Spin off: fastest you have ever been in a car on public roadways.

This is after last years 90 mile Silver State race.

I hit 106 in Baja trying to beat the race car to the next pit. I was driving a one ton Dodge 6.7 with a trailer on.

It was a long time ago, but 160 mph in my modified jaguar XJ-S. A buddy of mine was a state trooper and he cleared me and the road for me to do it. I don’t think he or I would be able to get away with it these days.

Also, 108 mph in my old Hydro stream boat.

I don’t think it would be a good idea for me to share . I make the rest of you sound like calm , cool , collected individuals 😂 I am very fortunate to be alive but I LOVE speed .
Psh. Share it. I think a lot of are just talking about the fastest we could get our daily up to. I'd do 200+ on four wheels if I owned anything that was capable.

Mid 160’s WAAAAY too fast as a passenger. Buddy had a 2010 is camaro, F1x pro charger and kept chasing 4 digits to the tire. 4 l80, strange made a 60 third he was beta testing, some 300m axles etc. couldn’t get there. Ditched blower and went twins, 1080 to the tire and we did a roll from 70 to near 170 in very few seconds. Surreal feeling at night on a highway with people all around.

Saw 176 in my avatar recently, it was still climbing easily and quite smooth, after 165 it just gains a mph every second or so. 0 to 100 in just under 8 seconds, 150 in 19 seconds, 176 was at 34 seconds. The sound. I can not describe the engine note at that speed when it is going max effort, almost eerie, "hollow" like a jet engine. Supposedly 197 is the ceiling but I would not trust the aftermarket 3 piece wheels.

168 in my buddies 4 digit GTR and I started whimpering at him, wish I had the times, it is like a sledgehammer to the back and terrifying. Much more raw than the smoothness of mine.

Our state just made anything over 105 a Class B misdemeanor.

When I was younger, I thought I will never have car that I haven’t taken to the top speed. But the newer vettes are hard around here because the roads are not empty enough. I’m not scared of the speed on relatively straight roads, but I just can’t pass someone a 100+ faster than them. I’m scared they will look in the mirror and figure “that car is miles back there” and proceed to change lanes.

Same, man. I've topped out every vehicle I've owned or co-owned, but I leave it to areas where there is little to no traffic. So many drivers out there that freak out easily and it's nearly impossible to tell how they'll react.

Like I've told my wife, I'm going to be teaching our two boys how to be respectful, attentive drivers, even if they feel the need for speed like their father. And certainly teaching all three how to properly drive a stick shift.

Close to 130 in my SRT-6, on Rt 90 on the way back from Toronto. Somewhere between Erie, PA and the state line.

120 comes easy in that car, I hit that a couple times when I had it out this morning.

Come on man. spill it.

tell us a story......:flipoff2::flipoff2:

I’ve hit the governor in a ram 2500 @105, that was scarier than 130 in sports car.

I’ve had my 77 vette low triple digits, one day I’d like to run it to 150, but won’t do it on public roadway.

Last summer I was doing an indicated 175 kmph in a VW T-Roc on the Autobahn and Mercedes minivans were blowing my doors off.

My wife was smiling because I was smiling, but her girls in the backseat were silent wishing that their mother had never met me.

109 in the Dmax on cruise control against the speed governor was SOP for a few years. It would run 2 hrs like that. Pretty uneventful really.

Not really qualifies as fastest I've ever been though.

117 in a '68 Ford Galaxie 500 with sketchy brakes and well past their expiration date (and probably bald) tires.
Although, now that I think about it I might have unofficially went faster in a '78/'79 Mercury Grand Marquis. I think the speedo only went to like 85 and the needle disappeared below the dash (wide horizontal speedo that went clear across the cluster).

150ish 1979 Chevy 454 powered Short bed
160 1995 Z28
165 CBR 900RR
135 Dodge 2500 CTD on 35's GPS verified
175 MV Agusta F4, bouncing off rev limiter with 1 gear to go but to much traffic.

Dude set the current solo Cannonball record in a rented 2020 Mustang GT. The record hasn't been authenticated yet tho. 25 hours 55 minutes

At least our 21 GT is governed to 155. You can get a tune to override it but 155 is fast enough for me on a public road.

180ish in a 996t on the autobahn with my uncle. He said you can get it to 200 but I chickened out. It’s crazy you much smoother the roads are in Germany.

Sketchiest would be 125ish in an xj.

The roads are amazing. But: going over 130 when the guy in the #2 lane comes up on a slower vehicle and signals left...

That-- that is fear. I've never had my stomach drop so far, so fast, as when you have to hit the flashers and hope they don't merge.

Was passenger in a Gumpert Apollo in Germany. Hit 310km which is 200 mph I believe. Wild ride for sure.

160 bouncing off the rev limiter, my 1992 Nissan 300ZX TT.

155 with RPM to spare in my 1990 Porsche C4.

170-ish in a 1997 Porsche Turbo Carrera in 5th gear (6 speed).
