Musk Plans to Go Ahead With Twitter Purchase at $54.20 a Share

Billionaire Elon Musk is proposing to go ahead with his original offer of $54.20 to take Twitter Inc private, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday, sending the shares of the social media firm surging.
Twitter shares jumped 12.7% at $47.93 before trading was halted for the second time, while Tesla Inc., the electric vehicle company that Musk heads, fell about 3%.
Musk made the proposal in a letter to Twitter, Bloomberg reported, citing people who asked not to be identified discussing confidential information.
Twitter and Musk's lawyers were not immediately available for requests for comment from Reuters.
The news comes ahead of a highly anticipated faceoff between Musk and Twitter at Delaware's Court of Chancery on Oct. 17, in which the social media company was set to seek an order directing Musk to close the deal at $54.20 per share.
Musk agreed in April to buy Twitter for $44 billion, but within weeks said the number of bot accounts was much higher than Twitter's estimate of less than 5% of users.

I really wonder what sort of game he is playing with twitter. I also wonder if he picked up more shares along the way at a deflated price or some call options or something.

Lol now they are worried he will affect the midterms if he follows thru on the deal to buy Twatter! LOL

Pretty sure they claimed that blocking people from social media had no ability to affect elections?

SCOTUS is poised to rule on their 230 protections this term too. Could get interesting.

i read a bunch of the replies, they are fucking scared as fuck. i bet half of the replies are fake accounts.
Its obvious on Facebook. One of the clickbait movie things pops up and it has 2.5k comments. 99.5% of the comments are pretty much all the same saying how much they loved the movie using not quite right English. The comments are always generic and could be used for nearly every movie ever made. I'm pretty sure they make a couple actual comments and then let their bots use machine learning or something to reply based off the original comments.

The same thing happens on big political discussions, although I think the bot count is a bit lower, maybe 75%

Fine, you can make the same argument that it affected previous elections. Open investigations into Parag Agrawal immediately. :homer:

Fucking insane to see mainstream media clamoring over themselves to limit free speech like it's not the only reason these fucking idiots have a job in the first place. What sway over elections does Twitter have that mainstream media doesn't?

Not more sway, but a lower barrier to entry - there's nothing on Twatter to keep an average person's message from being heard and resonating based on its merits.

Well, except for massive censorship :frown:

For now :stirthepot:

He should also make it so they cant delete a tweet after its been up for 5 minutes. Keep them from changing what they said 3 months down the line when its proven to be wrong.

And to show just how progressive and in tune with women's rights he is, he should allow them to post topless pics, just like the guys can. 😁

So what? No ones forcing you to use Twitter any more than you're forced to watch CNN. You more access to stupid people's thoughts, doesn't really change anything.

So, nothing, I guess. You asked what the difference was, I gave one.

No ones forcing you to use Twitter any more than you're forced to watch CNN.
I don't do either, so I'm glad it's not required.

You more access to stupid people's thoughts, doesn't really change anything.
Regardless, I'm encouraged at the prospect of uncensored discourse. Not my circus, not my monkeys, but it affects the veracity of the "facts" reaching the masses.

It does though. Many conservatives wont even try and join for the censorship is just too much. If they join it will help counter he liberal voice. I probably will join if it goes through just to be a statistic to the left of people who joined after he bought it. Also it has some of the best up to date speculation regarding financial markets and what impacts them.
