What's new

Anyone use a Garden Tractor loader?

Yeah I saw that one also
There was a hydrostat john deere in that price range too. I see it is gone now. That probably was the best deal. But I am cheap. LOL

Don't mean to knock any other brand of tractor but there is a reason some brands bring a premium, which I am sure you know all too well.

I cannot get factory parts for this Ford/new Holland thing. But a john deere that is even 20 years older they are still making parts for. Same with kubota.

Thought my dad was going to disown me when I told him I bought a new holland. I think he had a heart attack but he is recovering well.

I thought I was going to have to make some kind of brace, guide for the shifter, I guess not LOL, maybe just a hole with an indicator.

Why do you think that?

And IH, Case IH, Kubota, Ford the list goes on.

Green brings a premium because they have a cult following. Literally anyone who barely even knows what a tractor looks like, thinks all tractors are made by JD.

Believe me, they aren't as great and grand as you think. Just try to buy a service manual for one, or get repair information on one. They don't like to give the info out. And parts for those old machines: Yeah, they still sell them.... if you can afford to buy the parts.

Check eBay for parts. I used to have a 3 cyl Ford tractor. That is where I bought the few parts I needed. New Holland still had many available. Also if you can figure out what other jap tractors share the same parts you can find parts easier. For instance my ford tractor needed an alternator. $450 new from NH. I found the same one was used in Kubota small diesels. Bought a new OEM Kubota take off from eBay for $60. Fit perfectly.

I checked ebay and parts dealers online before I bought it. The majority of the stuff I would need to make this machine factory is not available. My only chance would be finding someone parting out a tractor.

The muffler was available through the dealer at $718.

When reading about these tractors before I purchased it, in online forums and FB groups I joined that was the one single biggest complaint. No factory parts available.

Sure you can get a radiator cap, but not the radiator. You can get the fuel cap, but not the rubber drain pan around it.

So I should say, you can't get the important parts.

I can walk into john deere dealer today and order pretty much anything for a 1959 John deere 430

Actually all the parts you’re talking about are made aftermarket. They’re easy to get. Radiator, wiring, mufflers, alternators. Those are common issue parts. Hard to find stuff is inside. Maybe some of the axle components, ect. No reason for a dealer to keep those parts in production.

And no, you can’t walk into a Deere dealer and get any and every part for a 430. I did 25 years in that industry. You aren’t going to tell me anything I don’t know, that’s why I’m trying to give you real advice. Deere sucks. They’re green tractors. Nothing any more special about them than a red, orange or blue one. They bend you over at the parts counter harder than any other OEM. Be glad you’re working on a Ford.

I’ll try and keep an eye on this thread to see if you can’t find parts and try and help.

As a note, a lot of these early small tractors are just rebranded machines from Europe or Asia. Even green ones. Some parts aren’t available because the OEM didn’t actually build them. They just put their name on them.

Go to a Deere dealer and try to get parts for a 400 garden tractor. Or a 317. Last I worked on a 55 series compact tractor there were some parts I couldn’t get from mother Deere. They can’t keep everything available forever.

Poorly modified. I’d cut that off and redo it.
Ever inch you move that bucket forward, it changes geometry and bucket force.

Cut the old mount off the bucket and weld the plate directly to it.
Bucket does not have a flat back and to weld it to the quick change plate you had to leave a bit of the old bracket on it.

I am keeping an eye out for a decent replacement bucket and some forks, so probably won;t be on there for long...

Doesn’t have a flat spot? Because it’s been beat to hell? If so I understand that. But still could have gotten it a lot closer than that.

No, the entire bucket back is curved. There are no flat spots to weld to.

Not a lot of room to get rod in there if you make it closer...
Are the original mounts cut in a curve? They don’t look like it in the picture.

Butt the mount up to the curve and use a filler. Or cut the mounts off straight and weld to them. You lose a lot more bucket and lift force with every inch further forward the load is, not to mention dump height.

Tires on, loader off.

got the valve cover pulled and cleaned out. intake pulled and cleaned out. Yay I don't have to pull the head. Found a blade on the fan melted.

Fuel return line was rotten, not melted. So small victory, I had a brand new one from a 6.2 diesel laying in my tool box for 25 years I finally got to use.

I unhooked all the power to everything except the main battery cable to the starter. I still want to drop the oil. Then i am ready to try and crank it up.
Probably take the fan belt off so I don't create problems with the bad fan blade.

Yeah, it looks totally fine with the big mouse nest in the rocker galley. It will be fine. Just fire it up and run it.

You drain the rear end? Check it for water?
You know what a hydraulic pump is? That it runs when the engine runs. They love water. It’s great for hydraulic systems.

You need to slow way TF down and get some more done before “firing it up”. You got a lot more stuff to do first.

But hey, it’s your tractor. Fire it up. :mad3:

You doing ok at home IHman? A long time ago I was dating this chick who had a roommate with a much better rack than her. So one day I was over at their apartment trying to strategize how I could go about upgrading to the roommate, which I never managed to pull off. Anyway, trying to gain some insight I picked up a text book that was on the coffee table, turns out the one with the good high beams was a psychology major. Or maybe psychiatry. I never can remember which is which. So I pick up this text book and flip through it thinking I’ll impress this chick somehow and maybe she’ll be overcome with lust or something. And I read about people who seek validation by trying to demonstrate their superior knowledge and intellect over random people. As fate would have it, these people are commonly considered to be assholes. However, according to this textbook sitting on this chicks coffee table back sometime around aught-three or four, a lot of these assholes only act the way they do because of dissatisfaction in their personal lives. Like if they grew up with a sibling that was smarter and more likable than they were, so their parents just ignored the asshole kid. Or if they’ve got a wife that just ignores them and spends money on stupid shit and the asshole has to listen to his wife and mother in law talk about how she should have married some other more successful guy instead of the asshole. Stuff like that. So these assholes would just go around trying to prove their superiority in whatever aspect of their life they thought they could as a way of compensating for all the failure and disappointment in their personal lives.

Anyway. IHman. We can’t help but notice, because you won’t let us ignore, what an asshole you are about your belief that nobody but you has ever touched a piece of equipment before. And because of that chick with the good highbeams twenty years ago, I am able to recognize this as a cry for help. A cry for help that probably went unnoticed back when you just metaphorically rubbed your nuts all over snowplow guys. But here at the IBB we care about people and their problems. So, IHman, tell us what’s wrong. We are here to listen.

TLDR

I’m just an asshole. Period. People as a whole are just stupid. Kind of like typing a page response to look brilliant, but not discussing the topic at all. You’re just being an idiot.

Ended up here because VS sucks.

Like me, don’t like me, don’t give two fucks either way.

Interesting. That may explain why a lot of people here act the way they do. Or maybe they are just assholes. Or both.

Pics of roommate with the nice high beams. :flipoff2:

But you do though which is why you keep trying to validate your "superior" opinions.
No I don’t.
I keep commenting to give advice/opinion.
I have over $100k in tools. I proved myself already. I couldn’t give a shit whether someone on the internet thinks I’m an asshole, ignorant, whatever. I don’t need the internet people’s “help” to fix my stuff. I just walk out to the shed and fix it.

I don't think you are an asshole. Definitely an idiot though who maybe shouldn't be passing on mechanical advice. But id say the same of anyone who thinks IH made decent trucks or equipment:laughing:

I’m sure you base that on your years of experience working on all kinds of things. :homer:

Not everyone knows what’s good. Some people drive Ford and use John Deere.

Well i did work for international and grew up farming and working on dump trucks but sure whatever you say captain superior opinion. :flipoff2: Also it is funny you should pick on ford since one of fords least reliable moments in history came from..... IH.

Fuck all that, disconect the altenator, grab what junk out of the intake you can with your hand, and start cranking it while spraying wd40 down the hole. Find out if it has a chance of maybe running before dumping all the effort into it

Sure, and ruin the hydraulic pump and mix water in the system.

I guarantee it will run. That fire didn’t hurt that engine. If it doesn’t run, it’s not due to the fire.
