Future of KOH 4400 chassis/car development?

Pretty cool though, you bet they’d get one on the podium and they certainly did. That thing did 170 miles. For the couch jockeys that have never put tires on those rocks, the camera does all of it no justice. The shit that thing just did on 35’s is CRAZY.

I know we’re taking the easy way on some of the trails now but some of the trails there is no easy way.

I’m still thinking a little mini UFO built for 37’s could be the move, bridge the gap between the spindly little SXS and the brute simplicity of the U4 car. Some hotrod turbo 4 cyl, auto trans, SCS t-case, no more than 80 inches wide to the outside of the tires. Hit the 3000 pound min limit and real 37’s.
This.

I ran the OG KOH race course with 5 of us last year, we kept together as a group so that did slow us down, we did stop to eat too but it took us 8 hours and we’re all on 40in + tires. Seeing what he did in plus a desert lap and another rock lap is nuts. His rig capability and driving capability is next level. I still put driving level above rig capability. When comparing the 4800 average guy to 4900 average guy I think there’s still a gap

Tensor 37's.

Also saw that Loren got in with in the Fireguys truck. Probably whey the steering let go. It was not his weekend.

I think you are probably right...Especially with the live valve where you don't need so much roll-over width. All this big gear stuff is sucking HP/lb. 40 spline restricts turning ...but more importantly...setting up ride height in "droop." Dyn0a wheel testing is seeing 40%. It used to be 30%. Some thinking is due.

Today was not a race of fast like so many want to tune for....but driving and attrition of the fast. All that drowned out flat tire whining.
The fast were killing the winners.....until....

I heard the word "Mechanical Sympathy"

For the “Mechanical Sympathy” comment, you mean to finish first, first you must finish :lmao:

The Can-Am was on 37s per the rules for 4400.

I like the mini UFO idea and think that's where the future of front running 4400 cars will go.

My bad, and I even know that :homer:

We gotta get them to start losing weight. I heard someone say today that the Gomez cars are weighing 5800 ish pounds in full dress with the driver in it. Bailey Campbell’s car weighs 6315 ish same full dress driver co driver and 80 gallons of fuel. Clearly a 3000 pound car with a smaller footprint has some advantage. And this year we hit zero lakebeds so the ability to go 120 mph wasn’t put into use even for the fleeting seconds they usually get.

Awesome insight.

After today, I feel like one of the changes to 4400’s will be better winches…although realistically no one will change anything and/or test their winch before they need it during the race. :lmao:
Just like overlanders.:lmao::homer:

Bolt on this anchor called a winch, then never bother to test/train how to use it.:homer:

Cade Rodds winch line being fucked like 2ft out was total amature hour shit. Part of race prep should be unspooling the line and respooling it loosely so it's not pinched and won't come out. And the freespool not working is unacceptable....

Yes, 3,000 pounds

Oh? And the Can Am meets that?

The UFO cars are my favorite..... Probably because they look like big SxS's. Joe Thompson did a hell of a job designing and building those cars. :smokin:

While they do have podiums I'm not a fan of them in the rocks. They are erratic when the tires get in the air, but that's probably just me.

A slightly smaller Bomber/Twisted/Miller car would my choice. Like the RockBug.

I think the days of solid axle cars running up front in 4400 are numbered if not already over.

I think the solid axle guys need to step up to the level of the IFS guys. Single seat, mid engine, fancy computer shocks, etc. With the current race of bypasses, the tried and proven method of fabricated ford 9s and front engines front engines will probably never get first again, unless all of the top ifs cars break.

I do wonder how much long solid rear will reign king.
