Carnage share thread

That’s a scoop of block and piston pieces out of my skid plate. Was a 2.3 ecoboost

This is the inside of a $30k PSI screw blower off the guy I work with top fuel engine. The way the rotors are made blows ours and everyone who has seen these pictures minds. There literally has to be several thousand slivers of metal making up the male and female rotor and they ALL have to be slightly different to form the twist. According to PSI those pieces are all "laminated" and then the rotors are Teflon coated. Unfortunately they also come un-laminated and destroy themselves......

Any idea why they would build them this way instead of using a 5 or 6 axis CNC to carve the male and female rotors out of solid cylinder of metal? In my brain it sure sounds like it would be a million times easier that way.
Hollow lobes is the only reason I can see for doing that. They still need machining on the entire outer surface. 3D printing would make a much better part. Buy now the cost has probably come down enough to make that an option.

Hollow lobes would make sense for a top fuel car, they look to cut rotational weight all they can.

Fun fact: They spin roots blowers 33% overdriven to make 70lbs of boost. Those screw blowers have to be run 113% over to make the same boost at the same RPM yet its somehow more efficient. Look at the blower pulley on any screw blower and it's barely bigger than the starter drive while the crank pulley looks the size of a 15" wheel.

What rpm does a top fuel engine turn?

On a 4 second run, the engine will make about 650 revolutions during the run.

9 to 10k RPM.

Damn that's some serious rotor rpm.

Got a link to that?
Fast forward almost to the end of the video if you just want to see and hear the finish. I drown it at 5:00 so start at 4:59. It’s the whole race though,

Edit: apparently I can’t link to Facebook. If you don’t do FB, sucks to suck :flipoff2:

Was this the hydrolock at Disney?

Thing sounded angry AF coming across the line!

I was surprised it got across. Good job getting it across. It sounded like if you were 2 seconds slower you would not have made it.
I think 2 seconds was accurate. They were waving me toward the podium but where it stalled out wasn’t because I shut it off. That’s where it seized up solid. It won’t turn over now with the main’s unbolted. One rod is welded so solid to the crank the rod bolts won’t budge.

impressive destruction

I lost a Dana 60 35 spline 300M outer shaft while trying to figure out the left line at Disney.
Oh noooo 40sp are overkill and everyone should use stock 1550 ford shafts :lmao:

Good break :smokin:
