Fasting - Who does it?

On the same scale at Biolife today, I'm back to 194. Kinda difficult to fast on Tuesdays and Thursdays because I have to eat before I donate on those days and I still eat dinner with my family.

Wife does. I read a book she suggested and am trying. It’s interesting AF how less hungry I am overall…

Tomorrow I’ll shoot for another 24hr. Exception being coffee with milk. Pulled 24hrs on Monday which was easy peasy. Moving around helps… sitting at a desk all day I snack

The author of the book “fast. Feast. Repeat.” Talks about what causes insulin reactions in the body and the concept of “clean fast.”

Bottom line (and im still learning), anything that causes an insulin reaction hurts the fast… milk, in your example.

She even goes into detail about chewing gum causing insulin reactions.

Sections of the book are horrible (on audible,) but worth checking out.

Per the book… black coffee (anything bitter) is okay.

What people put in coffee isn’t.

At lest you get a cup.. wife sketched is to decaf.

Well I went a full 24 hours, ate a salad with chicken on it and am not hungry at all. I'm really surprised because about this time at night I'm normally getting into a bowl of ice cream and it doesn't even interest me right now. I would have never believed it. Plan is to not eat again till tomorrow night for dinner.

If you have read my thread about my son going into the Marine Corps, you would know that the day my kid left for boot-camp at the end of September, I weighed in at 275. (I was in the 280s over the summer)

While he was going through those 14 weeks of hell, I decided to do my own boot-camp and drop the weight. All I did at first was cut my carbs to less than 20 grams a day, and I averaged a loss of about a pound every other day.

I was in the 240s by Lance's Hall of Fame Induction in November, and at 235 at Logan's boot-camp graduation.

I creep back up a little over the holidays, but then managed to stay in the low 230s through Feb,

I needed to break the plateau: so for March, I am doing alternate day fasting. Basically eating one day (still not eating carbs), and then fasting for 36 hours.

My 1st fast was on March 1st, and I was really surprised that I was not hungry at all. Today is my 4th day, and I have broken the 230 barrier. Weighed in at 226 pounds.

It is way easier than I expected and my head kind of clears up on those fasting days. So much so that I kind of look FORWARD to days like today.

My goal is to get to 220 by the 31st and do this alternate day fasting all month.

I usually find once I get past the initial "I'm hungry" phase, I forget about it.

Been many days I've only realized I never ate anything until I got home and was going to bed.

Human body is weird like that, and know exactly what you mean in terms of the stages of hunger (initially, then not too bad, then forget about it).

Only thing I would offer to you is that as your body weight reduces, so does your daily caloric need. Not expending as much energy moving the former extra weight you had, so if activity levels remain relatively the same, you won't expend as much energy, and need less calories as a result.

I don't view fasting as much of a fad diet like Keto is, but they all ultimately do the same: Take in less calories than you burn and you lose weight. I do think there's something to fasting in terms of resetting your body because fasting eliminates the possibility of eating junk food that is unfulfilling, yet filled with calories - leading you to sugar highs, crashes, and wanting to eat more empty calories. It's weird how going 'clean' (in this case, just fasting) resets the body as much as it does.

Lift some heavy shit to help keep the muscle you are losing on. So you dont gain it back easier than before

382 day fast. Guy lost almost 280 lbs in fat.

I've been keto for over a year, it's a way of eating, not a diet. Doing PSMF for a few days at a time, then up the cals with more fat for a day, then a few PSMF's. I did this a few times and I really lost the weight on those days. I've still got 30 lbs or so to lose, and I've been comfortable and not gaining anything, but it's time to get serious again. I've done a few 5 day fasts and after the first day it's surprisingly easy, and the weight seems to stay off. I've read various things stating that 1-3 days of fasting is great in every day, but possibly beyond 3 days you start dipping into lean mass. But others state that if you have a lot of bodyfat to lose then more than 3 days isn't an issue. I don't know, it's hard to go more than 5 days just due to social situations. Sitting at someone's birthday stating at the lasagna and cake wondering what to do. I'm fine skipping, but others have a hard time with it and think something is wrong. Yeah, I'm fat, that's what's wrong.

After a day or so I start feeling like shit and get shakes.

Started 16/8s this week. Use an app.

I'm not sure exactly what my length is though as I will go 16-20hrs, eat a meal and restart the "start fast" counter. So I eat for maybe 30min?

Anywho I am 5-10 approx 210 looking for 180...Will see what that looks like.

Doing kettlebells/body weight exercises nightly as well.

I have always had a weird goal set I wanted to do, but the ex was against me "getting skinny" so she was against me improving on them.

My goals:
Run a mile without stopping
Be able to do 10 pull-ups (or better)

No real reason why, I don't plan to join any marathons persay.

Bought running shoes Thursday. My last leg day kicked my ass, Friday I could barely walk around work after sitting so hopefully will pick up running in the morning before work starting Monday.

So far, I have seen gains quick.

When I started this, I could do 3/4 of a pull up. Now I can do 2.
3 Sets of 5 push-ups at the start was a struggle. Doing 3 sets of 10 is easy peazy.

I started in mid February simply not eating after 8 at night till 5 or so the next day. So 20-21 hours of not eating, eat dinner and possibly a small snack while watching tv before 8. I dropped 18-20 pounds in a couple months. From there I have stagnated because I cheat too often. I don't attempt to do it every day but probably do 2-4 days a week. The problem is that when I cheat (and I admit it's cheating) I don't lose weight and even gain some weight back. Then I have to play catch up. I have breakfast every Tuesday with my older brother and 95 year old dad which kills that day. But it's worth it.

It's not rocket science. It's simply calories in vs calories out. But for me it works because I am a grazer. If I start to eat "just a little", I will continue to eat. Sweets and carbs are the worst for me. Thank God I'm not affected by alcohol that way.

I haven't been below 240 since 2016. I was up to 256 around Christmas. I've been bouncing 237-239 for several weeks. Time to get back at it and lose some more.

I started after I had to have my first colonoscopy. I figured it I could do it when I had to I could do it when I wanted to. My fast day is Tuesday, last meal is Monday dinner and then. next meal is Wednesday breakfast. Not done for any weight loss reasons, just to test myself I guess:confused:

I e done it for years, as I've never been much of a breakfast person (love breakfast foods, just not big on eating early in the morning). When I focus on good food, I can drop weight pretty quick. I'm down 35ish so far this year, was down 43ish but progress slowed and gained some back. But I'm getting back to watching food again and trying to get consistent in the gym. When it cools down, add in some outdoor exercise.

I'm currently sitting at 262, next goal is 245, ultimate goal is 200.

Nothing happened. I quit months ago.

My guesses.

The clarity of thought it probably what happens to hungry hunter gather’s because instinct says, get focused and locate food.

It’s good to have focused daily goals, this is just that for many.

I eat well and think working out is better for me than not feeding my body.

Just like different diets, it works for some but not all.

It wasn’t that hard to do and 15-9 was easy. 16-8 wasn’t bad

I stopped as well after going to a natural path who has me taking vitamins, some 3 times a day. The weight has stayed off but I do need to limit intake if I really want to get where I want to be
