What's new

The Snowmobile Thread

We’ll be headed for northern Wisconsin around 9am after we finish packing and loading the trailer. My youngest son decided to go too so it’ll be me, my 13yo daughter, and 20yo son. Plan is to get up early the next two days and ride till dark both days so we are off the trail before the party crowd heads out.

I can’t wait to put some miles on the new to me renegade enduro.

Did a few miles on my 20 year old sled today. This is a secondary trail in Phoenix, NY. I must be getting older, I can't thrash this vintage iron like I did as a kid. May look into something more modern next year.

It’s time to load up and head home. They definitely need some snow up here.

Thursday we rode for 6 hours and covered just over 100 miles. With food/gas stops we were actually riding for about 5 hours. That day we went north into Bayfield county and had decent riding. The trails all had about a 4” base or more and rode fairly smooth.

Friday we went South into Sawyer county and rode the trails we typically do when we come here. Those trails were terrible. We went about 15-20 miles and turned around and came back. The trails were worn almost bare in a lot of spots and it was hard to control the sleds. There was a lot of traffic on those trails too which was just making it worse. We only put on 50 miles yesterday and called it a day. Those shit trail conditions really wear you out. Plus my daughter was getting cold on the 2-up. It was a high of 7 yesterday.

My 13yo daughter rode my CF7 solo on the lake both mornings and Thursday afternoon, and put on about 40 miles. The little shit pinned it on the way back to the condo Thursday and passed me going about 80. I told her we won’t tell her mom about that….

We come back in two weeks. Hopefully they get more snow. Or at least don’t have warm enough days to melt what they do have on the north trails.

I think next year I’ll plan a full week trip to the UP. Drive up on a Saturday and drive home the following Saturday.

Snowing here, fucking Boston is going to get dumped on. Couple 45 degree days and rain middle of next week :mad3:

My 13yo daughter ripping across the lake. Shortly after that is when she passed me going about 80.

Got a spy shot of the plans of this years beater cross race. I have been getting pimped pretty hard if I’m signing up this year. I’m gonna have to con the boys into helping me make a duplicate course in the back yard to practice with the old exciter on.

What do you guys think of articcat.early 2000s zr600 2stroke twin? My buddy is looking at one. Price is good alot of new parts but he doesnt know a lot about them. He mentioned it to me on the phone cause Im mechanical and he figured Id know. :shaking: i dont know much about the different makes or models and without being there to look it over and run it Im hesitant to give him advice.

Are they known to be reliable or a ticking bomb without a lot of maintenance? Seems to have been well cared for and kept inside. New sliders and wheels and some ignition parts. Do they eat sliders, wheels, belt, or clutches? Guys his neighbor so I dont think he will screw him too bad. He said starts right up and seems to runs good. He just wants to run his kid around and do some light trail riding.

So what say the IBB and whats a decent price for a 20 year old sled.

I haven’t had one but from what I’ve heard they’re as reliable as any other early 2000 sled.
What year and how many miles?

Anything in the 2000-2003 year range in good shape is going for $1500-1800 right now around here.

I had one and it never gave me trouble. What's his location? I think it's a $1500-2000 sled around here.

We just had an ice storm so we have nothing for snow here.

If your new 850 has electric start you better check the coolant hose running to the water pump, early builds are rubbing thru on the starter bracket and hoses are backordered until summer.

When and where is this. I want to do it

Sign up is feb 9th at 12:00. Only allowing 160 sleds. It will fill up in a few hours. I had a blast last year. They have a bunch of classes. If you have Facebook they have a page for it.

It’s basically a run what you brought snocross racing. Last year a buddy won the b class with a pos mxz 440f. Fans are had to beat on the short course.

He was the third sled from the left, the mxz with the ratchet strap holding the hood on lol.

Race is March 6th in Wausau wi.

Thanks for the heads up. I went through the machine before I rode it. 12/21 build date.

I beat the bitch for a minute today. All rain and no snow made shit hard as fuck. Heading up north in 6 days for a break.

I still play by those rules lol.
I did uptil about 3 years ago. Then I stopped bouncing as much and started breaking more. Turning 45 sucked it was like a light switch. Everything just hurts the next day.

Lol I still have a lump on my pec from getting speared off my snowmobile ditch bombing at 30mph a year ago. That picture of me racing last year, I had a fucking life vest on under my coat because of that hit. If I would have gotten hit there in that race I would have cried like a little girl. :lmao:

2k if he wants an 2008 iq600. :flipoff2:
Ill let him know. Does it need anything? I talked to him a bit ago. I gues the price is closer to a grand. I dont think he wants to spend much hes got youngins and not a lot of time. Plus its just down the street from him. I think youre about 3 hours away.

Only thing wrong is I cracked the front plastic nose part when I got it stuck. But it's been well kept, and fuel injected so it starts every time. Been casually trying to sell it because I don't want to deal with facebookers or Craigslist folk.

Been one of those years, always having some type of issue while riding... Blown water pump in truck, blown rear shock, sleds stuck in creeks, blown clutch bushings, etc. etc. About ready to start packing the full tool kit on future rides. But, pretty good snow and riding conditions compared to last few seasons!

Honky Lips

You got about 30 mins to sign up

Over 50 entries in allready

I got called out and had to sign up. I’m not a quitter. Should be fun. Will have to build a track in the back yard this week to get some practice.

I'm offended at the old guy class is 35+ or I'd be interested.
Haha should be at least 40+. Lol. Then again last year the average age was like 24.

My buddy who’s older than me so early 40’s won the b class. He schooled them young bucks.
