The skid steer thread

Dang... the 773 I had was not that tight... easy to get to.
somewhat difficult to get to mine, gotta flip the cab and dive in there with some little rolling foot prybars
the broken gauge sender however, that needs the power pack pulled and the hoses marked '92 are probably too crispy to remove without replacement :c

Now I'm thinking about it, I wonder if it is "submersion rated" fuel line, and I also wonder if you only need submersion rated fuel line for gasoline, or also for diesel?
ehhh yeah if there's a biodiesel blending mandate though nobody seems to make line that's entirely viton/fkm
I used the white/clear polypropylene line for my pickup line, for many in-tank lines both gas and diesel, even the liquid line diptube that's inside my propane tank is made outta that stuff

Not sure if I mentioned it in here or not, but on my New Holland L785 it had an electric pump that someone crappily put on there. I figured I'd swap back to the mechanical fuel pump and get rid of that ****. Wouldn't work. You could prime it by hand and it'd run for about 20-30 seconds and die. Finally figured out that sometime in the past someone had broken the alternator bracket off the aluminum timing cover, and pulled the cover in order to weld it back up. They lost a cam thrust button in the timing cover and when they put it back together the cam was able to slide backwards just enough so the cam follower on the lift pump would slip off the eccentric and not push back and forth. Pulled timing cover, made a new thrust button for the camshaft and it's been working flawlessly ever since. Real head scratcher there...

I ended up getting a decent little 553 for not much more than that non functional 863. I just don’t have the truck/trailer/land to warrant a bigger machine

bgaidan what are you seeing fresh off the boat SSQA auger kits going for at auction these days

One popped up for $1k on CL near me. Seems like they usually go $1500 on up with the eBay price of $2k shipped capping it.

The mini track hoe doesn't run yet but I'm wondering if I should pick up the $1k one just because of how cheap it is.

None of the recent auctions I've watched post sold prices so I can't see them, but I see several flippers on FB selling that exact set for $1-1.2k so I'm guessing they paid $6-800 for them.

Unless you want the skid steer attachment for some reason, I'd go with one of the ones actually made for the mini excavators. They should be much cheaper. Should be able to find these with an 8" and/or 12" for $500-ish.

Don't remember what kind of mini you'll be using, but if it's small enough, I recommend picking up one of these manual quick attaches for about $60....chop the ears off and weld on whatever ears or quick attach your machine uses....now you can run the cheap chinese attachments.

Noted. Thank you.

Dethmachine's old magnatrac crawler. SSQA (needs some corrective work to be standard since the PO built it into the bucket) on the front. Backhoe on the back. Low flow aux hydro like a typical old skid steer.

Do I gain much by putting the auger on the backhoe end?

Noted. Thank you.

Is it an excavator or a backhoe?

It's way easier to position an auger on a excavator/backhoe arm than a loader. You might get more down force from the loader, but you'll likely exceed one of the cheap auger motor's capacity on either end of the machine if you get stupid with it so I doubt that would matter.

Looking at some "universal" skid steer rims. They are reversible.

My New Holland uses 9/16 lug studs, and tapered lug nuts.

These new rims have about a 1" stud hole, and are "flat" so there's no taper for the nut cone to go into.

Is there inserts or adapters to make this work?

Pretty sure the center bore (6") fits.

IMO it's better on the dipper arm but if the auger is double swivel it will work fine on the loader bucket.

Nevermind.

I found the keys for my machine and was able to test fit one of these universal rims.

The hub pilot fits just fine (nice and tight) and the tapered nuts snuggle right into the oversized holes.

Bought the set. 12/16.5

They're Alpina brand (no-name alibaba specials). No idea how the rubber will hold up. They're damn heavy, and 3 inches taller than the baldies they're replacing.

$1400 CDN right in town.

Pretty ingenious fella. V6 and V8 SBC swapped cubs with hydraulic digger arms.
My grandfather had a Cub he used - plus a bunch of attachments. My aunt has it now.

A mini-ex with an auger would likely be a much easier and versatile option, but I'd definitely hire him with the Cub and transporter over your general run-of-the-mill landscape outfit.

Stumbled on this the other day.

Really cheap method of creating a post hole rig.

For something that he has to use every day you'd think he'd put a real muffler on to make it suck less.

Anybody have any advise regarding 2018 Case TV450 ?

Friend's father is trading one in with 2000 hours.

Good/bad/ugly?

This just caught my eye... I know the older asv's can have some undercarriage issues but not sure I'd ever run into problems keeping it on my sand 5 acres. Doubt it would ever see 1000hrs.

8500 lbs and 105hp..

**** case. My brother has had 2/3 tracked case skidsteers now. I hate them, if they are electric over hydraulic you’ll find out how jerky a skidsteer can be. He seems to chew up undercarriages pretty quickly in them as well.

Not familiar with that model at all but it sounds like a hoss.

It says 3054T which is a real big boy motor not in any CAT skids.

Doesn't look like pilot control, up to you if that's a problem.

They have weird sliding levers sorta built into the front of the armrest area

Assuming to real bank valves or something?

I guess if it's easy to operate a non issue.
New to me, all the ASV I have seen are really similar (exactly) like the CAT machines.
I used to run our old ASV 4810 and the twin sticks sucked. It would be really tiresome after a while. We had a Bobcat 753 and 773 at the time too, so crawling into the ASV was dreaded. We got rid of all three for a Kubota SVL 90-2. Never running an ASV again. **** them sticks!

How did it work other then the sticks? Would it make a good homeowner machine? You sure can't touch any other brand pre emisions tracked machine with 100hrs for 20-25k

Why do you feel the need for tracks? Homeowner and tires work fine for me with less moving parts

I guess it depends on what kind of home property you are maintaining. The ASV was great for some things at our 58 acre strip mine farm property, but it was not ideal for most things around a house... We mainly used it as a brush cutter with a Fecon mulcher head. Our Bobcats literally couldn't even lift the head, let alone have the high flow required. It was almost unstoppable when it came to moving dirt, but forget about fine grading. The entire machine was a blind spot, you basically have tunnel vision sitting in it. And forget about finding parts locally. While we had a local ASV dealer, this machine seemed like a forgotten stepchild. The machine is much more crude compared to the Bobcats we had and its straight up caveman **** compared to our Kubota. The track system will eventually pop a track off and more often than not, its inward. The track system used a seperate mechanical screw jack to tension them and another to collapse the system. IT SUCKED.

Our ASV 4810 was enormous. Compared to our Bobcats, the 4810 weighed 8,640 lbs without an attachment, Bobcat 773 weighed 5,460 lbs, Bobcat 753 weighed 4,730 lbs. The 4810 is ~114.8" without an attachment, Bobcat 773 was ~101.8", Bobcat 753 is ~96.3"!!

Its really apples to oranges. For landscaping work, general light dirt work, running grapples for small/medium branch/log moving, ambushing, etc. my favorite machine I have run was our Bobcat 753. I am biased because I had been running it since 8th grade (mostly for fun and learning) but it was an all around perfect size for homeowner/home builder stuff. The ASV would be the last machine I recommend to anyone, unless I deeply hated them.

That seems insanely cheap for a lot of machine with really low hours. Can't see how you couldn't flip that for $10k more if you decide you don't like it.
