What's new

War Pig Version 12

Yeah, and fall apart 3 weeks later and be a bear to maintain because it's all custom bling.

Thanks.

Well, in for a penny, in for a pound... even though I am not English.

We took that cowl off, you saw the old mouse nests, with urine causing rot. Couldn't leave it, now that I knew it was there. It would have lasted but I knew it wasn't right. I also wanted to shave the vents, since I am going with vintage air.

So we're making new inner and outer cowl panels. There will be no rust, anywhere.

What kinda price are you targetting for the finished product? Or is this a personal build?

I'm too lazy to read the other 8 pages to refresh my memory. :flipoff2:

I like to say “Everything I own is for sale, it’s just that some things aren’t reasonably priced”.
Well, I say everything is FOR sale, but not ON sale.

It would have to be a very strong number to sell this one.

I sold the truck (Big Ugly) I really loved to help when CamaroGenius died.

So this is it's replacement.

Did the SD60 and Rear dana axle come out of the same truck?

From what I've read, the 10 lug F550 axles were all Dana S110s. No outward difference between the S110 and S135. Only differences are the ring gear diameter and axle spline count. Hubs and bearings are the same, with exception of 8 lug and 10 lug, but the 8 lug and 10 lug hubs use the same bearings. S135s supposedly came in F550s up till 04, but my late 04 has a S110 just the same as the 05 parts truck I stole the axles from. There are no tags on the MDT dana axle housing, or other identifiers, you can use to identify the specific gear ratio, locker/LSD option or 110vs135. Only way to see what ratio/carrier it has are the VIN and equipment tags from the donor truck.

Point is, don't base your capacity calculations on how the rear axle looks. It may well be a Dana S110.
So you think I could put S110 10lug hubs and brakes on an S135?

nevermind, found your thread, where I read it a year ago, or so:

I am sure I have an S135, it's completely round (at the housing) - S110's are oval.

I am still noodling the heavier axle pair.

Afaik s135s, s110s and s130s all have the same housing. That's what my research taught me. Only way to tell them apart is the axleshaft spline count and dropout third config. Nothing from the outside, aside from maybe the lug count.

My truck should have had a s135, but it had an 8 lug s110. Now I have a 10 lug s130 by changing the diff, axle shafts and hubs.

S135 is round. They're also available in 10 lug - This one's from an IH Class 5 - Same as the one I have outback, from a 2004 F550.

S110 is oval. They're Ford specific and some sort of bastard.

S130 seems to be a mix of the 110 housing, with bigger guts from the Spicer pile... seems to be Dodge, GM and Ford specific.

Interesting. The references I found back then said that the 04- Ford f550s got dana s135s, but the pictures I've seen are oval. 05-07 was s110 I think, then somewhere in the 08+ run they moved to s130.

The s110 and later f550 s130 are both oval housings. There is a s130 diff and axle shafts in my 04 "s110" that now has 10 lug hubs.

I think there's a lot of confusion around S110/S130 and where they were used.

There's info in the other thread on it.

But there's no oval S135

So, it's the little shit that takes the longest. Self, let's use all off the shelf parts... like a Duramax mechanical cooling fan, radiator and cooling stack.

Fuckers, let's spend 10 hours making a shroud fit the 1985 Chevy frame, the IH nose and the LB7

What’s the perch angle compared to housing too? Curious if that varies

So now I am going back and forth on axles.

I have a 4.33 geared 1t pair in this truck, SRW F350 based e-locked Sterling 10.5 and a normal SD60 with 1550 joints.

I also have axle pairs, with a 'Fat-Boy" 60 and every rear axle offered in a 99 + MDT F truck in 4.88's.

S110
S130
S135
M300

The 2013+ F350 front brakes I installed are about on par with the MDT brakes. The MDT rears are MUCH bigger.

The original C30 chassis, which was a very high GVW cab and chassis truck had a dually D70 in it. I think the Sterling is about par with that axle, big thick wall tubes, etc.

Thing is, with the factory IH step side bed, it won't really see big weight.

I could also use these 1T's in the WC53 AlxJ64 is bringing me this summer.

It's not like you're gonna hook this truck to a mobile home and send it because you have other toys that are better at those kinds of jobs. In lieu of that you may as well choose one of the lighter options.

^Agreed. If this was Tow Pig V.12 I could see maybe using that S150 you have with SD60 and have adapters made to go to the big medium duty IH 8 lug pattern or maybe re tube a D135 with the SD60 outers up front 😂. But for a play toy pickup build the current axle setup allows for off the shelf wheels and easier to find off the shelf parts which I always like to have.

I thought about making a Dana Spicer M300 front axle...:flipoff2:

and, since I opted for a plush interior, we cut out the rust causing vents. Leaves get trapped in here and cause it to go shitty.

So no cowl vent and no fresh air intakes through the cowl. This is probably one of the cleaner ones we've seen, but still cutting to clean metal. It will all be treated with sound deadener and correct sealing systems so no more rot for another 54 years or more.

Oh and the hood hinges fit this and put the hood right to the cowl, without .5" lug nuts as spacers...

Looking though those pics, I saw the wheel. Had to scroll back a couple pages to see them better. I like.

How do you clear a Duramax cooling stack, Ford spring and shock towers in an IH fender?

You use Chevy "square body" inners.

More crap, kicking around.
