Spin off: fastest you have ever been in a car on public roadways.

So I found out my Ranger has a speed limiter today.

Youtube confirmed that on a manual trans truck I can just unplug the VSS.

lose your cruise control then though

wonder if you could snip the wire going to the ecm and leave the one going to the CC box

Good thing this truck never had it.

You really don't miss it as much on a manual.

Probably. This era of shit is very much a bunch of dumb standalone shit all sharing a harness.

140mph in a late '80s Subaru Legacy. Between the CO border and the UT HWY 191 exit.

The speddo topped at 140 and I passed that. Definitely going downhill and a tail wind.

This was when there was no highway patrol an that stretch.

One of my most terrifying rides was in the passenger seat of a slammed 2wd tacoma that my best friend had swapped 4runner buckets into, but not the seat belts, put the vss on a toggle switch so no speed limiter, flipping it on and off to verify it was breaking 120, on a somewhat windy road, as her points out the turn Fred flipped his truck 7 times on, while bragging up that his upper control arms are DIY homebuilt:laughing:

That fucker is crazy, he used to be insane. His carnage pile could be a thread on its own

I like my grand marquis. I have two of them in fact. The aforementioned daily driver and another low mileage cherry set aside for a special project. So far i have done tires and one intake gasket and a set of belts. All on the daily. Car has done 130 miles a day 5 days a week for 3 years.

And speaking of awesome tires this car came with a set of "blackhawks" that I had never heard of before. They have close to 50k on them and also have about 1/2 tread. I think they are like 500 bucks a set. Awesome awesome tires.

Wife is doing 150 Miles a day...for the last 14 yrs...

Oof. I was doing it for 7. Just not with that car i was doing it in a diesel jetta. But not anymore i just changed jobs to something that i only have to do 90 miles a day:laughing:

Won't own another vw:laughing:

those PD motors needed a really specific oil, and they'd still eat camshafts sometimes

there was an updated cam and lifters with different metal and heat treat used, but who is gonna dump another $500 into a shitbox that you probably just put a damn timing belt into

Way too fast. It started with a Fox Mustang, eventually leading to a 2011 Camaro SS. I caught myself going way too fast. So I sold it. Now the next car is going to be a retro cruiser. Stock-ish 60-70 era muscle car.

I can control myself with crawlers, and quick accelerating cars just fine. Even bikes due to wind whipping etc. aren't alot of fun at high speeds to me. But for some reason the high top end cars just seem to be tempting.

Not a car but 115 in a 2005 W900L KW, In Nebraska, I lifted it was a little intense going that fast in something that big.

Walking that dog kicking that CAT as they say.
I went for a ride with my friend’s dad (owner-operator) in his blingy Peterbilt 389(?) hauling pigs to slaughterhouses when we were young teenagers one summer.

I asked his dad why we aren’t going any faster than 65 mph?

His answer; he got a full time job on a farm (to be home ever nights to be with his family, kids, aka my friend) and hired a driver to drive his Peterbilt. One day he was driving down a back road at night time. He’s a very good and conservative driver, no reckless driving whatsoever. His Peterbilt overtook him on oncoming lane going at least 120 mph. It was unmistakably his Peterbilt due to all of blingy chromes and billions of running lights and single round headlights. That driver was on his way back to the shop to go home. He governed his truck to 65 and never bother to raise it back up after driving it again. :lmao::homer::laughing:

This was an 06 too. It had like 385k on it when it went to the junker. Not hecause it didnt run but because it was nickel and diming me to death and ghe a/c didnt work because the dash ducts had all fallen apart. Too much work for a 3000 dollar car i got three years out of.

100 Mph in a samurai is too fast. It got on plane around 85 and I didn’t lift til I got to the bottom of the hill. 160 in a 997.2 didn’t feel anywhere near as fast.

Thats because they do it with ease, same with just about anything new. My Nova talks to me, how its moving/shaking/making noises I know what speed I am at, don't need the speedo. From legal speeds to well in excess, the more talking the car does. New vehicles? They got the NVH down to practically nothing. My Express van at work will easily cruise down the road well in excess of the speed limit and you wouldn't know it from any noises other than the shit rattling in back, besides watching the world whip by theres no additional reminder sounds or quirks that say hey, you are going faster than you should be. Make it a vehicle made for speed and it gets even better.

On the other hand, all that refined goodness is what makes modern cars so boring at legal speeds (aka the speed limit), they don't talk to you. 30mph, 60mph, 90mph, 110mph. Meh. its all the same, and that gets you more easily in trouble with the law since theres nothing but the speedo to let you know just how fast you are going.

I got 97mph outta a KTM 540SX. Bike had another gear but I ran outta balls:laughing:
I hit 90 on a 2016 husky 350 dual sport on knobbies. Went great from 0 to 80, took awhile from 80-90.

Was loose on the bars tucked into the tank during the last section. Clear visibility for yards.

I just wanted to see 90 on the gauge. I really liked that bike but sold it cause the payment and I don't have an endorsement.

Had a Mitsubishi Galant VR4 with a ton of work done to it 15ish years ago. Radar verified 155mph at 4am on a Sunday. Had just done new injectors and what started as just a 3 gear pull to see where i needed to tune turned into a full pull. Car was a total sleeper, which made it an absolute riot on the street.

Friend of a friend was a NHP trooper....had a charger...he put a tune on it and cold air intake...had a video with his radar on The dash...at 155 mph the light bar on top ripped off:lmao::lmao:

Took the tune and airbox off when he took it in for service.....mech couldn't understand why the light bar came off..they thought it was loose:laughing:

The gave him a slick top after that...:laughing:

Retired now....but he said he got lots of surprised looks from German car and corvette owners when he would catch them....

Was cool for me..cause I knew that from midnight to 0600 there were no cops on the about a 60mile stretch of straight higway

Lessee...1st time in a car was ~110 on Davidson mesa (US 36 to Denver) during the downhill jaunt in a 1960 Super 88 olds. Wouldnt recommend that to folks with a weak stomach on roller coaster rides. Next 2 times were in a 225 Electra with a tweaked 455 at ~120, the cops were nice and didn't give me reckless tickets, probably cuz they didn't believe a beater could go that fast. Last time was in a Toyota Supra with the 6 and turbo doing ~125-130. Wifes car and she was NOT happy behind me driving a Camry that was about 1/2 mi behind and getting left further as we traveled.

Before that? Motorcycle KZ650 doing 110 on a trek to OR from CO...

What can I say? I have a lead right foot and a serious go fast cramp in my right hand...:dustin:

There still isn't. Occasionally you'll see a CSP at the eastbound state line cuz the speed limit changes. Other than that it's the western slope Autobahn clear to Richfield.
