Which sucks because "liberal" was a pretty apt descriptor for people who supported individuals rights, secularism, economic and political freedom, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, etc.
Back in the day maybe. The current "liberals" don't support much of any of that stuff other than to use it for campaign slogans.

Right, the term got co-oped. Just like antifa somehow managed to make the term anti-fascist bad and Hawaiian shirts are suddenly for boogaloo bois instead of people trying to get drunk on a tuesday. Fuck em all. I'm a liberal and they're not.

I dunno. With some conservatives I know, "Liberal" almost comes out as a slur/swear word, so I'm guessing that one can't be used on nice/normal people anymore.. Which sucks because "liberal" was a pretty apt descriptor for people who supported individuals rights, secularism, economic and political freedom, freedom of the press, freedom of religion, etc.
I think liberal got co-opted in the late 90s. Mostly because they couldn’t get buy in with socialist or Marxist labeling.
It has gone completely clown world in the last few years though.

Same could be said of conservative to some extent. I used to think it meant constitutionalist. Now I’m not so sure.

Yeah, but if someone isn't into wheeling, then how do they even find the place?
Google searches I assume, if you want to modify something chances are some one here has done it. Possibly something in the off subject sections. Then they poke around and like what they see. The wealth of knowledge on this site is crazy when you think of it. It’s been my go to source to search since at a minimum 2007.

Democrats adopted the liberal descriptor in the 1920's to hide their socialist/communist roots that were getting pilloried by the Repubs at the time. They were stealing the term out of the libertarian camp in hopes to appear more in line with American origins. In the 90's, liberal had become to suggest bad things, so Progressive was adopted to appear forward thinking, and suggesting the alternative (republicans) were the party of old concepts and somehow "regressive", which is quite the opposite of what the Republicans have been through most of history. Republican's of the last 4 decades are probably closer to regressive than what the party was founded to be. All things change with time.

Those liberals also hated big government. They hated the man and didn’t want to be told what to do. They were often counter culture. Some of them served in Vietnam and would never trust the government ever again. They preached about reading and thinking outside of the system. Art played a larger role in getting their message out there. I can get down with these liberals. These liberals are no longer the definition of liberals now unfortunately.

the fact that socialism is acceptable and even used "socialist democrat" is really disappointing.
Seriously. It was a bad word for so long. I think as time goes on, that gets lost with younger generations. Kinda like this but on a larger and far more important scale:

If someone doesn't have a build thread, or post anything in tech, then why the heck are they here anyway?
and evernoob had a way way way low user number on the old board
but didn't post anything at all for the first like 8 years

welcome to the world of political language

everything is chosen for contemporary emotional associations rather than actual real world results/actions

Once those feelings turn sour, then it is on to the next buzz word.

This. Liberal or conservative, I want to discuss specific issues, not stupid labels assigned by the media.

I found it looking for updates on somebody's overland type build that I first found elsewhere (I think it was the guy who glued together a camper from foam/steel panels), then stuck around for other builds.
The most off-roading I do is running a tractor or the RTV around the farm baling hay, moving wood, etc.

I’ve gotten the impression more lately that you also are a farmer type, I always assumed you were more of a city adjacent person with intelligence they did a little bit too much research. Wait now that I think of it did we lose 87manche

As for the question about tech, I have not posted in tech for like seven years even though I still get on the trail and build shit for people. Life is funny and just changes while some things stay the same, I just moved over a couple forums

Isn’t he running his own site up where the moose and syrup run free?

that's dirty commanche aka scott cee aka 2drx4 aka canada aka the guy that posted a couple posts before you did

"Hobby farmer" would fit better than full-time farmer, we run 6-9 cows, we grow/bale our own hay and I fix most things that break because finding someone to work on equipment as old as what we use is difficult and waiting for someone to show up would get the hay rained on...

Don't call me a suburbanite keyboard warrior :lmao:
I grew up in the middle of nowhere, went to school for IT, but have done a little of everything from HVAC and plumbing to industrial refrigeration to electrical to framing, a very little tile (ironically framing and tile were when working for a electrician), picking rocks and mucking out stalls.
We are at least half an hour from any city of decent size, used to live in suburbia as a teenager, too many people on top of each other and not enough elbow room (great places to roll through on trash day though, all kinds of stuff that is slightly broken and/or they got tired of).
My wife would tell you that I overthink/over-research stuff (I prefer to learn from watching someone else do it wrong), but my projects generally (90% of the time?) work the first time, if not, by the 2nd or 3rd time it works as expected. :grinpimp:
