Why is littering so common? Someone help me understand.

I pick up a 5 gallon bucket of trash every weekend in my neighborhood. Mostly beer cans, hard alcohol containers, legal Marijuana containers, fast food and convenience store food and drink garbage. Some times it is more then a bucket full. Been doing it for about 10 years now.

For a while a south American Family were throwing out a few full garbage bags a week on the side of the road. They still do it up the road at the nearest cross street.
 
Show me a downtown area of any city in the US like this where there is zero garbage.

Zero trash. Not even one piece? It's like Where's Waldo, but you're trying to find the tiniest piece of litter and you can't find it.

It's really not bad. Go to any 3rd world shit hole and you realize how clean the US is.


That's not to say that some people don't need kneecapped. :laughing:


I say instead of the $50 fine, we break their ankles and toss them in a ditch to crawl around and pick up trash. :grinpimp:

I don't know about anyone else but I've never ever seen or even heard of anyone actually getting that fine. Sure it's posted all over but I would have to say it's unenforced to the extent it might as well not exist.

Litter I pick up.

Illegal dumping I have reported to Natural Resources Police, they took it seriously and followed up by at least visiting the address on the open mail in the trash bags. YMMV
 
Our little city is pretty clean since our new Sheriff has been putting the people in jail to work picking it up. Seems win/win to me. The few times I have been in jail, I would have loved to get out in the fresh air (as fresh as it can be with a papermill in town) and pick up trash, and the rest of us benefit from cleaner roads.

And you can find an example of me being uncomfortable and changing the subject thus creating a false version of reality? You need to calm down miss and try and figure out what and who you're responding to. I think it may just be your time of the month and you are a bit agitated and irrational.

drove past a guy with a trailer the other day on the on ramp, looked like he was loading up a tire that fell off his rig.

Nope he was dumping them on the shoulder and they've been there for 4 weeks now. Everytime I see them I'm pissed I didn't pay closer attention as could have got his plate number.
 
Around me it's people letting trash they are taking to "convenience" centers blow out the back of their trucks
 
This thread has me realizing that Colorado doesn't seem to me to have littering issues apparently as bad as other places. Most roads are "adopted" and shoulders cleaned at the least annually too. But yeah carry on!:laughing::flipoff2:
 
The County used to have litter pick up crews around here but it stopped with Covid.

Here is this week's litter from in front of my house. Back when this town was mostly farms there was not much litter, graffiti or homeless people. Now most of the farm land is high density housing or warehouses.

What year and model is the hubcap?

Manitou Springs hit me as trashy as fuck. Maybe they cleaned it up a bit. They damn sure have in Trinidad, they ran all the bums out down by the river and cleaned it up. I hope they stick to the plan
 
I'm in a "dumping" area. I own a few adjoining lots where there are no houses, it's hidden and I've got multiple driveways.

One day I'll catch a fucker and crush their car with a loader. Tons of trash tossed out of car windows. Even shit in a bag. It's going to be a good time and a lesson learned.
