What's new

What did you do for your ford today?

It's time. time for a past due refresh. Short term plan is to pull engine and trans and rebuild both. 351w and ZF5 speed. While those are out repaint under the hood.

Drove it.

Love that truck. Been sitting for 2 months. Key on, wait about 5 seconds for the pump to build pressure, 2 pumps on the pedal, crank it…………and it fires before you can let off the key. Fires up quicker than either of the fuel injected vehicles I’ve got.

Went and picked up some bunk beds, then loaded up a bunch of shit for the dump.

Need to re torque all the bolts for the rear suspension, now that I’ve got 50 or so miles on it after replacing the springs.

Took topper off the OBS for giggles.. Found out that a Access Cover for a SuperDuty (2016 and below) actually fits close enough to call it good. SuperDuty bed tapers about 3/4" per side towards the tailgate compared to the OBS...

Finally got the right crank pulley for my vintage air install on the 78 F150. Measured for belts and ordered them.

Just got valve cover gaskets for the 67 Bronco, will probably put those back on tomorrow and then swap out the power valve with a 8.5 to see if it resolves the stumble at light load cruise.

'round about how much? i'm always blown away by what (decent/good) paint costs.

Paint dually fenders (in primer) and bedsides outside of the aria covered by the fenders… two stage.

$3600 with tax.

Edit: quote from my cousin, who owns a body shop, was $750 wholesale, $1500 retail.

But he’s 1000 miles away and backed up with insurance work.

Do the prep/body work yourself and have maaco shoot it, if you tell them you're gonna wet sand after they will put enough clear on it to make it look decent. My boss does that with all his old cars that he's building to flip, usually works out pretty well.

do you have the space to shoot it where it won't get all windy or make a mess of your garage?

plastic and pvc to make a temporary spray shed is damn near as much as a maaco jobber these days :flipoff2:

Barn is 30x50. Painted a ford 9n in it a few years ago. Turned out okay.

Looking at prep and supplies, I’m estimating $450 gallon of single stage, $225 for decent guns, $100 in sand paper and prep chemicals… and another $250 in plastic and masking.

So ~$1000 to do the box sides and fenders. Plus time to do the prep work, which could turn into many , many hours of ocd prep work

Mulling over the idea of selling the 40” tires that were intended for the 1-ton swap on the 78 F150. Use that money on gears/lockers in the d44/9, run 37’s and actually do some wheeling instead of dreaming.

That leaves the 1-ton axles available to start building the 74 F250 (smog exempt) frame. Since the 78 F150 is otherwise “done” I can enjoy building the F250 at my leisure.

Nah, fuck that. Too expensive to build the 1/2 tons, will lose a lot of money selling the 40’s, getting new wheels and 37’s will cost too much.

I was originally waiting for my buddy to be available so I could work on the swap at his house but I’m going to start preparing next week by pulling the dust shields off the axles, putting new brake rotors, calipers, lines, and hoses on. Then swap spots in the driveway with the Bronco and commit.. will start on the front.

This thing is the shit

Made bleeding the brakes on our '90 super easy. Wish i had bought one sooner. It holds like a half gallon of brake fluid, so you can flush the whole system pretty easily.
nOOB questions:
1) With 25PSI of pressure pushing through the brake lines; does the fluid come out/bleed faster?
2) Can I bleed two corners at a time?
3) How much brake fluid do you put in the container at a time?

I'm going to order it on the 1st.:grinpimp:
