What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

.5" of play on the chain on right side.

.25" of play on the left side.

I tried using a propane torch on a bottle of MAPP and it didn’t work. I’m a dummy and don’t know why, but I’m telling you so that you don’t try to save a buck and just buy a MAPP refill bottle.

It has been working for me for 15 years. Cheapo propane torch from autozone. I've always been concerned something will happen using the MAPP instead of propane because of the higher heat, but no boom yet.

My torch head was an old one I found in my dad’s tools, probably from the 80’s. It simply would not flow or flow enough to light if I remember right. It DID work with a bottle of propane however. Pressure difference, orifice size, dunno.

Naively thought I could do the shackle flip on the 78 F150 for the 1 ton swap today.. spent all my free time for today cutting off the stock rear bumper and rusted bolts. Hopefully this week I can get the shackle flip done.

Camshaft seems to be doing camshaft things.

also got my amp/oil pressure/coolant temp/tach gauges working.

Fuel level is either having issues with the switch (probably) or low enough to register as empty (probably)

every time i touch my instrument cluster more of it ends up on the floor

Got the replacement cross-members in. Amazing how much more rigid the frame is now that it's held together with more than just air.

Gotta wait a few days for the seam sealant to cure enough to lay on the last coat of paint.

Broken bolt:

Beat on the end of it with a hammer. Like hitting a nail.

Doesn't have to be super hard, but do it a few times, gently see if it turns with a pair of vice grips

If not, beat on it some more.

Think of it like a really slow version of an air hammer. When you hit it, it is breaking the corrosion inside the bolt hole.

If you tap on it long enough you will see dirt start to fall out of the hole.

Or air hammer the end of it if you have one.

I usually don't use penetrating oil because as you break the corrosion loose the penetrating oil turns it to mud. If you rattle on it dry you can watch the rust and powder start falling out, then you know it is ready.

Same exact goddamn bolt I had to fish out of my 351 this weekend. Mine was almost broken flush because it was also seized in the timing cover, so I had to break it off by levering the timing cover. Happy I got it out.

Apparently my bolt broke in three pieces:
1) The piece I pulled out
2) The piece that's stuck in the block
3) And a piece that was in the bolt hole of the timing cover.

But said bolt hole was clogged with what looked more like hard-packed thick reddish mud.
It took me a bit to open said hole.
No bolt piece came out, just hard reddish thick mud.

Made a mistake, bought a 1995 bronco from a friend, it was wrecked, they took it apart, hung the front fenders and core support but boxed the rest of the parts, so many parts!
These aeronose area trucks have a lot more crap than I was use to, I guess I get to google pics of the engine bay.
I have a little buyers remorse here, the frame needs to be pulled down and out on the passenger side and I am not sure I want to do it.
The interior is pretty clean overall, well drivers seat is destroyed, but they all are.

Why I wanted it:
1. Broncos are cool.
2. 1995, Last year of Ford EEC-IV (Ford EEC systems was my thing, not OBD2)
3. 351 with Mass Air.
4. Cool Lund side steps.
5. Alcoa style wheels that bring the resale value up.
6. Old man owned, 140k miles
7. Insulated rear top option.

You definitely shouldn't reuse the old one. The new fel pro one will be fine. You just have to make sure you get it in square and to the correct depth.

Fel pro might give you that style so you can install it in a different spot in case you you have a groove worn in the sealing surface of the balancer.
