People in general mistakenly think conspiracy theories are for nutjobs and unintelligent people. They have very little to do with intelligence, and almost everything to do with exploiting emotion and feeling. Intelligent people are the worst in my opinion because they never think they'd fall for such bullshit, so when a conspiracy theory comes along that strikes their interest, or explains why some wrong in the world is someone elses fault, they latch on to it as a belief rather than a conclusion, and put together whatever pieces they need to justify that belief.

I have a really close friend, his place in life has sucked for many years and his business is in a perpetual state of impending failure, because he can't run a business and refuses to change anything. He keeps asking for help from friends who are successful in the same line of work, and getting guidance from them, but is afraid of change and can't take responsibility for his actions, therefore to him life sucks but despite trying everything he can, there is nothing he can do about it. Add on the isolation that a lot of people have felt over the past year, and several of us have noticed he's started to resent and distrust those friends who have been able to adapt and keep their businesses afloat. "They must be screwing the little guy like him to get ahead"

Very intelligent, educated guy but conspiracy theories are his blue pill, they validate his unhappiness with their "other powerful people are at work controlling all of our destiny" underlying theme.
 
All a conspiracy theory is these days is any narrative that isn’t filtered threw social media, msm news or google search algorithms.

So you either choke down that liberal propaganda brainwash no questions asked or are open to “conspiracy theories“

The ridiculous conspiracy theories exist on purpose to discredit the sensible ones. People are supposed to point and laugh at the dumb flat earthers by design because that discourages people from asking questions or having a discussion that roams outside the boundaries the info gods have set for society.

I've found that there's people who are unsuccessful in life that cling to conspiracy theories emotionally, they buy in 100%, and they spit when they talk, similar to religious zealots, or someone following a political ideology blindly, or somebody that bought into the middle of a multi level marketing scam. They'll jump to the next hot conspiracy that explains why they're not getting ahead.

Then, I've discussed conspiracies with self made millionaires, they see the world for what it is, and position themselves accordingly.

I just want the truth. I can't bring bad people to justice, but when i see bullshit, I'll call it. When I see I'm getting scammed, I'll dodge it and protect my family the best I can.

I've found lots of entities and people to be trustworthy and good to deal with.
I have found mainstream media, bill Gates,.gov to be shady as fuck.

I don't mind pointing this bullshit out to my imaginary internet friends, and typically cite sources.
