What's new

Tow Rig / DD / Plow Rig Tires

Anybody tried the bfg hd terrains yet? I keep seeing propaganda at the various places I frequent on my phone.

are you talking about these? I was looking at those too. I wonder how they would do with mostly highway but towing heavy. Need the rougher tread for the occasional off pavement/pasture duties

Those are the ones. I’m wondering the same things you are.

I have Goodyear Ultraterrains on it now. I think they are a Discount Tire exclusive tire. They have done pretty well but they are about done. Rotated them front to rear and the front are pretty well done. Down to the wear bars, still track well but the traction when it's wet and off pavement is suffering. Pulling my dump trailer loaded heavy really wore them down.

I have Duratracs on my Tacoma and have over 80k on them but they are pretty cupped even with regular rotation and are loud AF now. The rubber compound is pretty hard now and even my V6 Tacoma can break them loose at will on wet pavement.

I could see those holing up much better for that application than ko2s.

Similar application the cooper at3 xlt. Which I'm curious about, but still hesitant with my past cooper experience.

Iirc, Lincoln had a set? Anyone else?

I recently saw those too and am thinking I might give them a try on the K2500. I've run BFG ATs and MTs over the years, but the KO2s just haven't been giving me the lifespan on the K2500 that I got in the past.

I looked around for reviews, but there isn't that much out there yet. I did find this news release and the following quote spoke to me about the chipping I was experiencing: BFGoodrich launches HD-Terrain T/A® KT tire for the toughest jobs in extreme conditions

[edit] Hopefully, by the time I'm ready for a new set of tires some of the magazines will have done tire tests on them.

Was hauling compost last night and looking at the tires on my Dodge while the horse guy was loading my dump trailer. The Goodyear Ultra-terrains on it are getting pretty skinny on tread and I noticed a nail/screw in the pass front. it's not leaking so I am not gonna fuck with it.

Looks like about a $300 difference from going back to the GY vs these new BFG.

Anyone pulled the trigger on the BFGs yet?

These are new and going to give them a try. 55k warranty. Will be going on the Methods I've got coming in 35" flavor. Will continue to run my existing Maxxis for winter duty on the factory wheels.

Can't find any online reviews at all on these. I guess they are that new lol

BFGoodrich Tires is launching the BFGoodrich HD-Terrain T/A KT tire on April 1.

So I'm guessing there isn't a whole lot of real world experience with them in just under three months.

These showed up today. Ordered last night. They look nice. Should have them on in a few weeks.

Ordered the BFG KT from Discount Tire today. Appt to have them put on Thursday. $1711 OTD. ugh

Pleased with the current setup. Probably mostly size related compared to last couple sets.

37x12.5x17 Toyo AT 3 on the Ram 3500 Longbed - mild noise on the highway, rides really good with the sidewall when empty, aired up zero hop or skip crawling up to the Water Tanks at Sand Hollow with the trailer loaded, snowflake rated, but only had them a few weeks so not tested

Truck had 35x11.5x20 Nitto Recon Grapplers when I got it. Quieter than AT 3. Stiff on 20s. Mild hop on same road with lighter trailer (SxS vs buggy). Sat and dug in at KOH camp real quick in 2wd.

Last truck had 35x11.5x18 Toyo RTs (2500 CCSB rear coil spring). Crazy bad hop trying to get up the water tank rd with buggy, turned around and headed for state park parking that day.

And that road is supposed to get paved next month.:homer:

Sweet! I think discount tire knocked off 5% already since I used my discount tire CC. 0% for 12 months as well. Hopefully the discounts will stack.

First set of the new bfg KT that the tire shop had seen in person.

Curious for the review on those. I'm around 30k on my Grabber ATx now, and they ain't gonna make winter. Those look like they might get loud when they wear out - Kind of Nitto-ish...

275/70/18. Stock size.
I should have washed the truck before I took it in. Had some gravel dust inside the wheels and I don't think they got a good balance on them. Steering wheel vibes above 70. I'll wash it tonight then take it back after work to check them. There's a bit of road noise but not bad at all. The tread is a little more open than the Goodyear's I took off. But they aren't a full mud terrain either

Called America's tire just to see when those pathfinder at (rebranded Hankook at) went on. Apparently we have 84k miles on them

I wouldn't even say the majority of it was highway driving and am not even that good with rotations. So I'll say, if you want a cheap tire that lasts forever, those at it.

They're getting low, but at the rate they wear, hitting 90k miles should be easy.

I had Goodyear Ultraterrains on it before these and I checked mileage and they had 45k on them. Not terrible considering it's almost all towing miles.

Shudders in hydroplaning

If it was October, they'd be gone

I’m seriously contemplating spending over $2300 to put (5) Falcons on the alumaduty to replace duratracs… because they are already getting loud at 13k miles and handle like crap. :homer:

That milage makes me happy as I have ultraterrians on my 350 now that sees either towing or dirt roads when I need the long bed

Never heard anything good about them outside Canuckistan.

Falken at3s are great, but I hate that they're bfg money now.

Went back to Discount Tire to have them rebalanced. Kid said one was out 1/2oz and another was out 1.25 oz. Seemed to drive better on the way home but never got a chance to run it up to 70+ since I took two lane roads home.
I did turn in the bfg rebate that Pat posted so we'll see if they honor it. The discount I got online when I did the tires was 5% off for using my Discount Tire CC. That knocked $83 off plus the $110 from BFG will be nice.

I snagged a set of those in 20's for my F150 on black Friday last year. Only have about 10k on them but seem fine so far.

These ride really good and are quiet. Made in the USA too. 35x12.50x17E
