What's new

Russia / Ukraine thread

I kinda dig that high roof suburban thing. Ambulance?
Yep. Looks like at least three other square bodies in varying states of smashed that could be used for parts, besides what's pointed out.

Hmmmmm, looks like all those states have state run liquor stores. Correct ?
Well yeah...

If I owned a liquor store and someone told me to pull my delicious potato vodka from the shelf I'd smash one over my head and cut a bitch. Or maybe their head, vodka bottles are sturdy.

That was the point. IMO I doubt a state government can issue an order for a private store to stop selling a legal product.

The only way I can see that happening is if the BATF found some labeling or QC loophole that could shut down sales. But clown world and all that...

Its probably abc stores which are state owned. I know nc has them. Edit nvm.

ummm....

They did it under the guise of the pandemic... what makes you think they can't/won't do it for other reasons?
Really? here in SC they were deemed essential and told to say open. Didn't want a bunch of SOBs going through detox.

Do the distributors eat the cost then? I hate all this misguided virtue signaling.

If a state made a business dump something over some shit that absolutely nothing to do with the state, one would think the state should be sending out reimbursement checks. However, we know how that would go.

But, alas, what are they actually banning? I'd like to see their list.

Smirnoff? Nope, British owned. Not to mention it being made a bottled in a litany of countries, including here (Illinois, at least). Started Russian in the 1860s. Booted from Russia in the early 1900s. Moved to Poland (a part that is now Lviv, UKR). Added a second shop in France. Partnership with Americans a decade later. All the huge alcohol conglomeration came along 40-50 years ago and it was sold like a prison bitch until 1997. This is probably the biggest name in vodka here.

Russian Standard Vodka? Never heard of her, don't care. Guessing very little sales here. 2021: 237,000 cases sold in the U.S. vs. 8.9m from Smirnoff.

Stoli? Is it owned by Russia or SPI Group? Damian McKinney, Stoli Group global CEO said about Stoli's origins: "With regard to us being Russian. We are absolutely NOT a Russian company, we are a global organization with a significant portfolio of spirits and wine brands from around the world." This stems from the breakup of the Soviet Union. A historic Russian brand owned by two different companies - one based in Russia, and one based in Luxembourg. The Stolichnaya vodka you find in the US, for example, is made in Latvia.

Of the 149 Vodkas on the list in the above link, 13 are Russian, two are maybes. Stoli is probably the only recognizable name to anyone that is not big into vodkas. I'm a bourbon drinker, so that's the only one I recognize and have maybe bought a bottle of once.

not talking alcohol specifically... most state governments shut down legal businesses on a whim. To think they won't again for "whatever reason they want" seems like people forgot about 2020 already.

That looks kinda weird and you didn't post what it is.

Your post looks like a hacker spam-bot selling viagra pills.
Do you want some though?

My bad, it’s about a FSB spy that gave the location of the Chechen troops to Ukr and they took them out with drone strikes

Seems like MS joined the fight.

WASHINGTON — Last Wednesday, a few hours before Russian tanks began rolling into Ukraine, alarms went off inside Microsoft’s Threat Intelligence Center, warning of a never-before-seen piece of “wiper” malware that appeared aimed at the country’s government ministries and financial institutions.

Within three hours, Microsoft threw itself into the middle of a ground war in Europe — from 5,500 miles away. The threat center, north of Seattle, had been on high alert, and it quickly picked apart the malware, named it “FoxBlade” and notified Ukraine’s top cyberdefense authority. Within three hours, Microsoft’s virus detection systems had been updated to block the code, which erases — “wipes” — data on computers in a network.

I bet the beers with talos podcast will be an interesting listen in a few weeks as well.

I attended a seminar by those guys about a year or so ago. One thing they showed was how Russia basically used the Ukraine as beta testing for cyber warfare. Any new idea, technique, virus, or malware they came up with, they first tested on Ukraine. They said they started watching what was happening in Ukraine because it was like a preview of what Russia would try to use on the rest of the world in 6 months - 1 year.

He leveled Grozny only after he could not take it. Heavy losses. I have a Military history periodical that covered urban fighting. Called "Forests Of Steel". Chapter on Grozny is called "The Face of Wars to Come"

Of the 6000 troops that went into Grozny almost all became casualties of some sort.

Tactical lesson the author draws is "Hastily assembled and ill-prepared conscripts cannot take a city held by determined fighters defending their homes. Urban combat requires quality forces- forces with an advantage in organization, training, technology. political preparation and timing."

Don't think Putin or his strategists read this document...
Even the best trained, led and equipped troops will take heavy losses in urban combat against someone with a 22 that is defending home and family. I still remember the first day of urban combat training and the instructor told us it doesn't matter how good you are some of you will "die" today, that's just the nature of urban combat. Can't imagine going in with a bunch of conscripts who don't want to be there and don't believe in what they're fighting for.

If people doubt this all they need to do is read up on the battle for Stalingrad.

Yep, the USSR wrote the first edition of the book on urban combat. The battle for Hue City in Vietnam was another example of urban combat where the best got a black eye and bloodied nose.

Nikki Haley 2024. She makes a whole lot of sense. She's seen through all the bullshit and calls a spade a spade.

It's just basic high school level stuff. It boggles my mind that we haven't stopped any oil purchases from Russia. Being in the oil industry, the regulations that certain states have put up in the last few years are the biggest obstacle to increasing domestic production. Look at Colorado. Basically impossible to get a new drilling permit here now.

Look no further than the Democrat Party; hard at work undermining our oil independence.
