Russia / Ukraine thread

Exactly. They are pulling all the stops to get us in a war.

If NATO just let it be known that Ukraine is not going to be allowed into the club, Russia would back down from invading.
This. Having Ukraine join NATO is like having a Russian missile base in Cuba. We would be doing the same thing as Russia is in that case.

True, but probably not as big of a deal as it once was with modern equipment and resources.

I could be remembering it wrong, but I think one of the biggest fuck ups for the Nazi's when they tried during WWII was planning on relying on Russian rail line without realizing they used different track widths than what was standard in Europe at the time.
Ah; interesting. 🤔

I'm of the opinion a big reason Germany failed (Operation Barbarossa) was because they were delayed with the invasion by one month due to Hitler rerouting troops.

The German army were on the outskirts of Moscow (15 miles) when Winter hit/set in, Dec. 2nd.
If they had been on time/schedule, they would have been where they were the 1st of Nov.

World War the first they were well aware of the track differences

Why even bother with fighting over Ukraine? Mine the shit out of Nordstream 1 and 2, suggest Ukraine does the same thing to pipelines their and tell Russia and Europe to play nice or Russia will be broke and Europe will be dark and cold.

Short and Gt understand. Dont add Ukraine to NATO and start a war.

I see it as we are in the same position as Germany was economically during world war 2. We build some of the coolest, most advanced, and capable shit on the battlefield. But we don’t have the industrial capacity to back it up. It will take us years to rebuild the factories, foundries, ship yards, and transportation system we once had before we can even think of producing war materials in any reasonable quantity. In comparison China and Russia are still capable of switching to a total war economy overnight. They will be turning out less capable, therefore less complex equipment, but building a ton of it, and not relying on mass foreign imports to do it. It doesn’t matter if we have 11 carriers if they can produce 10000 anti ship missiles in the time frame it takes us to construct 1 new ship.
If profit was not a driver we can still do that, overnight.

The work they did on ventilators (small potatoes I get it) was the old war effort in its entirety because .GOV funded it.

I'm betting putin waits for the olympics to start and while the world is distracted they make their move
He'll be at the olympics. The chinese made a big showing of how the russian president was coming to show that they don't care about the american government coming.

I have not been watching anything olympics. I was torn on the boycott. I think we should have but honestly the only people who would have suffered would have been the athletes that sacrificed years of their lives for this one chance. Hell this administration could not even keep politicians away after they announced a boycott. They should at least send the babylon bee and the onion over there to point out how shitty china is until they get booted out.

I said this exact thing last week.

I have read that the Ukrainian Defense Minister went on local TV and said they don't expect Russia to invade soon or anytime in the near future.

Here's another:

Bloomberg - defense minister

Ukraine’s top military official played down the risk of a full-scale Russian invasion and laid part of the blame for heightened tension on international media, insisting that the threat from the Kremlin hasn’t significantly changed in eight years.

They wanted a war with Russia so bad, from the 50s on so America could get our butt kicked and be put "in their mind" our rightful place in the world

Is Russia's objective the entire country, or only part?

Are they invading just for the natural resources, or is there more to the story?

There is an area that's been a break away area from Ukraine in the SE, that's been at war since 2014. Russia is backing that break-away faction. The area in question is near Crimea. I would make sense for Russia to consolidate that region so Crimea isn't cut off from the rest of Russia. I think it will happen before the ground thaws, so by March.

They will cruise right through the Bosphorus strait in the middle of Istanbul Turkey into the black sea. My guess is a couple weeks tops before the invasion, they won't keg up the troops on the ships for too long.
