Spin off: fastest you have ever been in a car on public roadways.

110-ish on 680 in San Ramon. I only noticed how fast after I started slowing down for my exit.

7500ish rpm 3:70 rear gear. About 26” tire. All I remember

This morning on the way to my new job at 430ish am i discovered that a 2008 grand marquis will in fact do the 120 at the top of the speedo. It doesn't necessarily like it... But it will do it.:flipoff2:
Interesting....my 2002 would only do 108....till I put a p71 ecm in ....raised the limter to 120..:smokin:...mine had the sport and handling package on it...was stable at 108..didn't feel bad at all

Wasnt but 18 at the time, didnt have a wife. I was riding with an idiot. Driver probably should have died several different times. Wore a beard to hide the windshield scars from a wreck he had years earlier. He woke up laying on the hood of his truck. Drag racing on the city streets. Broadsided a datsun car at an intersection. He said he was winning the race. Lol
I hate it when you are clearly racing and someone pulls out in front of you.

I did buy this car at auction. May or may not have had some "tweaks"

I really liked the vic for a highway cruiser...enough power to get out of its own way...

Bought it with 110k on it put Yokohama yk740 tires on factory sport 17 rims..and put 55k Miles on it in 2 years....had to do timing chains, guides at 160k...when I picked up the benz..I sold it to my nephew he's rocking it as a DD and it's has 175k on it now....tires have 60k on them and still over 50 tread:eek:....I bought a matching rim and tire so it does get 5 tire rotation about every 6k miles...tires are outstanding and would buy again

I like my grand marquis. I have two of them in fact. The aforementioned daily driver and another low mileage cherry set aside for a special project. So far i have done tires and one intake gasket and a set of belts. All on the daily. Car has done 130 miles a day 5 days a week for 3 years.

And speaking of awesome tires this car came with a set of "blackhawks" that I had never heard of before. They have close to 50k on them and also have about 1/2 tread. I think they are like 500 bucks a set. Awesome awesome tires.

130 ish as a passenger.

As a driver, 115 ish in an ‘88 Subaru Justy, was all that little 3 cylinder could do, and over about 90 it was getting a bit sketchy.

According to the gear ratio, tire size math I rode with a buddy to 170 in a modded 97 mustang Cobra.
I drove my mustang GT to 150 plus, assuming the Speedo was correct.

fuck, even at 55 if you yank the wheel back and forth it'll do some terrifying shit when the rearend and the chassis flex start steering for you
IDK how the fuck they made it this way but on my Legacys, with the OEM tire size and no sway bars snap oversteer corrects itself.

It's soooooo fucking disconcerting but it just nails it every time. Just let the steering wheel do what it wants and straighten it out at "the natural time" and you're golden. . Sometimes if you've got more weight out back (like a fridge in the trunk) it takes two oscillations.

And this isn't just a me thing. I've had someone else in the driver's seat come into a left turn too hot and remark that the car just kinda sorts itself out better than you can.

I bought that car on a rainy night, I was 18, everything else I'd ever owned was an under powered 4wd. We all know that 240hp is nothing these days, but in a 2800lb car with a stick shift and without any of today's nanny bullshit, it could get you in a world of trouble:laughing:
I scared myself, backed out of it and putputted home to try again another day

I also bought a wadded up 85 5.0 5spd car in about 2000, the kid wadded it up on the freeway. The well known hard ass bulldyke highway patrol officer said "I've crashed like 3 of these, I'm not giving you a ticket"

on these it isn't breaking traction or anything, the control arms and chassis just flex so much that the steering wheel goes limp and you're going wherever jesus wants you to go

Early 20's, at a friend's swapping some drag radials on his 89 for the weekend. With the jack under the rear end, he tries to get something out of the car and the doors won't open. "Dude I've been telling you... it's time for subframe connectors."

145 mph in my old RX7, with 1k rpm renaming before red line.
Faster on a bike.

I was clocked by a VA State Trooper at 167 in this:

He was waiting for me out side my house when I came home. Friend of the family, so he let me off but told me not to do it again, lol. I didn't, at least on that stretch of 64.

Lights were for deer, a bit of a problem at high speeds and I wanted to see them way down the road.

That’s impressive. I can get a little of that in hard cornering but it’s fully predictable and can be planned for. Amazing what ten years of progress does.

143 on the gps of my friends Mercury grand marquis marauder .

or just not being the most underbuilt piece of shit disposachassis that ford has ever made

According to the trooper when he "visited" with my dad at the barber shop later I clocked 133 on his radar. Told pop he knew that I was close to the house and it was 3am so he figured a talk with dad was better than chasing me. I had no idea that Oldsmobile would go that fast but I was late getting home. 1979 time frame.
Today I am sure I'd be in jail still.
