Matt's Off Road Recovery.

Jokes are usually offensive to someone, as is genuine derision. If you're truly secure in your beliefs, you should be able to shake it off as "ignorance" on the part of others. If you can't get over it, that insecurity may be pointing to a muted bullshit meter going off in the back of your head.
Great episode and all i know about the religon.

I'm not familiar with those references. Not sure if or how to respond

Interesting that people are excluded from attending baptisms. The only things I'm aware of that are exclusionary are the actual temple ordinances. Baptisms are usually performed in a church building called a Stake Center but can be performed in a body of water.

No idea on the kid thing. I have three boys and one girl. Last kid is a girl. First kid was a "surprise " as a result of a two hour "relationship ". That young lady still doesn't care for me to this day. I got married a few years later and my wife and I have three kids, boy, boy and girl.

Personally, the only thing holding me to SLC is my aging parents are nearby

We are derailing the Matt's off road recovery thread,

Don't we have an ask a Mormon thread somewhere???

baptisms non members are not allowed to, as a family I think that's probably the biggest issue ,
Confused on this one, non members are allowed to anything outside of the Temple, non-members go to baptisms all the time and you can even stream them on Facebook.

Exactly.

It depends on where you are, here in the east most of the buildings have a baptismal font in them because they're so far apart (usually at least 20 minutes apart), if you are in Utah or someplace else where the buildings are closer together it is common for only the Stake Center (which is a larger regional meeting house where 6 to 12 congregations will come together for conferences and other larger meetings a couple times a year) to have a baptismal font in it.

I never had much of an opinion either way untill I was let go without explanation from a job I held for 8 years. I was the first. Soon after all my former department co workers were also let go without just cause. All replaced with lds members by the new dept. boss. He and the shop foreman ( a bishop) were directly responsible for the changes.

I worked very hard for that place. Never a bad review or write up. Something like that can change your opinion forever. Do I think all members would do such a thing?? Of course not. Bad apples everywhere. But because of this I dont really care for the networking tactics. If your not in your an outsider and will be treated as such by some.

For an extreme example, try taking a drive thru Colorado city sometime. You might find out how unwelcome you are.

All this being said I don't think Matt or Paul or robbie or the bleepin dudes are bad people by any means. Just seems like one big club. One video leads you to another member to another member. All boosting eachothers yt stats with a nice 10% off the top for the big guy.

Exactly. The church backs certain ones and it's obvious. See, whomever makes the $$$$$ sends $$$$$ to the backers, in this case the church. Not saying right or wrong, just saying it is. It's only obvious to those who have lived it.

Wasn't going to touch on that, but I should say only jobs my brother has had has been a connection through the church,. and he's almost 50 now.

That's pretty f'd up. I'm sure it happens (it obviously happened to you and likely many other folks?). Personally, I want a good worker, least amount of drama possible and to leave the work at work when I'm not there. What you do on your own time or in your bedroom is absolutely NONE of my business if you're within legality. (Even then...)

I'd assume you are better off not working for losers like that? At least I hope things worked out the best way possible for you

Colorado City folks are manipulating the religion for the men's gain. They are not part of the "church" just use it to oppress. From what I can tell, they believe 1850 type women's and children's rights are the way to go.

Is Lizzy going to be a sister wife for Matt?

Not making fun of it just jealous.

How many wives can you have?

If you are a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, just one. People still get divorced and such just like the rest of the American population. (99% of the "Mormon" faith) Off shoots of the religion, I know very little about. From what I have seen, only the "most devout" can have ?????

Poligs aren't mormons.

I worked security patrol with a nonpracticing morman, one night we met up with some guys he knew, they were all wondering why they hadn't seen him in a while.

You do realize they used or maybe still do crash cars asa sport against each other.
There are a bunch of farm channels that are the same way watch one and it leads you to another...
Boat builder channels are the same

I learn a lot about my religion from threads like this. I supposedly have horns and a tail per someone I met at Jeep Safari a few years ago. I'm curious if Matt gets all these types of questions when doing service calls? Most Mormons I know are pretty open about almost everything but the temple ordinances.

In Iraq a mostly Mormon unit rolled in and every single unit member who was a member of the church left with an Army Commendation medal. Everyone who was not a member of the church got jack shit for the exact same deployment. They also refused to stop proselytize because "they work for a high power". The fuck you do. I'm a Christian and Knight Templar, I fully believe in God the almighty, but when you are wearing Uncle Sam's uniform you sure as shit are not working for a higher power. You're out of order and can get fucked.

Joe Smith was an Entered Apprentice Mason who stole the ritual and adapted it to his cult. He is a thief who broke his oath.

I also find it irritating and ironic that a non Mormon can't enter a Temple because we will desecrate it. Get fucked again. I can walk anyone I want into my church and show them the whole thing. I find their purity tests as ignorant as the Baptists. If someone wants to go into a building to pray then they should be allowed to.

Oh yeah better off for sure. Coming home that day telling my wife was the worst part. The two stooges didn't even show up to my unemployment hearing because they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on. Years later the bishop was quoted saying "yeah we screwed up letting him go" the new jack clown shoe that started it all ended up quitting after he gutted/ruined two departments.
from what I've gathered the shop has never been less efficient than it is today

I'm not talking about the "videos we think you'll like" section. More reffering to the constant collaboration with the same channels.

Either way I don't really care that much. Gonna keep watching because I like Ed's suzuki. Just posted an observation that jacked the whole thread. This happens on chit chat all the time, not sure why some are surprised. Remember when the bronco raptor thread turned into 3 pages of hating on litebrite?? Same thing. 🤣

That was ridiculous, stupid, illegal, unscriptural (that little itsy bitsy "Love thy neighbor as thyself" thing :shaking:) and should have gotten them in hot water from the Stake (the next level up from a Bishop, kind of like a Diocese).

Sadly, there is "Scripture" and "Church Doctrine" (which are written down and verifiable)
Then there is "Church Culture" and/or "Utah Culture" which are all often based in doctrine, and/or scripture but go beyond what is actually required (much like the Pharisees in the time of the New Testament) and are generally unwritten.

Then there is "splinter culture" from groups that have split off but retained parts of the scriptures, doctrine and culture but take it way further and is not condoned, permitted, etc in the actual Church, but they are close enough that at first glance they can appear to be the same.

As an example, the Word of Wisdom (Scripture) says "And again, hot drinks are not for the body or belly." (Doctrine and Covenants 89:9).
Church Doctrine says that this means no coffee or tea.
Utah Culture (and to a lesser extent Church Culture, depending on how much influence Utah Culture had in that area) took that to mean that because both coffee and tea are forbidden and both contain caffeine, caffeine must be bad, so anything containing caffeine (including soda) was forbidden until that was specifically repudiated in a General Conference a few years back.

I'm not talking about the "videos we think you'll like" section. More reffering to the constant collaboration with the same channels.

If they were all friends or acquaintances before it makes sense collaborate like that.

Either way I don't really care that much. Gonna keep watching because I like Ed's suzuki.
I find them entertaining, so I watch from time to time when I am bored or am curious to see what they are up to (such as updates on the new wrecker). I don't subscribe and don't pay much attention beyond occasionally catching up.

Isn't that how threads are supposed to work? :grinpimp:

So anyway, not so sorry to interrupt the Mormon derail, that new tow rig is looking better imo. I was curious what they were going to do with that giant ass front overhang, now I know. He’s got 54’s on it now and he said the actual tires will be bigger than that?

I was wondering if he was planning on setting up a set of gin poles to lift from the front

Small town Idaho and Utah is majority Mormon since it was settled by Mormon's. So it is by default "a great big club". It is not necessarily nefarious, but it can be in practice. If you tell me a town in Idaho, Arizona or Utah and give me a last name-- I will know a great deal about who your family is from Mormon history, and other people I have met with the same surname from the same places. It doesn't mean you are a practicing Mormon, but it is a factor in determining the likelihood.

Is there Mormon favoritism in these areas? Yes.

Are outsiders looked down on? Frequently.

Is it clanish? Often.

Is it as bad as it was years go? No.

Is it more clannish than other small town places in the USA? No, probably less clannish than small towns in the Eastern and Southern US. Probably a tad more clannish than the rest of the Western USA. It is just a different competing in-group that has geographic dominance in this locale. The strongest area of dominance is Northern Utah and Southern Idaho and this area is frequently referred to as the "Jello Belt". Frequently this term is used in a derogatory fashion by Mormon's who don't live in the Jello Belt and think the Mormons that do are just a bit weird, clannish, and over the top. The most clannish and weird Mormon place in the Jello Belt is probably Provo Utah.

Matt is more in Southern Utah, which is pretty laid back and tends to take the Jello culture a bit less seriously, being more red-neckish: rancher and hunting folk.

Generally speaking the farther you go from the Jello Belt area, the less clannish Mormon's are since they are either not the dominant culture or have developed their own different sub-cultures that were not as controlled by the influence of church leadership, which was centered in Salt Lake City. Note that travel used to take a long time pre-automobile.

It's interesting that all of these towing channels make the towing industry look clean and honest. Tow companies are in reality tend to be the scum of the automotive world.
The ones that ferry shit around for body shops and local construction outfits and whatnot are generally pretty upstanding.

The ones that make all their money doing police tows are total scum and deserve to get shot in the same hole they just dug.
