What's new

Why is littering so common? Someone help me understand.

Yes, but I'm trying to forget about how little we really knew back then. Remember the first guy on P4x4 that built a low slung crawler? Everybody said it wasn't going to work and that it was a stupid idea.
Oh yea, I remember the lowrider controversy of the early-mid 00's.

I built a stretched early Bronco on full width 44/9 and then new 36" Iroks with basically 2.5" of lift and fenders cut up to the body lines... most of pbb laughed at us low ride height guys "you're gonna high center on EVERYTHING"... nope, we just don't roll over as much.

Tons and 39.5's on anything meant you needed a 12' tall garage door.

IMO the dumps around here charge way too much and maybe that’s part of it. I fill up an 8ft pickup box a few times a year of my own junk and it’s always around 20$ to dump. Then add on fees for used tires, and hazmat is also a PITA to get rid of.
That's exactly what it is. Where I grew up used to be littered with rusting washing machines and fridges in the woods on the sides of the highway and shit because all the dumps charged $20 fees for that shit. Than a scrap yard opened 15yr ago and it changed overnight.

All the dumps used to take boats for a nominal fee to keep people from abandoning or scuttling old hulls. Now they don't anymore and it's pretty common to see boats dumped.

People absolutely will use the easy and convenient option if it doesn't cost them.

With my luck. I'd pick up trash all day and then get lit up and ticketed for "Intent to dump on state land" . Because driving around with that trash is suspicious. :lmao:
Happened to my friend who was bagging trash on the beach.

So now he dumps his trash in the center of town near the police station.

As much as I hate regulations and taxes, I think all counties should have free (i.e., paid by the citizens) dump sites for household waste.
My city does that. If it fits in the bin and the hydraulic arm can lift it it goes in the truck.

Probably keeps literal tons of residential construction debris out of the woods.

The substantially richer city that makes you pay per bag (because the bullet deserving ivory tower types love that shit) and there's trash everywhere.

We used to be a proper country.

I bet they spit on the sidewalk....:lmao::lmao::lmao:

In New Jersey (yeah it sucked)... Cigarette butts at intersections were deep enough to shovel... The little town I live in now is really nice. Grafitti is cleaned up ASAP and littering is taboo.

Gf and I were hauling a refrigerator to the dump outside of Mesquite NV. Nice lady at the weigh station informes us the refrigerator needs to be purge before they will accept it.... I looked over at my GF and tell her "I told you we should just take it to the playground"...:lmao::lmao::lmao:
She looks at me like I am serious...But cracks a smile and tells us to go down yonder where she can't see us and cut the compressor lines. :smokin::smokin::smokin:

But within the past five years; dumping on BLM land has gotten much worse. Local dumps are free or dirt cheep; leaving no excuse to dump. Many shooters leave the some of biggest messes! The dumb shit landscapers that dump olenader clippings on open range land should be shot!

If I see a loaded trailer on BLM land; I will get a plate number (picture) and drop a dime. :flipoff::flipoff::flipoff::flipoff:

I hate refridgerators.

7 of them dumped off a 40 foot cliff and had to winch them back up.
even though they were shot up with holes in the compressor the dump wanted their "hazmat" fee.:shaking:

Boats I get. Cars I don't. There's always some tweaker who'll take your stolen no-title shit and cut it up without asking questions.

Boyfriend reminded me last night of our biggest fight to date, him throwing gum out the window of the vehicle. OMFG I have lost my shit. For some reason there are people that don't think used gum is littering.
Ok. I'm guilty. I just try not to put it where someone will step in it. Apple cores and sometimes banana peels too.

Neighbor spent about 90 minutes in the dump line today…. There has been times that the line is 2+ hours long. Incredibly inefficient since commercial and consumer are all in the same, single line.

And it’s not cheap. $33 for 1100 lbs. told him it ended up costing him $8/hr….

I think the time is as large a deterrent as the cost.

Opposite time-

When i was a kid (up until the mid-late 80's) everything in the rural area where i grew up was a dumping ground. All the backroads that had maybe an old unused driveway, open spot into the woods... literally anywhere you could back a truck in out of direct sight had junk. Not garbage like the McD's sack or coke bottles and beer cans... but actual junk. Old couches, mattresses, TV's, etc. etc. It was fucking everywhere. Funny thing is there was a dump 5 miles up the road that would take a truck bed full of anything for like $1.

Now it doesnt happen anymore. Ever. Anywhere.
It's like that here. Shit dumped on dirt roads, dead end roads, canal banks and the river.

Fuck off liberal. You people always focus on race bullshit.
You remind me of this stupid black woman I worked with.
I once mentioned how I wish I had a time machine to go back to the 50s, because the music was awesome, family values, everyone owned a home, and a million other reasons why it was awesome. Her stupid response, just like you, was focused purely on "but muh black rights!!".

By the way, the average black family back then lived a much better life than they do now.

The sxs "messicans" are the worst offenders of all ohv. I've seen all different walks of life liter in one way or another.

Firm believer in pack it in and pack it out, I'll fully burn paper and other items that won't leave remnants in the camp fire to help with packing it out.
there is one in every group
I see cans fly into the bushes from the jeep bros all the time

police your own and hopefully our kids will have trails to use when they get of age

Sure it looks nice where it was maintained.
Forgot about save the bay? Damn near was to be filled in.

Every home not in town had a can and bottle pit out back. Not much plastic to blow in the wind though. Paper stuffs got burned as did furniture.

Outhouses.
Farmers used their sinkholes to toss all their garbage in, including pesticide and herbicide jugs. That’s a direct line to the water table. If you ever do any trenching around a building that was a bar or restaurant in the late 1800’s or early 1900’s the ground is full of their garbage. Service stations dumped their used fluids on the ground.

Ironic to see you post in this thread when you're the proudest litter bug on this site. How many times have you posted bragging about dumping your trash out the window in any town that gave you a ticket? As if making a mess is somehow "payback" to the cops? Or dumping your used oil down storm drains that went direct to the Charles River?

I've done a shit ton of roadside cleanup and hauling shit out of the woods that assholes dumped in it. I get pretty bitter about someone enjoying trashing a place.

It's payback to the town inhabitants who elect the politicians who tell those police departments what to prioritize. I'm glad it gets under your skin. That's the point.

Fuckin' nOOB!:lmao::lmao::homer::shaking:

In the 80s and 90s the dump was free and you could bring as much of whatever you wanted, cars, fridges, shingles it didn't matter. There was very little trash out in the forest. Along come the 00s and now it's $2 a truck load, still whatever you want just take it to the appropriate place in the dump. Now there's a little trash in the forest. The price goes up over the last 20 years and is now $6 a truck load residential only, there's a sign at the gate listing all the things you can't dump. Now those things are becoming common in the forest.

The thing is that 90% of the stuff on the list of banned stuff is all recycleable and could actually make the dump some $$$ if they did it right but nope we will just send the guys with that stuff to the dump miles away and charge them $90 a ton for that stuff.

Now the forest is full of mini dumps and the powers that be are saying we need to increase the $90 a ton to $120 a ton so they have enough money to clean them up.:shaking:

Stop with facts...they are far too inconvenient for non-thinking progressives. (I repeat myself).
