Ukraine says it has inflicted one of Russia's heaviest days of losses
Footage posted online purported to show the tail end of a missile strike on the Russian military's airbase around 10am local time (8am GMT) with several buildings on the site engulfed in flames.

which is why the tester with armenia was interesting, using this same policy of contested areas. Then entering ukraine under the peacekeeping guise gave them all the room in the world. No reaction = keep going, international reaction = stay on the east side and build your bases for a while. win/win.
of course, russia likely didn't expect to lose as much stuff as they seem to be
and ukraine seems to be holding their own pretty damn well, all things considerededit: let's say ukraine is successful in repelling this, I'd imagine they won't try to get in favor with NATO ever again

In 2016, the U.S. and Ukraine agreed to a 5-year concept of partnership that focuses on developing a robust and capable Ukranian military and reforming the Ukrainian defense sector to be in line with NATO standards and principles. The Bilateral Defense Consultations sets the priorities for the bilateral defense relationship for the next year in accordance with the partnership agreement, the defense official said. The consultations identify common goals and objectives for the U.S. and Ukraine to collaborate on, such as defense sector transformation, security cooperation, and acquisition reform.

It's accepted that Putin wants to see the former USSR borders reestablished. Since he already 'owns' Belarus, I can see him taking latvia, estonia, and lithuania back into the fold, then circling back onto georgia.

i don't know how stable the 3 north westerners' have been, but Russia was just in Georgia a decade (?) ago, so it would seem reasonable that they could make the same peacekeeping claim by now, or in a couple years so that each state settles down. slow pace, obviously Europe isn't going to lift a finger against anybody who isn't one of them, proper.

SEOUL (Reuters) - Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un the significance of cooperation between the two countries, North Korea's state media KCNA reported on Saturday.
In a message to Kim, Xi said China is ready to work, together with the Korean side, to steadily develop the China-DPRK relations of friendship and cooperation ... "under a new situation", KCNA said.
The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is North Korea's official name.
KCNA did not further elaborate on the nature of "a new situation."
Xi made the remarks in response to Kim's congratulatory message for the Beijing Winter Olympics Games and a verbal message of congratulation soon after the successful closing of the games, according to KCNA.
Earlier this week, Kim, in a verbal message to Xi, vowed to strengthen cooperation with China and together "frustrate" threats and hostile policies from the United States and its allies.
North Korea did not participate in the Games, which ended on Sunday. In a previous letter from sports authorities in January, North Korea blamed "hostile forces" and COVID-19 risks for not being able to attend.
North Korean athletes were not eligible to compete under their national flag after the country failed to send a team to the Tokyo Summer Olympics last year, citing COVID-19 concerns. China has been North Korea's only major ally since the two signed a treaty in 1961.

Decriminalize all illicit drugs in the US. The cartels want to make money, right? Well, China isn’t keen on drugs either, neither is the DPRK. Over 1B potential users. The cartels want to keep the $$$$ rolling in. They are better armed and equipped than many countries. Tell them we will get them a foothold on the Asian continent, but they have to do the legwork.
