Spin off: fastest you have ever been in a car on public roadways.

I look at these numbers, older now as I am, and it scares the shit out of me to think just how close to death we all were.
Not like we were on a perfect autoban, did you guys even know the road before you hit it?

My highest was on a SoCal freeway and I didn't take note of surface smooth or anything prior, and it was at night. I'm thankful it worked out, and really regret taking that big risk.

154 GPS verified in a lexus rcf..buddy driving

140 speedo said in a Lincoln ls v8...for about 60 miles

144 speedo said in a 98 mustang gt:laughing:..same road about 60 miles....saw some smoke out the back...Trans output shaft seal walked out....wife was not amused:laughing:

Mustang was quick to 110...took like 2 min to get to 140 indicated

Yes..I was on straight stretch of highway that I drove 2x a week....and it was at 0130 in the am.... also happened to know there was no Highway patrol working those hours and I had a radar detector

And this is why I build off road stuff. I just can't stay out of the pedal when it's fast on the street.

You and me both, I have not owned a single car since I sold that Camaro. I learned a long time ago that driving pickup trucks and Jeeps with big tires keeps me out of trouble.

This road for 140 in the MS3, end to end it's about a 3 mile dead straight divided highway without any pullouts and in a valley so good visibility from the hills at both ends:

This chunk of road in the Porsche, again, dead straight divided but only about 1.5 miles...those two right lanes were merging onto this highway and I was already doing 80-90ish when I came off the ramp, so it was not much to keep in it for a few more seconds.

Both I had driven before and were completely empty at the time (ie I didn't pass a vehicle while at speed). So, not the worst.

I've done 100mph on a lot smaller stretches, but that's really nothing.

Yes and no sorta. There is a flat 1 mile stretch of road heading to the coast out of Cathlamet WA where you can really let a car go.

Ran a friend's E36 325i to the speed limiter and held it there for a few miles, he was really disappointed that it stopped at 128 with so much more room on the speedometer.

Had my Mustang up to 120-130 a few times.

I was gonna say 150-155 in my 99 TA racing a Testarossa on I10 between Phoenix and Tucson. I absolutely smoked the blonde driving it to that speed, when the car felt like it was gonna take flight. Backed it down to 120 and she pulled up next to us, smiled and waved and proceeded to pull away .

Pokes post reminded me that I got a ride in a Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 iirc. Went into a corner and 100, exited and smacked 160-170 and felt like we were doing 90. It was fucking awesome. Like a sportbike with 4 tires :smokin:

Around 145 in a 2017 Mustang GT. This was done pulling onto a pretty empty interstate and it was very very mild, smooth, no drama, not sketchy at all. I would have stayed in it but there was a cop car coming over the hill, turns out it was an ex cop car. That sucked because the conditions were right to make a run.
I did about 125 in a friends 1994 Vette and it was way more dramatic but I was the passenger and it was a 2 lane country road.

I've been speedo indicated 135 in a 05 focus st (not anything fun back then), and I'm not sure in the ranger. I wrung it out once or twice before the drive line vibes got concerning, but the vss stops reading around 100 right now. I gotta fix that too.

Years ago we were working on a tower outside of Eureka, NV. The county fair was going on so the nearest hotel available was in Elko. My project manager let me know the GPS monitor on the truck wasn’t working….

For a week straight, twice a day, I had the cruise control set at the speed governor of the work truck (102 mph, per my GPS) for almost an hour on 278.

About a month later, I get a call from my main boss yelling “SLOW DOWN!!!!!”. I look at my speedometer and I wasn’t speeding. Again “SLOW DOWN!!!!”. I guess the truck monitor was working. When the report came in, all the other trucks had a few yellow warnings and a couple reds. I had pages of red!

Where I live now, there are roads straight as a guitar string 20 miles or more and relatively flat. We go up to the “Bisti highway” on the Navajo reservation to play those games. Not a lot of traffic congestion up there.

Bought a Mustang for the first wife and took it up to see where the governor was at. Going 110 and meet a res cop, I never let off and the cop didn’t even hit the brakes.

Kid in my neighborhood had a 1970 Buick GS. We buried the spedo at something over 120, with 4 guys in it and the AC on. That was an awesome car.

Pulled 6200 RPM in my 911 which calc'd to just over 150mph.

Drove a buddies Testarosa to 160 and it was still pulling. When I backed out of it, I asked him "How much faster will it go?", and he said, "No idea, that's the fastest it's ever been.".

Just over 130 in my shitbox v6 accord, fucking with a riced out civic. Rear feels light over 100 rear bumpers on them are like parachutes.
