What's new

2002 TuRD

Went wheeling this weekend, was supposed to go to Golden mountain in TN but they closed the park on Tuesday, in advance of the remmanats of a hurricane that was forecasted to dump winds and rain all over TN starting on Friday. So we all wanted to go wheeling, so we picked AOP in TN and said f it, if it rains it rains, it rains there all the time anyway. Well it rained for a total of 10mins at like 2am on Friday, then nothing:smokin:. This was seriously the dryest I have ever wheeled that park. Truck did fine, all had fun!

Couple of bitch lines with a dumbass "spotter" :flipoff2:

Seriously though... Beautiful terrain..

I think if you fully committed you wouldn't have had to pull cable.. The truck works well.

Yea I thought I was further right than I was. That under cut is like 40"+ deep and taller than the truck and I was worried I was going to bind up and break something. After seeing the middle video I called myself a dumbass:laughing:, as an added bonus that's where I wasted my tailight:lmao:. The xj behind me was further right and made it by sliding his axle tube right up the edge of the slab and bounced up, didn't dawn on me to slide the axle up it. This is the line I should have been on:

Yup. You have wheelbase on him as well.

Whatever, we can all be armchair 'wheelers...

Random questions, what’s your wheel base and does your cab have suicide half doors in the back?

Your shit is looking crinkled. :smokin: At what point in your journey was like, eh fuck it or do you still really try to keep damage minimal?

You're a conservative driver parts wise but how about the body?

Toyotas are made to be wrinkled up!! I gave up on keeping the body looking nice around 2008:laughing:. I wheeled almost exclusively in the southeast, so it's nothing but trees, embankments and rocks, so body damage is kind of a given. I can be conservative, but also will flog it. I should have a good video coming after wheeling today of me testing the camp ground third member swap and repair:lmao:

Yes. I'm debating even trying to kinda straighten out my shit before my next big run here in a couple weeks. My shits a little more crinkled than yours though...

Flatbeds have their place if done correctly with a purpose in mind.

Are you happy with the “ext” cab or whatever they call it or do you wish you had a single cab?
I want a single cab because I think they are cool, but I know practicality wise they would be annoying. I like the extended cab!

Size wise, I've always thought the 2nd gen pick up extra cab was perfect. Big enough to throw some shit back there and scoot the seat back, but not so big you end up with a ginormous wheelbase.

There is more room behind the bench seat than I expected... But I'm also under 6' tall.

You gotta really dial in a 2nd gen esthetically speaking. It can look good.... but I love 1st/3rd's.

I'll have another 1sty at some point in my life. Has so much character and simplicity.

Having said all of that. I'd never go back to a single cab (or without AC) for something I'd drive on a regular basis.

Trip report: Just got home from wheeling at hawk pride. I have not touched the truck, besides fixing a broken side mirror and tailight, since my prior trip to AOP a month ago. I didn't even unpack it really, lol. So the park is 8hrs from my house and the first fuel stop I see some spatters of gear lube. I assume it's the tcases venting as I was running pretty fast for the first hour. So once I got to the next town after the fuel stop (45min drive), I stopped at an auto zone and the back of the leafs are now coated in gear lube and some of the rear bumper, fawk. So I buy some gear lube and continue on through Chattanooga, and stop at a rest area on the other side of the city, at this point the third is now coated, and I see it's pissing gear lube out of the pinion seal. So I filled up the geat lube, and got 1/2qt in. Oh the diff is also full of metal shavings. So I give my friends a heads up that are at the park, that one of them has to stay sober in case they have to come get me off the side of the road:laughing:. The whole time my cases have been making noise, I assumed I had a bearing going out, well apparently I did, but it was the pinion and nothing in the cases. So I'm now thinking for the next 4hrs of driving, do I swap the pinion seal or the thirds?? So I make one last stop at an auto parts store and load up on gear lube and RTV, it's time to swap diffs!! My f/r diffs are interchangeable, I built them that way on purpose for this exact scenario. So I pull it up on a friend's trailer after getting to the park and get to wrenching:
