What's new

Your shiddy weldz...

Well... That looks like at least I might get somewhere with more practice. no filler on the right 3 joints, filler the rest.

Try the above to get a feel for everything before adding a joint into the mix, maybe a little cut or vee with a cutoff wheel or grinder to keep a straight line and work on filler.

In that last pic is there still mill scale to the right of the last bead? You might not be getting shit as clean as you think you are, try an 1/8 deep 1/4 wide cut with a grinder to make sure it's clean. Those look like they're very porous and contaminated.

Edit: Post a pic of your torch setup, the cup diameter to stickout might be way off and you're not getting much gas to the weld. It's way shorter than you might think without a big cup and/or gas lense to keep the flow in check.

smoke looks like i'm def not getting enough gas (tan smoke like when the mig isnt getting enough flow.)
I'll shorten up my stickout and try to tighten up my arc.
Yes the welds are stupid porous similar to not enough gas.
No on the brake clean. Acetone. but I'm almost outtah that so probably going to have stop for the day soon.

Acetone could still be leaving contaminants. For science I would try just a flap wheel clean with zero acetone.

Take this with a grain of salt because I have never tig welded but it looks like you are almost two steps in front of the puddle.

Like if you were stacking dimes shooting for a 1/8” overlap on the weld… you are more like 3/8 to 1/2” but I have zero clue… that’s just what I noted looking at your multiple pictures

And if all else fails, you could get a job at poison spider building roll cages!

Looks like cold 6011 on ac. I don’t tig much, but I sure don’t know what’s causing a humped up weld like that other than it’s a gas coverage problem? Pure argon with a reasonable flow rate and not too much tungsten stickout should make a nice smooth bead on regular steel especially without any filler. And on dc. Wrong polarity will kill tungsten about instantly. I’ve been running a tig torch off a regular dc Miller thunderbolt welder and the welds do ok. Keep trying.

I recently exchanged an Argon bottle. Got home with the new "argon" bottle and my welds looked like Sceeps (only worse because it was AL). Fuckers filled the bottle with 75/25.
Not much about that doesn't suck. Especially when you just run down, get the bottle filled and go back to welding, only now, it is all fully fucked up and it shouldn't be.

my collet looks jacked and could be leading to a flow issue. Unfortunately, I dont have another. I have a setup for 1/8" that is new i'm going to swap in and see what happens.

less smashy smashy

back cap is like air cleaner nut
it is not holding the engine in there

How did that even happen? Almost looks incompatible with your torch since it shouldn't fit in there like that. Take everything apart and lay it in a nice row so we can see what kind of fuckery you have going on.

Are you "triggering" the foot peddle? As in on, off, on, off...........? Like a string of spot welds?
I was wondering that too since the non filler welds have the tac tac tac look instead of being smooth like they should be.

When first starting out with Tig, I find it helps to avoid filler metal till you can control the puddle better. Just adds to the frustration with nothing to gain.

I was trying everything i could think of to try and get something to fuggin work.
I think I'm on a good path now. Only took 500psi of gold gas, a lb of filler, 2 tungstens and a week to get this far. :lmao::lmao::homer::lmao:

making all the mistakes and fucking everything up is still learning... right? :grinpimp:

Now get yourself some AL to practice on
