'05+ Ford Super Duty Dana 60 Axle Tech & Info

Are you guys finding that junkyard calipers are still usable?
I am finding most junkyard axles without calipers. They're required by the EPA to remove anything with leaky fluids... so they remove them and sell them as scrap or to rebuilders.

On the topic of rebuilding, I can’t remember if there was a consensus - genuine Ford unit bearings or eBay timkens or parts house? I probably am sticking to 8x170

Same question with ball joints, if not doing a delete setup, do parts house hold up or is it worth the money to go Motorcraft?

I wouldn’t consider anything but Motorcraft for my 21 250 daily, but this is a different situation for a crawler 1/2 the weight and 1/100th the road miles

I’ve heard the eBay Timkens aren’t real timkens. I stuck with rock auto timkens.

For ball joints I ran “blue boot” Napa premiums in my 44 had way better luck than spicer stuff. So went the same root for the lowers on my 60 but haven’t ran them. They seem to be the same quality as the 44 ones.

rock auto timkens.
This is the way!

I raced for years on 99-04 SD stuff and the Napa ones were the best value I found. I broke uppers a couple of times during crashes but they lived ok when I wasn’t fucking up

Only likely to continue with world wide COVID induced shortages in parts and new production being limited or halted by things like strikes. This "new normal" sucks fat cock.

I forget if this was discussed, can you run the 10” super 60 ring gear in a 250/350 housing?

Anything special needed or just bolt in and go? Are setup kit’s different or anything?

NOOB question here!! I bought a buggy that came with what the owner said is an 05+ HP 60 to swap in. The axle has leaf spring pads (factory), ball joint outers, a factory track bar and unit bearings.

My question is were all 05+ HP60's coil springs? (pretty sure the answer is yes!). In which case that would make my axle a 99-04 HP60 or HP50 correct?

Well aware. Just saying that if he hasn't checked it might be the 50. And IMHO, the 50 is still highly underrated and/or just eclipsed by the SD 05+

I didn't see 229 or 248 cast into the housing but I do see it on the corner of the tag in this picture(it was easier to read in person. Its 248 in the upper left corner of the tag). Safe to say its a Dana 60 correct?

1 5/16” socket, no bump on the housing and 248 cast all indicators of Dana 60.

Bumping since I didn't find this in the first post and ctrl+F didn't find anything pertaining to "max steering angle" or any derivative.

KP60 has about 38 degrees of steering in stock form with 1480 ujoints. What's the factory steering angle for an '05+ SD60 with 1480 and 1550 joints?

Obviously, aftermarket axles/1550 joints can get you to 50 degrees, but I'm trying to determine what kind of difference you gain (if any) in stock KP vs. stock '05+ SD60 in terms of angle with both size joints.

It's in here about 5 times by now.... it's the same about 38°
I apologize for my laziness....I searched the 1st page, didnt' want to search 34 more.

Hey CDA 455 II can we get this info added to the first post?

Damn, 38º? That's lame...but it solidifies that for one particular build I'm just keeping my KP.
