Carnage share thread

🤣 my brother said Mick hit the hole at the end of the rocks just right to pogo stick one side and it came down sideways hard enough to break all that once.
I saw his post. I hope someone caught that on video.

Toyota axle shaft, sans splines.

How did that happen? I've never seen anything like that. Swingarm does look kinda rough.
The '08 300 XCW I bought was sold to a buddy because the PO broke the swingarm.
Not sure how he did it.

417 and 4619 carnage from the Ultra4 live feed show highlights and Miles' commentary.

My brain does not compute the speed required to break both shafts and rotors, with 100hp.
While the single event was a pretty sizeable impact, I would say having raced the truck for the better part of 2-3 years was a factor. That truck takes some pretty good impact events throughout a race, especially a rocky or higher speed race. Remember it doesn't have the newest technology to help lessen the impact. It reaches it's limits relatively quickly compared to the higher travel, more modern vehicles.

If I had to guess, he probably lost the driver rear wheel first from the rocks/fatigue, then it shot the truck up in the air and landed on the passenger side which then hit the ejecto seato cuz button.

Been messaging back and forth with Justin Barth (#417). He said the car is pretty torn up and most of the parts are trashed. He plans on taking it back to Jimmys4x4 to be put on the chassis jig to see how tweaked it is or isn't before deciding whether to rebuild the current one or not.

Just tell him to go ahead and get it converted to 4400...:stirthepot:

And I was whining about snapping off my chain guide a few weeks back

Strange, because you don't really see dirt bikes having major breakages like a swingarm. Hell, they get raced all the way up to the national level all the time and you don't see it.

Depends on usage and level of maintenance like anything really. I know a dude who put a hole in the side of his swingarm and was starting to see cracks propagating afterward. Rocks and enduro stuff can have different consequences than a national motox race. Especially if the rider doesn't notice the crack starting to spread

Second look, where did the axle go?
I assume this is in the shop starting disassembly, axle may have been removed right before teh phot was taken for this bitchin carnage shot :smokin:

Broke a Toyota 8” Detroit locker. Eaton doesn’t sell replacement parts. Probably going to get a Yukon Grizzly this time around for the warranty

Same way mine failed in the rock assault axle

Because it's a casting and the inner core needs to be supported somehow. They all have 1 on each side.

Edit, just went over and took a pic of mine.
I think he's talking about what looks like a threaded hole in the bottom of the arm, not the big hole on the side with the rubber plug.

You can see the other half of the rubber plug, still in the hole

Right. But the small hole in the bottom is where the stress riser is and that is where the crack is going to start. This is the same reason you are not supposed to weld on the top or bottom flanges of a frame rail.
