What's new

Used car market changes

You are missing the point. If the govt decides 3/4 and 1 ton trucks need to be electric, you won't have an option. It will be a new electric or something old which will increase the price. Exactly what GatorGrizz was worried about.
I will choose to keep my 01 Ram.

If it gets to that point, wonder if we'll see conversion shops swapping in LS and diesels into them. Like the old school 2x4 to 4x4 conversion kits.

Zero chance that will be allowed.

I'd love to keep rocking my 05 Dad-wagon, but its rotting out from under me. another few years, there won't be anything to mount the replacement parts to.

How does this work? my 09 has a chipped key, i had a key made without the chip and it won't start the truck. Is there a way to disable the chip reader?

No chip key just means no fuel pump power, at least on the older junk I mess with. Still cranks, sparks, unlocks the steering and shifter. It's not hard to make a fuel pump work.

Won't do anything unless I hold the chipped key right up against the key w/o the chip

I'd buy an electric truck if it was a battery, motor, and speed controller in a utility based configuration. I don't want any of the integrated and mandated junk that comes with a modern vehicle.
I’ve half heartedly been kicking around the idea of electrifying my wrx when the motor goes. I need 70 mile range and 400hp. I feel like that should be possible.

for a daily driver that would be a blast.

Exactly. 200mi range with 100mi of that being loaded and forklift simple electronics and I'd be happy as fuck. It would cover 364/365 of my daily uses and I can cover the rest with other vehicles.

Can't track, and remotely control/shut down a basic forklift, or add subscription services.

bonus points if you can drop a welder-gen in the bed and feed the DC bus of the inverter directly

just gotta fuck with the regulator on the welder to get it to produce whatever voltage you're looking for, most got 600v diodes in them

scam-a-rama

this video is on point. bloomberg or another financial mag put that info out last year. I'm told that adesa sales have plummeted, dealers are not going. gm pulled out and I heard toyota did too.(those oems ran their program cars thru adesa solely).

and for a reason to not like them, well its pretty obvious why I wouldnt. I get it that people like the "convenience" of the car buying experience, but that is all you get. there is no post sale support of any kind. record numbers of complaints to state dor about follow through of required titling docs, incorrect titling docs, no title at all, etc. nevermind what they have done to the price of used cars,

and finally, as a small dealer that is directly affected by them, I do hope they fail. (and it sounds like that is imminent). I dislike them enough that I will not work on a car bought there. It may be a bad business decision, but i don't care. you bought a car from a dealer that cannot/will not work on it, good luck. same goes for electric, I won't fix a tire on a tesla. good luck to ya.

I'm not participating in anything I don't believe in or agree with. thanks fauci.

Are you playing 20 questions when a customer shows up?

How do people watch that guy? I have heard heard someone more uneducated about almost every subject.
Hes apparantly a well known lawyer.

Seems to be a lawyer thing - they will never give absolutes and seem to shun learning any amount of details

He is a well known Michigan lawyer so naturally he's into a lot of vehicle related law issues.

Have you thought about building one?

Yes, I've been considering it for one of my upcoming projects. I've got a cool design concept in my head. As the drive components become more common it should keep becoming an easier task.

I'm thinking a cabover flatbed, all stainless construction, 5k lbs carry capacity. I really only need to hit 100 mile range to do 95% of my stuff.

The car I just bought is more electronic and complicated than I would like, but everything is getting that way. I am starting to think it may be the last ICE vehicle I will be able to buy if the government gets its way. I would just keep buying old cars and fixing them, but with a wife and kids I need something new (ish) and reliable for them.

I think we will see a turnaround on their stance. It is a well known fact that battery technology is not there yet, it will be eventually.
Power grid is a no go on national scale, sure some might have a solar array, what about all the apartment dwellers and such...

Likely to backpedal and switch to mass transit hybrid power (not full electric).

We will see numerous ways towards making ICE vehicles unaffordable to use/maintain/repair for individual use. High cost of fuel, insurance, restrictions on miles driven, depreciating the values to scrap, and who knows what other options are discussed.

Lets enjoy what we have, while we can. Too many unknowns as to what is coming, and when...

take your chipped key and duct tape it near but hidden at the top of the column your other key should work now

We should have had diesel hybrids already.

The F150 hybrid can't even use the battery when in tow haul.

He is the guy who literally wrote the book on dealing in lemon law. Actually he has written several books and been on a bunch of car things. I'm guessing he is a lot smarter than those clowns are.
