Talk me into/out of building a Ford 9" steering axle

its crazy the difference for sure. e locker is only the rear correct?
E locker is only rear. Tremors have a LSD front but I doubt anyone is picking those up for builds

i don’t remember what year the e-locker started though
 
Or king pin 60’s. I lol for real when people post a KP 60 for sale for a thousand bucks. Or twelve hundred bucks. Talk about about being out of touch with reality.

I got two pairs of 11+ SD axles with the rears with E lockers for $800 a pair.

Which site are you searching chaplinfj60 i am only seeing a few on LKQ nationwide for $3-500 for the 05-10 year. 11+ is over a grand for front only.

my buddy just recently stumbled across an 06 in the junkyard that hadn’t been pulled yet, $194 without brakes. I am cheap so I want that price, but I don’t have time to walk the yards every weekend :shaking:

Boo to driver drop though, every T-case I have is passenger drop.

One of the appeals of my 9" hybrid idea was to invert the axle tubes and make me a pass. drop axle with more modern/easier to acquire outer parts.

Depends on what you're doing with it.

I'd pay 1200 for a KP that bolts in if I was building a square body.
 
i have all ready been searching the webs for retubing. turns out i have a couple friend that said easy day. big press and maximum effort. :)

hell this thread is what got me looking at these. i too was looking at building a cheap 9 inch for all your reasons. but then holly shit how can you not look at the SD and say maybe thats the way to go....

That’s actually a good deal. There’s over $3K in parts in that. Just the RCV’s the ARB gears and brakes are $3K.

What’s not a good deal. Is a bone stock GM 60 with 4.10’s open diff for $1200 when you are only going to use the housing knuckles spindles and drive hubs.
 
Could you still do that today? I know Chevy front 60’s have the most psychotic price tags anymore.
And I've been sitting on a NOS Chevy KP front D60 housing for like 12+ years thinking I'd build it. Now, I'm thinking fabbed only....or maybe an 05 SD60. Funny how things change.

And since AZ is Commifornia since the COVID emigration....our prices are ridiculous as well.
 
I was buying and selling a lot of them at some point.
When you buy more than 25 at a time you start to get good prices.

I'm a simple man, owning a junkyard is an odd dream of mine one day... then I can have 25 at a time :smokin:
