Fasting - Who does it?

you need a caloric deficit to lose weight.

restriction is the way you get caloric deficit
  • time restriction aka fasting since you can only eat some many calories in one sitting
  • food type restriction aka eating filling low calories things, veggies, salads, etc
  • portion control aka eat small amounts of what you want to keep you happy

i am focusing on the last one since its the easiest for me to do and gives the most flexibility.

This is the hardest part for me, especially if I'm around the house.

make a decree about what the wife is allowed to buy, eliminate the junk. the entire house wins

also get something to snack on that fits into the goals.

Much of it has to do with what you eat and how those things interact with your body and each other. I am now eating a high fat (very) low carbohydrate diet, probably more calories than I was eating before, and I'm losing weight.

I just started almost 3 weeks ago. Stepped on the scale at the doctors about a month ago and was 241 (fully clothed with boots on).
First thought was “I’m not a heavyweight, this isn’t okay”
First “real” weigh in was 237. I’m 6’4 for reference
Was down to 229 on Monday
Cut out junk food and I’m doing somewhere between 16-17 hours fasting.

I'm 170 fully clothed and boots, but I'm also 6" shorter than you .

I usually start feeling sick if I don't eat.
I got busy today and haven't ate since last night. Got sweats, spins, nausea. "Threw up" twice. Was just water, stomach acid and snot.

Pushed through it, wasn't in the mood to waste time on food.

I weigh within 10lbs I did in high school so dunno.

You might have the diabeetus :flipoff2:

It's way easier to fast if you're already in a low carb/keto diet.

Probably. I'd be fine with a pill that makes cooking/ eating a 5 second thing. Hate wasting time on food.

I need to stop giving in to temptation. My goal was to be able to see my belt buckle past my stomach if I looked down, now it's blocked by my rib cage :homer:.

Try some probiotics and supplements. I think I've posted about them before. I'm almost at the 48 hour mark and I feel fine.

Just broke a 24 hour fast. Need to get back on regular fasting again. My body responds really well to it. My wife and I have historically done a week of 24 hour fasts alternating with a week of regular eating. Not sure if we will continue this or switch it up. I usually do not exceed 36 hours at a time with the rare venture to 48 hours.

Hunger over come by boredom and trying to find something that tastes good.

get a few health items that scratch that itch
  • proteins bars
  • dark chocolate 75% min, 2 or 3 squares is under 200 calories and doesnt have a lot of sugar
  • fruit
  • beef jerky, left over meats
  • wrap some cheese in lunch meat
  • do pushups instead of eating

my body revolts and i start getting explosive diarrhea around the 16hr mark. getting that deep into the day without food is never planned, but when it does its rumble guts

There is dirty food?

No fucking way I'm spending that much time to make food. I'm not a cook and have zero interest in being one.
5 mins or less.

There is dirty food?

clean food is consider fresh with no processing - meat that you cooked, fresh veggies, fruits, etc. generally speaking if it comes from a package or can its considered 'dirty'.

I started doing this about a month ago because of this thread and am really liking it so far. Typically I am doing a 18/6 fast daily with some weekend days having a shortened fasting window due to some family bbqs etc. Cut out breads but do have the occasional wrap but mainly its meat and veggies. Also went from drinking beer often to barely at all. Down 12 pounds so far

I am not fasting per se. But I am changing my relationship with food. Always eaten fairly clean, but more so now. No junk, cut sugar, more protein and I eat less. Also eat a lot slower and that has helped me with portions.

Probably 15 Lbs. down. Feel so much better and not full all the time.

I have experimented with pseudo fasting during time off at work and it does work.

For me, I do a lot of thinking about what food is for, and my relationship with it. I keep telling myself it is fuel....

Bringing back an old thread so as not to create a new one.

Never fasted in my life, not once for real anyway. Been off my preferred diet because of hanging out with family a lot. People who love me feed me stuff I’d never eat on my own. Like homemade bread and sweets.

Well, Easter I got sick off of something at a family potluck. No shits, no puking just messed up my guts for a week. I did a 48 hour water only fast to clear the pipes out. I knew it’d suck and I’d hate it. It did and I did, but pushed through. Wondered what I would crave. Pleasantly surprised that I only crave protein. Not carbs, not sugar. I had dreams about buffalo wings and my ghost pepper black beans and meat chili. Going back to my carnivore ways if I can keep away from mom’s and grandmas cookies cakes and homemade bread.
