this thread is the weld equivalent of the hot chick that complains about being so fat.

Is definitely shitty. :flipoff2:

Ok fine here's my shitty welds. Boat cracked at the nose. Paid a pro to fix it and it cracked again so I bought an AHP and taught myself how to Tig. My first repair also cracked so I ground it all back out, laid a root pass (with too little heat probably) then ran 2 passes over it, one on each side to tie in. Have had the boat out 10+ times since this last repair and it's holding.

I have an AHP also. Great welder for the money.

I did some uphill welding today. If you look from far away you can see I don’t use any anti spatter for my mig welding.

Uphill. Enough lighting to see where I was welding. I’ll probably go over this with a better looking weld, but since it is the inside of a lower link joint probably no one will see it ever.
It looks, to me who has limited welding experience, to have melted into the base metal, but it also doesn’t look great to me and I’m not talking about that one extra far drag trying to find the corner.

Maybe I’m too hard of a critic.

I try to never weld on boats with soft tops, but this one there was no good way to get it together without tacking the front on on the boat. Fucking welding blanket slid/blew off on the final tach. I felt terrible and offered the job for free but the dude (neighbors friend) was super cool and we’ll work it out.
Not so much a shitty weld but a shitty decision to not completely take the top down.

here lately i have discover the reason for my shitty welds is lack of seeing what i am doing, then i discovered cheater safety glasses. omg game changer. so every shitty weld i have its because i forgot my cheaters. :lmao::lmao::beer::beer:
I have a sneaking suspicion that half of my terrible welds are due to my crappy harbor freight mask, but I'm too cheap to buy something better just in case it's 100% me.

man. I have the ones from the tractor thumb. I don't know if I want to post them.

the root weld turned out ok, but the welds that I tried doing over it were garbage. I'd lay a few beads, and each time I let go of the trigger, the weld would best describe as "worm out". It was outside and windy, so maybe the argon was blowing away? no idea.

they're on my cheapo smartphone at the house.

Buy a jackson or huntsman fixed shade big window and put a #10 gold lens in it.

Less than $100 and is a great backup hood in case your batteries die.

I like my fixed huntsman so much i use it as my primary hood

I have a Jackson, it works great. My welds still suck, but it isnt because of my helmet.

I have a nice fixed lens paper hood i can give you with new lenses. But its probably you, the hf hoods work fine.
yeah, I can't weld for shit. But half the time I feel like I I'm just guessing as to whether or not I'm actually welding the joint or right next to it.

I bought myself a "nice" helmet when I started. I didn't know what I'd ACTUALLY need so I went adjustable. I wanted a larger viewing area too. I just decided it was worth spending money on a nice helmet so I could see what I was doing.

The hf hood is a direct copy if not the same thing as that one. Ive had them both sxs

my helmet kept flickering on and off like a strobe last time I used it.

Were you welding in an awkward spot and the sensor was getting obscured?
I was outside at a few angles and I think the sun kept screwing with it.

I realized that wearing reading glasses under my welding helmet greatly increased the quality of my welds.

Fukkin old age crap....
:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: me too, but get the safety glasses one, and dont walk around the shop after you lift your hood, :lmao::lmao: you will not like the vertigo, or what ever it is...

Sounds about right, by the time you find a position you can both see and the sun isn't triggering the glass you end up blinding yourself because you've managed to hide the sensor :homer:
