Ford Bronco Release date set

Traffic is way more relaxing in a low gear not touching any pedals, then doing throttle-brake-throttle-brake-throttle-brake-repeat like everybody else in front of you. This applies to any transmission type.

This. With the granny low it should be better in traffic than anything made in the last 30yr.

Bull shit, a 96 4runner is rated for 5k. 3500 lbs is nothing for a near full size modern suv.

It does match the JL, but shit even a Ford explorer, which is a crossover car frame thing, is rated for 5600.

You're '96 is rated for 5k because there was no standardized way of rating and OEMs just tossed out numbers they were comfortable with.

My fucking Aerostar is rated for 4900.

I'm sure a new Brcono will haul 5k way more gracefully than your 4runner or my Aerostar.

That's scary.

My friends parents had an aerostar. 3 11 year olds in the way back had that thing all over the road just rocking side to side in the seat. Parents not happy with that happening doing 65 on 93 in NH

Are that many people wanting the manual transmission?
All I think is if I spend 50k on a new car, I'm going to have to daily drive it and sit in traffic with it. I hate sitting in traffic with a manual.
I'm never owned any thing more than a 4 speed automatic, so a 10 speed seems really nice.

Not all of us sit in traffic on a daily basis.

This bronco is really turning out to be another city dweller pavement queen :flipoff2:

Due to the high number of Bronco 2 and 4-door reservations, deliveries may extend into the 2022 calendar year.

Just noticed this on the Reservations site. Don't think it was there last week when I was ready to reserve one and didn't.

Hell, if it's going to be 2022 before I can get one I don't see a reason not to wait for some real world feedback and some of the first-year problems to shake out.

Your traffic is just a slow and steady pace? It's very stop and go here, I drive in my TJ and it sucks.

Think they actually did the trail or just backed it up there for a picture op? If it made it through looks pretty legit! Anyone that's done that trail, how difficult is it really?

I'll be impressed if it made it up Cleveland rock :flipoff2:

BSing aside, it is fairly impressive if they did Holy Cross bone stock and didn't have issues or take on damage.

I want the 2 door one. I have to sell a couple vehicles to get there but I see it as very likely that I'll special order one sometime next year. I'm sick of having to fix something every time I go out with the old Ford....love the truck but hate the constant wrenching. Something turnkey and new that's not a Jeep is appealing.

all 5 of my vehicles are manual transmission. I wouldn't want to drive around in an auto :flipoff2:

10 speed, man that thing is going to be shifting every 3 seconds.

And I've been really close to ordering a new jt and throwing all the cool guy parts at it... but then I would be a jeep guy. I think one of these will make a perfect family vehicle/ mild wheeler/ camping rig. I'm a little disappointed in the 3500lb tow rating but I think I'm going to completely disregard that and make my own decisions on what it can tow.

So you went from the 290" wb JT to the 100" 2 door bronco?

If you get a new bronco it better get a 14" lift and get it 49s asap. Gotta live up to the name :flipoff2:

In all seriousness, it would be fun to have the ability to tow one of your samurais to the trail head incase you feel like getting dumb. I'm sure it would tow either fairly easily on a lightweight trailer.

I have both. I love my old school manual rigs (I'd really love a flatty one day) but the wife's F150 sure is nice, it's *only* a 6 spd auto, but it shifts seemless and never is hunting for the right gear. I'd imagine the 10 spd is just that much better.

That said, I'd like to check out the 7spd when they hit the dealer lots. Granny low with out having a wiiiiiide ratio 4spd is pretty awesome.

I've mentioned it a few times in other threads, but my friend's newer Ram has I think an 8 speed in it? Man, it shifts all the damn time unless you are on a flat road and not accelerating. Slightest incline, and it starts shifting. Go to pass someone? it'll shift like 3 times. He doesn't notice it, but it bugs the shit out of me.

I had one as a rental for work, i wasn't a fan. Can't get over the fucking knob gear selector either.

The wife truck is a 2.7 and the low end is impressive. It will lug up 6% grades in 6th easily. With a trailer it will drop to 5th or 4th without even making a fuss and still maintain speed. I'm sure it has the tall highway gears too.

I'd bet that bronco will haul ass with the 2.7. Especially with a tune, we know the 2.7 is capable of more. The 2015 F150 version makes 350/375.

That was my point.

How could an explorer possibly be a better tow rig than the 4 door bronco?

I wouldn't think about towing more than ~3k, and even then I'd be hesitant.

It has fancy off-road suspension that the explorer and 4runner don't have. The explorer is just a crappy truck, a 4runner is pretty primitive and is optimized for being an on-road vehicle. Bronco has:

Front suspensionFront: Independent H.O.S.S. (High-Performance, Off-Road, Stability, Suspension) System with twin alloy A-arms and coil-over springs for optimum off-road stability and control with available H.O.S.S System with Bilstein® Position Sensitive Dampers.
Rear suspensionRear: Solid five-link rear axle H.O.S.S. (High-Performance, Off-Road, Stability, Suspension) System with coil-over springs for optimum off-road capability and durability with available H.O.S.S System with Bilstein Position Sensitive Dampers.

So the travel, damping, spring rates are not optimized for towing.

I'd buy the 3,500 lb limit.

Your point is fair

Well in regards to the 96 4runner, it's got soft ass rear coils, and kinda shitty brakes. Not exactly built for towing either. It was also still a "compact" suv back then. About a 4000 lb curb weight.

I was referring to the new exploder. Ifs/irs basically a tall awd car built for a good ride. At least the bronco has some of the real truck parts like a frame, live axle, ect.

I'm sure it has more to do with liability and all that. I'm sure they just wanted to match the JL unlimited.

Pretty sure I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen a jk or jl pulling a trailer. I'm sure it's not very high on the priority list.

4runner is (in)famous for having collapsing rear springs, they must have a cahoots with Firestone. But it's still a pretty conventional truck setup. Stock 4runners aren't particularly off-road worthy in terms of hardware, they just have a great platform and fancy off-road electronics.

I haven't closely examined the latest generations of Jeep but I remember them being very conventional too, except for the Rubicon which again has a pretty questionable suspension setup for towing In My never-towed-with-a-jeep Opinion.

I guess we won't know until someone gets up next to a Bronco and starts leaning on it and jumping up and down on the trailer hitch...

But the Bronco looks properly optimized for off-road, and if Ranger and Raptor are to judge by, I'd guess the Engineers and Lawyers remembered the old Exploder/Firestone issue, and the fact it's not specifically a tow vehicle.

Made to tow ATVs, jetskis and sxss.

I love my 6spd in my F150. I now plan on putting one in my early Bronco behind a 347.

Interesting

302 based I'm assuming? I haven't payed much attention to bellhousing patterns on the newer Fords. Is it the same?

I'm building a jeep for my FIL, I pushed him to get a 6l80e over the 4l80e. It's got a 4:1 1st vs 2.48. Basically the auto equivalent of a granny low. The jeep already had a 5:1 atlas so the idea was to make high range more usable between obstacles. Plus double od for the highway. I think the Ford 6 spd has similar gearing.

I'm really interested in the ecoboost for a crawler. Donor trucks are getting older and cheaper. From what I've read theyre still pretty light, even with twin turbos. Plus the power delivery is sweet.

Yes, 302 based. It requires an adapter kit. There are a few on the market already. Also will need an adapter for the transfer case and a stand alone transmission controller.

The tranny itself is cheap in the junkyards and in stock form will take some abuse. I got the 6.2L in my truck and am not nice on it. Even towing hard the tranny perfoms well and never had any high temps.

116" wheelbase 4dr is what I'm going for. And yes I'm to to concerned about it towing my sami

Looks better than the last rendering. Magazine article claims 2025 MY.
