Dark twisted movies, looking for them

The ending in The Mist got me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Read through every post, watched trailers for every suggestion. Some stuff mentioned I’ve seen, some of it I own already. Some of them I thought I’ve seen before but haven’t. Some of them I’ve never heard of.

I’ve never seen a Serbian film. Never seen requiem for a dream. Doubt I’ll regret it and I’ll check them out.

we’ve got this store called “entertainmart” which is like a thrift store for used entertainment stuff. They sell the used Blu-ray movies from Redbox for $4 to $6 bucks a movie. They’ve also got video games books vhs and dvd’s. All cheap AF. You can trade stuff in. Box sets of stuff are $10 to $15 is all.

Just an FYI…a baby and a 6 or 7 year old boy are graphically raped in that movie. Those two scenes are what did it for me to never watch it again. When I say graphic…it’s graphic.

Semi de-rail, if you game check out Senua's Sacrifice. Single player story focused, no online requirement and it fits in well with the general theme of the thread.

Problem with a lot of them, mostly horrors, is they rely on shock value or gratuitous violence to deliver themselves while falling short on depth and writing done with care, effort, and intelligence. I prefer movies that make you rub two brain cells together while creeping you out with the idea of something, and making you guess forward.

Platform, awesome movie because of the concept it proposed.
Rob Zombie movies, totally stupid and a yawn if you're older than 12 and no longer squeamish.

While not really dark or horror, a recent movie we saw, Upgrade, was kinda creepy and pretty cool with it's delivery of a concept and the good/bad weigh ins behind it.

Looking forward to checking out some of these suggestions. Hopefully find a couple cool ones I can watch with the family as long as they lack sex and over the top gore, etc.

Exit Humanity.

Every other title I can think of is already listed in this thread.

Upgrade looks cool. Like gratuitous violence cool 😎

I hate to agree with her, but YotaUp is right IMO. Give me a good story and directing rather than just gratuitous violence and shock surprises to "scare" me when watching a movie.

I’m mostly dead inside and I watch zero tv. Movies are it, so shock me. I sift through a lot of dumb movies to get to the occasional good one.

Upgrade is a pretty cool movie. Dark-ish with lots of gratuitous violence
At least the main character didn't like the violence.
Was refreshing to see a movie stray from the constant copy script of guy losing a loved one and going on a warpath for revenge.
This dude wasn't wanting to go all out and kill them, but simply get them caught by cops. I liked that angle and how computer needed to take over to save him. Was pretty funny in that regard, too.

Skinny dude with long hair was the best seller in those, no doubt.
You can get porn anywhere these days so the chick is no longer the prize she was back when you relied on VHS.

So you want a twisted movie, eh?

I was going to post this. The original Korean not the remake. There is a fight scene in a hallway with a hammer that is cinematically amazing.

The director did a few other movies centered on vengeance that were pretty good too.

Few others that might be on the edge of the requested parameters, but fuckin great movies:

Hostiles
The Midnight Sky
65 (not great reviews, but I thought it was great)
Uncut Gems
The Peripheral (series)
There Will Be Blood
Monsters
