What's new

The Snowmobile Thread

Had to take the primers off the 89 Arctic cat and 97 Ski Doo and prime them before they would prime the motors and start. Then they worked great. I need to find a t fitting or something so I can do it without taking the primer off to get it to take fuel. But it shouldn't be an issue until they sit for the summer next year. Bought both primers last year and they had no issues all winter. Now I'm ready for more snow. Time to pull out the King Cat 900 with a bad driveshaft bearing and get it going. It's EFI with Twin Pipes and starts right up so I'm motivated to get it rideable too.

Textron the new owners of artic cat basically stopped supporting any of the older machines. My neighbor who repairs snowmobiles and 4 wheelers says stay away from them. He can’t get parts for anything other than current model machines.

Is yours a bitch to pull? Have you tried the 800 recoil?

Mine is a bitch to pull if you dont know the proper method. It keeps people from taking it on the mountain

What mods have you done to yours? I moved my steering post forward, taller seat, 2 wheel kit. Motor is stock. I just wish it had reverse.

Haven't ridden it yet, got it broken but I have a parts sleds with it that should have the bearing I need

And the 1 time I started it it seemed easy enough

Had to get out the '72 Sno Jet for Christmas snow. 35 hp feels so much faster with 2" of suspension and a narrow stance, and you get to smell like gas/oil for the rest of the day. :grinpimp:

My daughter wanted to go for a quick ride when I got done plowing snow this morning, and before I left for work. Since the gravel roads hadn't been plowed yet, we went for a rip around the neighborhood on the roads. I just put that 2-up seat on so she can go trail riding with me and she wanted to try it out.

Been riding the ol' 89 440 some at work today. The road is just like an ice rink so perfect for straight line topspeed checks and powerslides and there is almost enough snow in the fields to not worry about rocks.:grinpimp:

Best joke of the day!

What, sissy bars on snowmobiles? Yeah that's pretty neat, seems like a crash hazard though but for the XTREME RIDERS, no hazard is too great in order to meet that next patch of pow-pow and gleam the cube.

Was able to ride in the UP of MI the week before last. Stayed in Marquette, did loops down to the WI border, Pine Stump, and Houghton. Some areas were a bit thin on snow, and apparently a few groomers were broke down in places, but decent riding for the most part. 400 miles is the new one day goal, could have almost done it, if it wasn't for 100+ miles of moguls on the long days.

Not ready yet. Planning to get together with some friends on the 19th for beers, food, and getting them ready. Still haven't seen real snow in NM yet though.

Waiting on my Snowcheck 2022 Polaris 850 XCR to be shipped, kept my 2018 800 SB XCR in case the snowcheck doesn't show up in time. Just ordered a new 7.5x20' + 54" Proline trailer Monday:smokin:. 22 week lead time:mad3: it is usually 3-6 weeks. Been trail clearing every Sunday since mid September.

Gotta replace a few idlers and the carbides on my old iron (2003). Hope we get snow this year. Heard it may be mild though. I don't do more than a few hundred miles a year so I can't justify new sled prices.

Been thinking about dragging my Summit 700 machines up front and giving them a tune up before the snow flies. I think one was only hitting on one cylinder last spring. Maybe that'll be this afternoon's adventure...

I’m up to 3 1980 440 exciters and 2 340 enticers. My garage looks like a junkyard. A employee dropped off a xtra 12 to try and stuff into a exciter. Should be fun this winter. We are lucky to have the trails open by the beginning of January in these parts.

I can't wait to get back to Norway/Sweden. Covid has killed my trips there for nearly three years.

Added token drunk elgbab eating pic in Røros.

My cousin and I always do a big trip every year. This is our planned route for Feb. 2022 in Ontario, Canada. Unload sleds in Saute Saint Marie, Canadian side. First night is at location A, 2nd night is location B, etc. 8 days - 1500 + miles on sleds.

Used to mountain ride a few years back (Polaris RMK 900) but now I leave that to you young bucks. Haven't rode at all for a few years but this year the wife and I decided to get a trail sled so that we can extend our outdoor recreation season. got a 2001 AC Bearcat 550 Widetrack for $1800 CAD. nice 2up seat, heated bars, etc, etc.
looking forward to getting out again this winter when the snow gets too deep for the jeep

You probably won't see it until late Dec early Jan, the '22 850's have a bearing issue and were held back for engine swaps.

Only the RMKs, the other ones are starting to show up. Got an email from Polaris saying shipped by 12/15.
