Guy answers door in Arizona - shot dead by cops in 5 seconds. Oh he's white...

If you yelled out “who is it?” And they responded “police” but you can’t see them in the peep hole, then what? You open the door trustingly?

Nope. Stay out of sight behind cover, call 911 to verify it really is the cops, find out why they are at the door, use 911 to calm the situation so guns are not out and pointed when the door is opened.

first link made my head hurt did not finish.

Second link substantiates my wag shooter cop was protecting cop in the breezeway.

Shooter cop will walk, Police Chief will stand behind him.

First link sort of fit with the original idea of white dude shot by cops for the OP, but also because it shows the author isn't some random person on Twitter for the second.

Az Judges are not "elected." But they are on the ballot as to whether or not to retain them. The problem is that bad judge's rotations coincide with Presidential elections, so every Dick and Jane that only know who they want as President and haven't researched any of the other offices or items on the ballot just vote "Yes" to retain them because they erroneously believe that they have to fill out the entire ballot.

There's a judge that has gotten piss poor reviews and still managed to be retained with a 70-something "Yes" vote the last 3 times he's been on the ballot. The average judge gets a 98% "Yes" vote; so you can see about 30% of voters do their homework, the rest are just there to vote for a President. IMO, local elections would be better if they were not on the same day/month/year/whatever as Federal or even State elections (same thing happens during Gubernatorial elections), let the 30% that actually care enough to be informed make the decisions.

Thus the lament of every good HS US Government teacher ever. High-quality post.

I fully admit that I do not research every candidate on the ballot, but then, I also don't fill out a mark when I don't know. I just voted in a Primary, to show up and vote for a referendum on hospital funding (continuance of millage). The rest of the ballot was a typical small-town primary with most of the seats occupied by only one individual from one party. I left it blank except for Sheriff. Returned the incumbent.

Equal fault in this case. If the guy thought he needed to "defend" himself against fake cops the #1 worst way is to just open the door with your pistol in hand. I'm on the cops side on this one, and I hope the perp is dead so he doesn't continue to drain on the system.

You have? Tell your story so that ignorant people like me can learn.

I may be dumb, I have never claimed otherwise. Everyone bases their actions on what "probably" will or won't happen, and everyone has some level of ignorance until they find out otherwise.

If someone knocks on my door in the middle of the night, I'm going to check and see who it is before opening the door. With or without a gun. If I didn't see anyone there as in Ryan Whitaker's case, I wouldn't open the door and I would consider arming myself and staying in my house.

Also, I appreciate your concern for my family's safety. Can't say irate4x4 doesn't care

Paragon actually tries to troll, but who knows.

Also, 'trust but verify' was a famous quote of Reagan's, and I forgot who he got it from.

Pompeo just spoke at the Nixon family home on the subject of re-positioning the US toward China. His quote? "Distrust and verify" ;) It was a great speech, first real whitepill I've had since COVID began.

Cops were in the wrong here

Dude wasn’t so good in his tactics, 1) he opened the door, 2) walked right out into the hall.

It's not uncommon for criminals to knock first to make sure you're not ready to respond. Criminals would rather deal with people who just got woken up and has no situational awareness than deal with someone ready to meet them.

Both of these.

I live in a somewhat shitty area. My block isn't bad, there's a lot of gentrification going on in the immediate area, but I'm also like 10 blocks from some of the worst public housing on the east coast. A 15 year old kid got shot and killed in a drive by a block back and 4 blocks over from me a couple weeks ago. There's an ABC store a 1/4 mile from me that's directly across from a police precinct and they've got 1.5" inch bullet proof glass at the counter you have to order from. Home invasions are pretty rare here, but I'm still not opening my door after dark, if I can't see someone out the window or peephole, ect. You better believe I'm standing near the door with a gun in my hand until I call and verify someone identifying themselves on the other side as police are actually police.

Not just for my own safety from criminals, but from police as well. Police are jumpy as shit. There's been too much militarization in the last twenty years. A lot of departments have IQ limits when hiring. Not saying all cops are out to shoot someone, but this video is a prime example of why just walking right out the door with a gun in your hand is fucking dumb. It's just smart to minimize involvement in anyone that's armed and can likely kill you, whether they intend to or not, and get away with it even if it's blatantly on video like this. Doesn't take but a minute to call the police and verify you're dealing with actual police.

Yeah, it was a Regan and Gorbachev thing(Gorbachev got sick of how often Regan used it if I remember right), but I like to attribute it to our CFO here because he's the only person I have ever heard say it since probably 1990. I hadn't heard Pompeo's speech, I'll have to go look for it.

He got it from the Russians. It's a typical saying.
Kind of like "shooting two rabbits with one bullet" - also very Russian.

While I’m not completely familiar with AZ gun laws I’m under the impression they are very lax, if so, was he actually breaking any law by opening the door with a gun in his hand?

Too late to ever know. Responsible gun owners don't act like he did, and he was not due the benefit of teh doubt because he was too stupid to know how to answer the door.

Why’s it to late to know? Did he break any laws by opening the door with a gun in his hand? He didn’t appear to point it at anybody and no obvious threat was made at the doorway.

Are you kidding me? If you were just a non-cop walking by and he opened the door like that and acted the same way would you think nothing of it? Don't be daft.

Are you stupid?

If I knocked on someone's door late at night and they showed up with a gun in their hand I would think nothing of it. It's a perfectly reasonable response if you're not expecting anyone.

I tend to agree, but also consider the cops were expecting an individual who had been actively engaging in domestic violence according to the 911 caller, so I have to assume they were already on edge, expecting a confrontation with a violent individual, and seeing the gun put them over that edge.

You're like blacks defending George Floyd or Michael Brown just because they're black. Those two were just horrible people all-around, not great examples of police brutality, and not the right ones to prop up if you actually have a cause. This piece of shit had it coming, and your defending of him is just as illogical.

I agree on Floyd and Brown. I didn't hear about the background of this guy. Can you fill us in? I didn't see anything in the video that suggested he was a POS.

I'm making a judgement call based on my experience. Just like I did with those other two. Trust but verify, and I give the Phoenix cops the benefit of the doubt. The video evidence is enough for me to say the police did nothing wrong even if they knocked on the wrong apartment door and the guy was literally just some Joe. You don't answer a knock from police like that. If you don't think it's really the police then you certainly don't open the fucking door!

Have you ever had a friend?

ANY Friend?

How about family?

How about watched this show called the news?

People knock on doors ALL THE TIME and say "POLICE"

You had a guy sitting in his house with his girl and someone knocks on his door. He sure as hell was not expecting the police.

Fuck that cop, and fuck you. You boot licking, cock sucking, dog ball sack.

Pretty much all of this, the dead guy did nothing illegal and died for it.

I guess if a hunter gets pulled over on the way back from a hunt and the cop sees a rifle in the vehicle it’s justification to shoot the driver?

You act like the dude was just standing there complying. No cop is going to shoot a guy just for having a rifle in his truck when he's pulled over. If all that matters in life is not breaking the law then life would be pretty easy. I'm sad for the guy and his family, but he was stupid and got shot because of it. What he did at any point in his life before the moment he opened that door while holding a pistol behind his back doesn't matter at that moment. If you were delivering a pizza and that exact thing happened, are you just going to stand there like nothing could happen? What if I'm the pizza guy and put my hand on my CC during the interaction and the dude just decides to shoot me? Legal shoot, right? I was going for my gun? You can play thought experiments all you want but the fact is the guy fucked up. He was an irresponsible gun owner at a minimum and he does not represent me or my right to bear arms.

A non-cop walking by would not have been banging on his door therefore he probably would not have even opened the door...

So he knew it was a cop. Stupid games, stupid prizes. The cops would not have shot him if he didn't waltz out the door like an all-powerful **** holding his pistol behind his back.

Being an all-powerful **** with a pistol doesn't matter. What matters is he didn't point the gun at them, didn't brandish it in a threatening manner. The cops over-reacted and killed him.
