Fasting - Who does it?

What do you do for work? I'm at least on my feet, but probably shoveling, throwing pipes around and carrying 50lb sacks of mud for 8+ hours.
Yesterday was 12 hr fasting, broken with a poptart 1 pickle and a handful of grapes. (Except for the 48oz of coffee and the 12oz redbull for breakfast)

Because I still have a gut lol, that's all that I'm trying to get rid of.
I sell insurance now lol, but am pretty active outside work. I'm 6' tall though so 180 is about right for me. If I get below 175 I look sickly.

For sure, without a doubt. It's far more difficult to eat 2,000 calories of chicken breast than 2,000 calories of cheese cake. But he's correct. It's calories in, calories out, people just get married to whatever dieting system happens to work for them and think there's something special to it because it happens to work for them.

on principal i dont disagree, but i think the quality of the calories matters more than how many in the long run

If I were to get to 165, I'd look like Christian Bale off "The Machinist". Funny because about 15 years ago that was my regular size.

the swings in his physical appears in the time of his career are wild

Christian Bale's portrayal of emaciated insomniac Trevor Reznik in 2005 thriller The Machinist. To play Reznik, a factory worker riddled with psychological problems, Bale dropped four stone (25kg) in four months using an extremely calorie-sparse diet to ditch the weight from his previous role in 2000'sAmerican Psycho.

Christian Bale’s crazy body transformations over the years
by Men's Health UK

Across the four months of pre-production, Bale subsided on a diet of black coffee, one apple and a tin of tuna per day. Speaking to Esquire UK, Harley Street health expert Daniel O’Shaughnessy explains that "this is less than 200 calories per day, so it’s not healthy at all. An extreme diet like this will play havoc with your metabolism and cause a lot of stress on the body."

got an extended communte these days and ran out of my normal podcasts. fell down a nutrition rabbit hole

Finally got to the end of this thread.

I started OMAD, which is no problem for me at all. When I was in my late teens, I would often get so busy working on project cars that I wouldn't realize I hadn't eaten in almost two days until it hit me that I was actually hungry.

Wife had got us on mostly meat for dinners, but with the three meals a day and the sheer volume, I couldn't take it. We switch to veggie dinners and that wasn't all that great. Told her I was down to go back to meats, but not at so much volume. Doing rather well with this now.

I'm back to donating plasma and have to consume at least 25 grams of protein before I go. Just a couple eggs and some bacon seems to work well.

39, 5'10" and currently 194 fully dressed with my pockets full of crap. I'll be on the scale at Biolife again tomorrow morning and will see where I'm at.

Just a small dinner during OMAD makes me feel stuffed. Sure saves on food costs, too. Our boys still want carbs and sugars and I usually eat their leftovers, so gaining muscle back and getting rid of my gut might take a while.

February '23 marks 10 years of IF for me, I cut carbs and alcohol (I luv beers) in late December to see if it helped with my gut health and it has, plus some. I have definitely shaved a few extra lbs off and am working hard to get abdominal definition by my birthday.

Get your t-levels checked and keep it up all!!

100% back to eating once per day for coming up on 4 months. I get hungry in the evenings and eat a meal, or whatever once every 24 hrs, and nothing after 6pm. I feel the best this way.

I was 165 @ 21 when I got married. Now 66 years old, 6' and have been north of 230 for 30 years. Currently sitting at 253 buck naked. I need to do something and the more I read, fasting seems to make sense. Time to start. Wish me luck.
i bet upping your protein intake to 200g a day and weigh training will have a better impact on your shituation than fasting will. maintaining lean muscle mass should be your goal

Yeah you're wrong though. You can't effectively lose lots of fat and build muscle at the same time. All you should hope to do is minimize muscle loss and maximize fat loss at first. When you are down the road getting close to your goal weight you can start to do resistance training and probably change your diet to match. "Fasting" is too broad of a term. CICO is horseshit for people who are way overweight.

if he makes 200grams of protien the main macro @ 1500 calories while implementing resistance training he will loose weight and build muscle. 200 grams of protein in one dose is less than ideal. go listen to peter attia podcast i linked.

at his age the research shows lean muscle mass is one of the major markers on longevity.

Yet you say nothing about ketosis or carb intake for fat loss. I've listened to some of Peter's stuff. He trains bodybuilders, not fat guys.

the interview i linked is with a dude with a phd who spend most of his work studying protein synthesis. they discuss what im talking about.

in other interviews with layne norton, another phd who studied under that guy the run through senarios of cases and how they would approach it.

if CICO is the driver, then it shouldnt matter what the rest of the macros are as long as you hit that 200g mark. 200g of protein is a lot.

I'll look at your link tonight. Right now I'm on hour 19, day 1 and feeling good. I plan to eat a humble dinner tonight and then go for another 22-24 hours either tomorrow or later this week, depending on how I feel. Get a feel for how that is effecting me. (good or bad) I see many guys saying 18/6 works well, which would allow me a small lunch and then dinner. But am I better off to just get content with eating only one meal a day?

I'm totally new and naïve at this.

I don't have a plan, but I eat one time in 24 hrs. I was going to do the so many hrs thing, but I forgot. Once I got trained to not be hungry all the time, I would get busy and forget to eat. So I just make sure I eat once per day. Doesn't matter the time so long as it is before 6pm. I'm sure it is better to do it the other ways, but I'm not dead yet, so I've always done it this way, just because I have no set schedule or routine after work. Makes it easier to remember if I ate or not.

You can with drugs though!

Wife and I do never longer than 24...BUT its also with exercise and watching caloric intake at meals. Yea I know the 2 evil words in conjunction with fasts.

Failure to do all 3 is pretty much a guarantee for failure and/or issues from not meeting dietary requirements. IIRC one of the hassles is that the body "remembers" and stores additional fats so one can gain weight while fasting...

I’ve been starting to skip breakfast again and trying to eat cleaner. Need more veggies in my diet as they have minimal contribution to daily calories.

Small adjustments… just milk in my coffee. A lot of water…
