Tow Rig / DD / Plow Rig Tires

Yes, obscure hard to find tires all the way around

I wouldn't say 17.5s are hard to find as long as you are at a shop that does semi stuff. Lots of low bed and equipment trailers use 17.5s.

But ya, probably not going to have them at Americas tire.

But like you said, a 16" tire and wheel should work fine for a spare.

End of year update on my Falken Wildpeak AT3W's on the dually. 4 years, 51k miles on the set and I'm at 7/32 of tread depth. Noiser compared to new but not bad. New tread depth was 13/32, so I should get right around 70k on this set with good rotations. Hard to complain about that tire life on a heavily loaded dually. 30k of the 51k miles have been hooked to my enclosed gooseneck according to the trailer odometer.
My AT2s are at 75% tread after 20k miles on a light F150 that tows and occasionally burns the rears pretty hard. I am impressed

Ours has at3s with about 18k miles, no burnouts, but they honestly look new. They're great tires.

Good to hear they also work well on a heavy diesel, especially a dually, they like to eat tires.

Just put the 2nd set of goodyear ultraterrians on my truck. Only got about 35k out of them over 3 years. I think i could have gotten another 5-7k but I spend almost every weekend in the winter towing a trailer or with a snowmobile in the bed getting after snow. I was real happy with the performance in the snow and the un-maintained dirt roads the truck sees.

Happy with my 295/70r18 falken at4's so far, only about 1500 miles...Bar was set low with factory goodyear wranglers

It will be a toss up on going with the AT4s of the Toyo RT Trails this next go round. I'm glad there are options that have favorable reviews.

I am a fan of the military take off mtrs, 37x12.50 16.5. I can get em for $50 a piece if they need a patch , $100 if they have no punctures. Have 4 nices ones on the truck now , and 6 spares at home currently. They seem to be wearing pretty well, have 4000 miles on them so far and can just barely see outer tread cupping on the fronts and that's on a dodge front end.:homer:

Gearing is just right with 4.10s and a manual. Probably hard to find 16.5s for a metric 8 lug, but plenty of nice alloy wheels out there on marketplace for 8x6.5. Load range E weight rating is 4500 lb. Oldest date code I run is 09 , but no signs of dry rot they were stored inside. Most are 12-15 year. They are available on ebay for $190 shipped with 15-18 date codes.

It's crazy how much better/more AT options are available now than there were 10-15 years ago for 3/4 ton and up trucks. Sucks the prices are what they are, but good tires make such a big difference to me that it's worth it to just bit the bullet on good ones.

I know a few guys who would get better mileage with toyo mt's than any at on thier diesels.

Are the current Toyo Mts still using the hard rubber compound? Which is tougher , nitto or toyo MT? They are decently priced , $1760 for 4 37s and I always liked that tread design. If I decide to buy new tires those are probably what Id go with for the dodge. My k20 is getting a 12 valve eventually , have a set of 325/85 16 XMLs for it but those are getting hard to find.

Yesterday I checked the tire pressure and the rears were at 120 and fronts were high 60s. I changed them all to 85 and the noise is tolerable now... about 50% of what it was. I may try 100 all the way around and then 70 and see what it does.
if they're steel sidewalls like I'm pretty sure they all are, don't run them low on pressure, ever
if the sidewalls are flexing they are going to unzip

Our flatbed has some high rated 19.5s on it. Rims have a max pressure of 95 psi, so that's what we run in the tires. Sometimes while loaded the sidewalls flex, but we haven't had a blowout on them.

I got about 200 miles on bfg HD terrains. Fuckin love em.

Fuel mileage went from abysmal to atrocious. Still better than horrendous, so I got that goin for me. I'm at a constant 9500 lbs.
