What's new

The Snowmobile Thread

Yes, but they're stupid expensive.

It's actually cheaper to go buy a new Arctic cat blast 400 than anything. Then they get real suspension and a track that's capable of taking them off trail.

Get yourself an 800. They are all around better than a 600 on everything except fuel. There's lots of times you're not using all the throttle, but it's there if you're getting bogged down.

People with snowmobile money don't trade them for dirtbikes, because they already have new dirtbikes also. :flipoff2:

It's pretty much all over the mid-west to the west coast, you're going to pay $4-6k for a good usable one that's not too old. Expect $10k+ for something less than 5 years old. Add a few $ if it's been turbo'd.

On the upside, if you stick with a new pro or axys chassis Polaris you can get your money out in a few years. I paid $5k for a 14 pro 800 163 2 years ago and got offered $6k for it yesterday.
I have one for sale. Turbo with every aftermarket part you can put on it.

Pretty sure I'm gonna need one of these units. See if I can buy next spring or summer when guys want to trade em off for a dirtbike.

Do they make kid sized ones for tooldling around on snowed in roads? Still be 4-5' deep in the hills around here.
Yes they do from like 1987-1989 they made the snoscoot. Best kids/adults that act like kids small sled around. We have a blast with them.

We have one poor one that’s getting a 300 Polaris free air motor . That thing is gonna be off the hook fun.

I always wanted a snoscoot.

This thread reminded me to list my sled for sale. Not much riding around here anymore. Not much snow building up a base and the fields we rode are now developments.

I think between me and my brother we are up to like 5-6 scoots lol

Not enough snow to ride here and my snow checked 850 is still in shipping, I’ve had time to build another drag for the club and wrench on friends machines that are going out west. Might plan a quick trip up north for end of next weekend.

Not looking great up there either.

At least I’ve got my 18 xcr to ride and didn’t sell it prematurely like so many people did.
My son will be 12 end of the month, so he will be able to take the VT safety coarse and ride with us up there as well as down here.
Looks like I should just keep 4 sleds in the stable from here on out. Costs is a pain in the ass but it beats not having a machine to ride if one goes down.

For someone who knows less than zero about sleds what’s the nastiest, most evil violent 2 stroke sled around? I’m talking the Suzuki quadilla of snowmobiles. Asking for a friend.......

Polaris XCR 800 triple or Skidoo Mach Z triple were the king of the lake runners for 2 smokers, and I guess the Thundercat 1000.

Yamaha sidewinders are crazy fast 4 strokes and easily tuned to insane levels.

Just got a call from the dealership, new sled is in, come get it! I've got a pile of stuff in the shop to get on it and then head north Saturday night.
2022 XCR 850 136 1.6 all black
If it makes it thru the first 3 tanks of fuel it should be good to go, all the ones I've had go boom do it within that window.

I’ve got a stable full of Polaris now. Started on Cats, snowchecked 3 skidoos 03,05,07 800x and went through 5 motors. Went back to Cat then bought my wife a new Polaris, total game changer on her riding

2022 XCR 850
2018 XCR 800
2016 Pro-s 600
2016 Indy 550
1972 Panther 440

2019 sportsman 570
2017 Ranger 1k w/tracks
2008 Sportsman 800

I should probably try a Lynx this winter, but my current plan is to by the wife a VR1 650. Or by an Assault 146 850 and give her the new XCR.
I don’t know.

Get get some. I have huge piles from plowing and running out of room.

How far north are you?

I was in cda on sat and they have almost nothing compared to us. I'm only at 1750' and have about 3' but it's settled to maybe less.

That belt between us and sandpoint can get a lot also.

2018 Winder tuned up to 270 HP with a closed loop FI system, all stock exhaust (sleeper), you can get just past 300HP with premium fuel and race muff but I dont want tickets from the man.., not a 2 stroke.

My 13 yo daughter and I are headed up to northern Wisconsin in two weeks for a 4 day trip. She didn’t get her safety class done so she’ll be riding with me on my 2-up renegade most of the time while we are on the trails. I’m taking my CF7 along to let her rip on the lake while we are there too. A few weeks after that I’m going up there again with all my kids for a free for all.

Shipping would be a bitch.

What turbo setup and tuning?

There's the M1000 cats. Need to seriously strip and lightweight everything to get the weight down.

All the 850's seem to be about the same. Gotta get into the turbo stuff to get super nasty.

My buddy tried the big bore 1150 years ago. It needed 110 to not detonate and tossed the crank through the belly after a few hundred miles.

That blows my mind. Here's it's just a total free for all. I have never heard of anyone doing a safety course.
Then again I've never even seen any enforcement of anything in the mountains, on or off trail.

Factory.... I'd say the 05-07 mach z1000. As long as the motors stayed together.

I'll be buying a sled later this year for ice fishing next season. One up with electric start, reverse, reliable and able to pull an ice shanty will keep me happy. The few I've ridden were fun to blast across the lake with but honestly, I'm getting too old for that shit. I'm on the fence between a lower cost new sled like a skandic or buying used but only being able to ride a few months out of the year tells me cheaper is better.

We’re at the lake place. Been out banging ditches today. 8-11” of snow falling. The 4 stroke is made for groomed trails but it gets down on untouched ditches if you can deal with the extra weight. Next year the boy will get a 200cc sled for himself.
