What's new

I want something unique.

I'm kinda a chevy guy that also bought toyota's :flipoff2:. I like toyota drivetrains up to about 35s then start swapping chevy parts in, hence the 350 in the name lol.

Have a couple Warn winches sitting around so decided to fit my XD9000i behind the S10 grill today.

Worked out ok. The factory tin bumper will be tossed, I just half ass trimmed it to fit until the steel yards open up again.

I had a bumper/winch plate off what I am assuming was a square body S10 or a Bronco II.

The winch plate fit exactly between the frame rails after trimming off the front tin bumper frame horns a little.

I need a new grill bad, so practice trimming this one was no stress. I will only have to trim a little off the bottom, backside of the new grill. :smokin:

Had some luck today at the junkyard.:smokin:

Found a just placed 2000ish S10 in the yard, so grabbed the bumper, grill, lights, and core support. Figured I would update the S10s grill.

Also found a bench seat in another S10 since mine is pretty tore up.

Spent the afternoon fitting/trimming a new bumper, and swapping core supports. A monsoon halted that progress, so will start again on it next week.

My old bumpers lower valance was too cracked to use, so it looked funky. The new bumper setup is turning out much better, and I took more time to fit it cleaner. I kept the lower valance on. It also doest have the plastic end caps and wraps all the way around the front end which is nice. My plastic end caps were barely hanging on.

Nice score! I like your current front end just fine but that newer style one is bit cleaner style for sure. Good job on winch install too, fairhead might stick out right in plate location.

When it rains, it pours.

Youngest son had an emergency apentectomy (sp?) At 12:30a.

Had an hour or so this afternoon to dink around with it while checking on the animals.

Nothing is snapped in/bolted down. I got the major trimming done. Need to sand edges, and may rework the front license plate opening a little.

Danm, hoping for a quick recovery.

I like that style front end, clip? better.

Thanks! Hes made big improvement today. Too be young again and heal quick. (hes 7)

I didnt hate the old style, but prefer the new style. It looks great on Walker Evans old rig.

Looks good on there and looks like clean job on the trimming.

Well wishes for the little guy.

Next thought is driveline.

So far, imediate plans is to keep the 4.3 and NV3500 or Getrag (unsure which it has yet)

Im leaning towards a HP30/8.8 right now.

That is a setup I have thought of using in my 1st gen taco since they are almost exact same width as each other and also the stock axles. I just hate to see 5 lug hub on my 4x4 toyota :lmao: though it still may happen. I have a non cad XJ HP30 sitting in the bed right now and had planned to swap it to 6 lug using ram D44 knuckles and chevy unit bearings....dunno though its a good bit of money to just get the right lug pattern. For you though it would be staying 5 lug just slightly different pattern, 8.8 would match the front pattern and is also spring under like your current setup correct?

I believe the 8.8 would be spring under in an Explorer (donor vehicle)
Currently my S10 is spring under as well.

Best of luck to your son.

Winch looks good in that spot.

I used truck lite(not led) headlight. Makes it look much better for square headlight in case you go back on it. Better visibility at night too

$44 for the front axle (lists for $250 plus core)

Someone it the wrong button in the register 😆

Wow that's a nice axle shaft you got there, looks to have even came with an entire housing for free :lmao:
The HP30 and 8.8 should be a great combo as long as tire size and right foot are kept in check. Maybe throw a cheapo truss on front while its out and easy to get to.

I figure chromos, c trusses and 33-35" tires will keep it fairly happy.

The truck weighs 3800lbs now, so comparable to a TJ. Theres 1000s of Dana 30s cruizin the trails just fine.

I would buy one of the "you weld it" long arm kits for a xj or tj and then just modify brackets to work for your truck. Tons of options out there for coil buckets to fit the stock jeep coils.
