That's the nicest thing that anyone has ever said about my welds. Wait a minute I gotta take that back.wrong neighborhood, homie

This is.Lookin good bro
initially it was more along the lines of "get the fuck outta here with that shit, nobody wants to see that trash"That's the nicest thing that anyone has ever said about my welds. Wait a minute I gotta take that back.
Usually recycled carbon steel.Rebar does not weld nice even with a super grind/clean. What is this material??
rerolled railroad railsUsually recycled carbon steel.
this material is junk. but serves its purpose in concrete not fab.....Rebar does not weld nice even with a super grind/clean. What is this material??
There are quite a few different kinds of rebar. Depending on the carbon content, etc, some is weld grade, while others aren't as it is made up of junk. The rail steel kind isn't fancy W grade as far as I know. A roof bolt / rebar plant I used to fix cranes at made both kinds, and made their own billets for the line of good stuff. Other than roof bolts, I'm not sure what the application was for the better rebar.this material is junk. but serves its purpose in concrete not fab.....
This makes sense... it welds like welding brake rotors... absolute trash LOLthis material is junk. but serves its purpose in concrete not fab.....
It's dirty and heavily oxidized. Clean the oxide layer off better.Fuck me. Just couldn't get this part of my boat to wet in right. Giant ass heat sink. Fixing some pin hole leaks in the factory weld on the keel.
Attempt 1, low on gas. Lots of porosity.
Ground out and redone after new tank of argon. Super awkward position and just couldn't get a good angle. Gonna smooth it out with the sander tomorrow.
Need to set your balance for more cleaning actionProbably would have helped. Think I need to turn my frequency down to get a fatter puddle.
leave frequency at 60hzI hate aluminum. I have no idea where to ever set balance freq and all them other fancy knobs. I always do a fusion pass afterwards to wet everything in and make sure that everything is solid.
Nope. It's ground out, stainless brushed and acetoned. Even hit it with the AC cleaning action before puddling. (first pic was on a super low argon tank so think that was causing the dirty look)It's dirty and heavily oxidized. Clean the oxide layer off better.
Acetone followed by stainless steel brush one direction. Hit it until you think it's clean then keep going then wipe with acetone again.
Mild preheat to like 200 helps a lot
It's in the sweet spot on this welder (AHP). I've messed with it a bunch.Need to set your balance for more cleaning action
