Rapey Snap-On Tools

I had terrible luck with lisle tools. Their sockets or bits of all kinds are embarrassing weak. No warranty!
I work with a guy who worked R&D for lisles 10 years ago when they were going through their cost cutting. They still design tools that work… once or twice.
Which is what most home gamers and guys starting out need.
If you break a lisle, it’s time to get a good tool.
Their tap sockets are good, they supply everyone with those.

IowaOffRoad I don’t know about that. Their allen and torx bits are special piece of crap. Harbor Freight’s Pittsburg held up MUCH longer, looks a lot nicer no machining marks, and have lifetime warranty. They’re better off go straight to the scrap bin. :shaking:

I just pulled them out of my scrap bin to take pics of them lol

This one immediately split in half brand new on a Jeep seat belt bolt.

I kept on buying them because Made in USA thinking I picked up a bad batch or just a bad luck before I knew better.

Yes, those are great but I can’t find ones for metric taps tho. They are different sized square heads tHan SAE

they dont have to be that tight of a fit. You're tapping holes with an impact for christ sake, we dont need that much precision

Always fought with the snap on guy about warrantying those. "well if they arent impact sockets, why'd ya make em black like an impact socket?" Was about 50/50 on if he would swap em out or not:laughing:

Since we talking bout taps... oh hey look a penny!

Have you guys tried these yet? It's like 6lb 7oz. Baby jesus blesses ever broke tap they remove.

No lol. Last time I used snap ring pliers.
Edit rotated it a little bit with a punch then used the pliers to get it out.

I don’t like them falling out of the tap holder when tapping in deep areas or multiple holes.i do much more things then build driveshafts :flipoff2:

I just ran a truck account. He had my card on file, we had agreed upon weekly payments, 0% interest, and no real limit on what I spent. I was buddies with my driver though (former employee) and he knew I didnt NEED snappy tools as I use them for home wrenching not work. I never paid retail and always hustled on the BOGO deals with a discount on top of it. I amassed a ton of Snappy tools and a nice slide top cart. I'm pretty well topped out though, dont need much more, but the warranty is nice. I dont think their ratchets can be beat honestly and for precision engagement stuff like torx and allen I prefer their tools. I also really like their 14.4v line as its smaller than anything else out there on the market and fits in tight spots. The 3/8" impact is money. That said, I've been picking up a lot of Icon recently too...

Check out the wera hex plus for hex keys. They are very nice.

I use 12 point sockets to power tap with an impact. A little slop lets the tap float a bit to stay centered.

8 point sockets work well too. And those fuckers are handy to have around if you use square head set screws much..

Mess much with 90° brass or hydraulic fittings and a few weatherhead sockets are fucking legit:smokin:

Those aren’t the tap sockets. Agreed, the torx are garbage

You’re too late, I already bought those a few months ago. :flipoff2:

Thanks to you two I found mine:). Low use tool, comes in handy when needed.

Tool addiction produced by this thread was real. Held my own, $0 spent thus far:flipoff2:

I did end up in the garage earlier, amazing how much accumulation takes place, maybe a 1/3 sees somewhat regular use in my case.

Then again anymore I buy on a per need/project basis, and build it into overall cost.

One day I’ll have a bjp1 but I’m not buying new.

One of the few snap on tools I own, others are ratchet wrenches. All were pretty much free at a storage locker auction, the auction paid for itself with 5.9 cummins parts and the hidden tools were a bonus. The BJP is absolutely worth it :smokin:

Mayhew Steel used to be in my town, now the building is the town garage. I did a lot of electrical work in that place, unfortunate to see it go.

They made bars for craftsman, matco, snap on and self branded mayhew, same pieces, just different handles and stamps.

I might have some seconds.
Mayhew was making the heelbars for snapon. They got the angles right on them:smokin:

I'm just a schmuck at home so my box is full of a little bit of everything. Kobalt mainly, can be warrantied at any Lowes. Some craftsman, few Lilsie, OTC, Olsa, etc.

However, my ratchets are SK. A 1/2" my Dad gave me older than I am, same with the breaker bar. 3/8" regular and stubby I bought to match and a 1/4" I almost never use. I will go to my grave saying SK's are the best ratchets for the money. At least older ones. Unsure if they still are as I think they went through bankruptcy a while back.

I use square sockets on large taps but the actual tap sockets have an o ring inside to retain the tap.
Sounds fancy.

For the basic sizes I really like the drill & tap bits. Dewilt makes decent ones which I'm sure are made by someone else.

I bought half of my snapon tools new and half used. But after using them for approaching 30 years, they are worth it. The people that go on about how overpriced they are and HF tools are just as good are the same people running chinese Maypops on their cars and wearing velcro shoes from walmart.
