What's new

The Snowmobile Thread

After a bunch of miles riding with my son on his Arctic Cat 200 I decided that he will definitely be too big for it by next season so I started shopping.

As everyone is aware the snowmobile market is crazy, that is if you can even get one.

My options were the new Ski-Doo Neo, or the Polaris Evo both 3/4 scale sleds. I wanted to get him on a more upright sled now, and I couldn't find a rev 380, or a freestyle, or anything similar in size but older.

Since the Ski-Doo sleds are injected, I thought I would lean that way. Talked to the dealer, and they told me they were able to order one for the year, and it was taken, next dealer, same deal.

So I found a 2019 Polaris Evo local to me, and picked it up for next year. It's definitely a good fit, and now he has a buddy sled for now. (I let his friend from school try it out)

I figure it's better to have, than order and hope at this point.

Here's a few pics.

Last week was the vintage oval races, took the '79 TX-C out for it's yearly run. Made some progress with clutching and more speed down the straights, driver needs some practice hitting the corners faster though... 2 days before the races it was 50 degrees and raining, last minute everything froze up, then had 40+ mph winds and snow squalls all day saturday.

Where were these races located?
I see your in PA somewhere.

Coudersport PA
No kidding, I'm from the Wellsville NY are (Scio) originally, but live closer to Buffalo now. I have a bunch of friends from the area that ride out of the Coudersport as well. I heard they are really putting some effort into a summer trail system in that area as well.

It’s on like donkey Kong. The Beater cross tomorrow!!!! 24 sleds in the leaf spring class so I’m shooting for 23 place :lmao:.

2 12 racer heats top 5 go to front row of feature rest go to lcq. Top 6 from the lcq to back row of feature.

I could post this in multiple threads, but I’ll just leave it here. Headed out to NH to pick up my new trailer, diesel fuel in town was 4.19. Saw it all the way up to 4.80 within 40 miles. Got back to town 7 hours later and fueled up, 4.75. Fuck Brandon. Average empty was 18.5, very happy with that. Towing was 14, I’ll take it. Not sure, but had a gut feeling this was a fatality judging by the amount of ambulances.

I've got a parts request.

Ski-doo Legend GT 600. Approx 2004. Need some new (tall) windscreens.
Ideally posted to Whistler.

I got burnt a few years ago. Tried to buy some off Ebay and they were so badly shaped they just wouldn't fit. Had to post them back to the USA (from New Zealand) to get a refund.

Kimpex High 17.25" Clear looks about right.

Anyone got leads for me? Cheapest price in Canada would be ideal, got someone headed to Whistler who can bring them home.

That is cheaper than I can get it from Kimpex and ship it the 6000km across the country, Squamch his a whole lot closer so he might be a bit more help.

Buy 6, as you just break them after you replace them... :flipoff2:

There's few things more fragile than a sled windshield. That's why I have none, just good gear.

I grew up in Ohio on a lake. We had ton of fun riding on the lake when it froze over each year and on the streets when they were snow covered.

Living in Texas now I miss winter activities, but not enough to move up north. I have debated buying a few sleds and traveling every year but might just try to find a place to rent them.

West Yellowstone. Lots of rental places between there and Bozeman. Can ride trails or get off trail and boondock it.

Cooke City is cool if you like boondocking. There's barely any groomed trail and you won't be going faster than 30ish unless you're on the highway.

New Mexico has some riding, but I haven't ever found a place to rent there. Colorado has tons of places but rentals are insane.

Be aware that trail sleds don't climb chutes and mountain sleds can throw paddles if they're run too fast on the trail. Choose appropriately.

the winters here are not what you remember.

if we had consistent snow I would own a $300 marketplace snowmobile to kill myself on.
I'd bet we only had snow on the ground for a total of 20 days this winter, and even the shallow city pond doesn't freeze over these days.
winter sucks here now. more 40 degree and raining than proper feet of snow.

Thanks. I wonder if it is still snowy enough up there this time of year.

Used to mountain ride a few years back (Polaris RMK 900) but now I leave that to you young bucks. Haven't rode at all for a few years but this year the wife and I decided to get a trail sled so that we can extend our outdoor recreation season. got a 2001 AC Bearcat 550 Widetrack for $1800 CAD. nice 2up seat, heated bars, etc, etc.
looking forward to getting out again this winter when the snow gets too deep for the jeep
Turns out the Bearcat was not as much fun as we figured it would be. It will go anywhere we have wanted to but off a groomed trail it is a handful, esp with 2 pple on it, and turned out to be more work than I want to do. Looks like age has taken its toll on me and the sled is getting sold.

I did pick up a 2002 Argo 8wheel Conquest with tracks and that rocks. Goes anywhere we want it to and the vehicle does all the work of staying upright and turning:smokin:. Still fits on the flatdeck, 4 stroke motor, full convertible canopy and heater. Def slower than a sled but usable year round. Much better for us older folks

I haven’t done much riding here in Michigan just around the house with the kid but I did get to make it up to anchorage this year missed last year due to Covid BS. I only got her stuck a few times so not so bad for not riding it for a few years. We also took out my friend’s mudd ox on a booze cruise one night it’s definitely a work horse. Here’s a few pics of my trip we didn’t stop much so only have a few it was good trip all around.

Probably going to list 2 for sale soon. 2011 and 2012 RMK Pro 800. Both are under 1400 miles and basically stock. Made the mistake of upgrading my wife to an Axys chassis and now I want one too. :flipoff2: The 2 for sale are the sleds we started on last year.

Just buy yourself the matrix. :flipoff2:

I'd dump the 11&12 if they haven't had new pistons. Put in pistons for a 15 if they need it. The piston skirts slowly collapse and eventually they drop a skirt in the bottom end. Also make sure they're using oil at 35-40:1. There's guys that were roasting motors only to find the factory had them at 80:1

The newer ones with electric oil pumps use a lot more oil since it's not linear. They will inject just enough at cruise to pass emissions, then run 25:1 at wide open :smokin:

That was the plan. If both don't sell, I'll rock one of the pro-ride's for another year then go for a matrix.

Oil screws have been "adjusted", although they weren't far off.

I had the chance to ride a 155 Pro slash this year and would buy that sled but too many hobbies, too little $$$

I used to ride a 2016 KTM XCF 450 with a 2016 Timbersled. It has sat the last 2 winters and makes me pretty bummed. No riding in 20/21 due to Covid and this past winter I never made time. Covid really messed up my buddies and I getting together, not my choice. Pics from the Big Bay area in Michigan.

Do any of you ride in the Cable/Hayward area of Wisconsin or in the UP? Any interest in having an Irate ride next year?

I get up to the UP a few times, made it almsot all the way to the west end this year. I would be up for it.

I'd be down for a ride I have not done a U.P. ride in a few years we were going to go to the Long Riders relic ride at the Jack Pine lodge but it didn't pan out the cabin that was rented in the past did not get reserved for the next year are ring leader moved out of state and the circus kinda fell apart.. The last time we went we rode new sleds during the week and did the vintage ride on saturday it's a good area we found some untouched fire roads between the trails near thunder lake rd. The vintage ride leaves from the jack pine and goes to boot lake or big spring it's in the area of Steuben here's a trail map link https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/public...ailMaps/countymaps/snowmobile_schoolcraft.pdf
