What's new

“Brophy Jeep” Street Legal Ultra4 4500 class CJ6

You shouldn't have sold yours you fool! :flipoff2:

Probably. He's a member of Mass Crawlers and the old Summit Crawlers/Trailers Slayers crew. He also wheels a tube chassis purple (silver now) jeep buggy that he picked up a few years ago. You probably know who's old buggy it was, I think it came from up your way.
I know. I got tired of it and impulsed sold it too cheap. Should have mothballed it for a bit, then got back into it. I did have fun racing the stupid bro-lite though.

Edit: I was also a member of Summit.

That one was an 06 with 14K miles on it when I started cutting it up. Its nice working on stuff that's not all beat to shit before the customer brings it to you. :smokin:

I built a Samurai with a 3/4 link on 35s for another guy before I built that LJ. This was the rig I used to proof of concept the 3/4 link ideas I used on the LJ and as you can see in the second picture it crawled well and had no weird handling issues even though it didn't have sway bars. :smokin:

It was cool but waaay to small for someone my size to wheel it comfortably but the owner fit in it like a glove.
I had a sammi buggy for a bit before the jeep. Stupid light on sticky BFG

This was such a great rig. 16V 1.8L auto rock block to GSR case. Mini truck axles 5.71:1 spool rear Detroit front with Longs
3/4 link air shock 37” BFG stickies!
I put the bigger fuel cell and added gear and cooler racks that was it. It could go for days on the 20gal fuel cell lol.

Hahahahhahahahaha a little of both! lol it’s called character development!! It makes the story better! Hahahaha :flipoff2:

No updates on the Jeep for now. I also quite social media for a while so this is my outlet. :flipoff2:

The guys are working on the rear tub and bumper right now and I should have some updates Friday probably.

The rear upper links are heat treated 1.75” X .120” 4130 chromoly. I notched the tube so that the weld had more surface area. They are also plug welded too. Figured they would be strong enough. 🤷🏼‍♂️

These were welded by me.

So I had an idea to build a hybrid spare tire carrier. Something that was decently high clearance. But I can flip out of the way. It would be able to flip all the way down to use the tailgate. It would have a hub centric extension and strapped in. With a bar at the bottom to protect the tire from nerfing.

I did very similar on the LJ and Samurai but because I used a Trail Tough bed kit on the Samurai that eliminated the tail gate, that one didn't fold down. Both were removable for street duty and both barely got used. 99% of the time (unless racing) you won't want the spare.

I had planned on some “ultimate adventure” type wheeling trips. Where I live there are a hand full of trails that run the sierras.
Start
Slick rock trail
Deer valley trail
Strawberry trail or Barrett lake trail.
Rubicon loon to Tahoe.
Fordyce eagle lakes to meadow lake.
Home.

But typically you are right. Leave the spare at the trailer.

Mine are not HT and they are holding just fine.
I promise they've been beat on :homer:
You won't have any issues.

Back in 2013 I actual got to do a lot of work on the 2013 ultimate adventure superduty. I did the majority of the welding on it. All the suspension and rear bumper, frame sectioning etc. I worked on it after hours of my normal job. I even got to drive the superduty on cliffhanger and rusty nail in Moab that year!
That’s when I met after Williams (he has my old dog Baxter! lol )
So it’s been a dream of mine to participate in Ultimate adventure someday. Having the spare tire and fridge and room for tools and spares seem super overkill for a trail buggy but this isn’t that. lol

I loved that truck
It was like driving a lazy boy love seat!! lol it was buttery smooth on the road and with the weight, doubler and portals and sticky tires it was really capable. It drug a dead in the water CUCV on 42’s up Cadillac hill doing a wheelie almost the whole way!
Dirty nasty and tube sock! lol

I think you might regret having all that shit hanging that far out the back and that low, especially with your "high clearance" spare mount post unless your tires are going to stick out further. Otherwise, what you have there is a rock anchor that is going to hit a lot of shit climbing and decending steep stuff. I'd really reconsider that and tuck it all up tight to the body.

Put a fold up manlet step in the receiver hitch if you're too short to reach into the cooler.:flipoff2:

What’s done is done I’ll change it later if needed but for now forward progress. Won’t know until
It’s done and it won’t get done if I keep
Changing everything. The hitch is only 5” past the body It looks worse than it is. If it’s a problem I’ll fix it at this point I can fix small things like this in a weekend at a buddies shop. It’s not even a critical part at this point. It’s gonna get the fuel cell before bumper anyways.
