Rapey Snap-On Tools

I'm surprised you guys dont have several of these floating around. Other than chipping guns for welding the 4 inch version of this is about as small as we go.

if anyone's thinking about getting one of these, get the hex shank
mine's round and it's a pain keeping the chisel lined up because it wants to rotate

Those are badass but may be overkill for what I do.

nah, watch on ebay for their bigger brother, the jumbo shank rivet buster
it comes in handy fairly often in automotive work

ETA: and you get to laugh at guys wasting money on high dollar 401 and 498 shank toys

There's a bigger IR running around, I've seen used once or twice. When I first started here I never saw an air hammer used. I use mine all the time, screw swinging a hammer. A lot of our stuff isn't that big. I've been eying the snapon seal and race drivers with the air hammer attachment. The bigger sizes aren't cheap though they look like they'd come in handy. My account is down to $25.43, might as well throw $600 of seal drivers on it. Too bad they don't pop up on ebay cheap.

just make them on the lathe
they're just aluminum circles that interchange on a 401 shank right? make them outta steel because more betterer

This is a whole nother ball game. I'm surprised the snap on works that well for you. The little guys are nice for everyday tasks and then if you are serious you get a big river buster that hits like a 60lb jackhammer in a package you use vertically at your shoulder if you have to (my personal favorite way of removing mill liner bolts).

We had a couple hex shank guns, they quickly got converted round shanks. I'll have to ask why next week.

I don't do precision auto mechanicing with them so generally I just use a longer bit and a guiding hand or put some side pressure on the hammer which generally keeps the bit from rotating.

the round shank chisels don't fit in the hex bushing, so that'd be a bit of a pain if you've got both styles floating around

yeah, rock scaling and such would be a lot more tolerant of (what to call it...) mis-strikes?
I haven't put a hole in anything important yet, but when you're running an air hammer that'll peel open CV bells with ease*, shit happens fast

*ever done one of them nissan suvs with the axleshaft carrier bearing on the engine, steel bearing in an aluminum housing that's supposed to be a slip fit? Salt makes that slip fit into the tightest press fit nature will allow, lol

Our mill was originally built to process 54 tons an hour. Our stuff is tiny, I think our biggest pump is a 6x8. I think we are finally getting a thunderbolt for liner bolts. Most of our stuff is smaller.

The snapon air hammer is a besat for what it is. Replacing poppet seats on our paste pumps used to be a 1/2 day job trying to pound wedges and chisels in. Now it's a 15 minute job, rattle the seat with an air hammer and it walks out.

54 tph depending on the application is a 2000+HP mill.

I'm jealous of the thunderbolt, Ive been trying too justify one for a while but I'm about out of liner jobs and an oxylance is pretty quick for the occasional stubborn bolts.

Well crap, my old 24oz brass dead blow hammer handle is blowing apart on me. None of my connections see any snappy trucks stopping by their shops. So I called snappy to see what they can do.

Lady took my info and said once they get them back in inventory they’ll ship out a new replacement to my. Late December looks like. That’s find as I can get by without it for now. Once it shows up, she asked that I verify it’s what I need to replace my old out of date hammer, then if it is, throw the old one away. :smokin:

i have a new style one in 24oz. Don"t be disappointed when you get the new one and its not dead blow like the ball peens.

We used the it's cheaper than a LTI from a sledge hammer and it should speed up mill jobs angle. Not to mention the average age on my crew is 50. I think they quoted $39k for one. It was a pretty easy sell once it got on the right person's radar.

I didn’t think it would probably compare to my old one but we’ll see whenever it arrives. Some of the plastic blew off close to the top of the handle on it, I’m not sure how the shot peen is held in the old hammer but maybe I’ll weld a hand grip handle on it and use it for other shit if stays together up top. Time will tell, I may accelerate it coming apart too see what happens
