The Snowmobile Thread

Let the boy drive today for a while. He did good. Probably find a 500cc for him next year. Daughter went for the longest ride she’s ever done and didn’t complain once.

Went out 2 weeks ago. Smacked a rock on the wife's sled.

Got fairly lucky. Also I realize how large the rock is. I mixed up the bumps in the snow and lost it in the sun to shadow transition

learn the electronics?
New dash. This thing does a lot more than I’m used to. It has a heated phone compartment and cord for syncing to the BRP app and then shows the trails on the dash. It also has the adjustable shocks and the controls are all different for them also.

Fuckers :flipoff2:

Fired up my rmk that ran perfect when parked. Had a horrible misfire at 7200+. Pull the plugs and find one of the plug connectors fried :homer:

I've been waiting 3 weeks on a new set of plug wires because why the fuck would anyone ever keep them in stock :frown:

And to make it even worse they'll be delivered tomorrow, but I'll be in Vegas all weekend.

Do any of you know if the Wisconsin snowmobile safety class reciprocates to Michigan? I’m taking my 14yo daughter to the UP in February and need to know if she needs another course to be legal. She just took the in-person Wisconsin course.

I went up to a dealership a couple days ago half intending to buy a new sled but just couldn't pull the trigger. I don't feel like I know enough about sleds to make the right choice coupled with working way too many hours and not enough time off work to enjoy it. A 550 Voyager 155 had my eye.

I'll probably end up riding at least some trails but basically want a sled for ice fishing. Pull an ice chanty, not worried about going fast, don't want to worry about overheating, don't want to have to buy premium gas, want new or newer for hopeful reliability.

Buy used. Should be plenty of sleds for $2500 that are new enough to be reliable. Getting a brand new sled, when you don't know enough or know if your really into it probably isn't the best idea.

If you can wait, there will most likely be some deals this spring. Dealers are getting caught up on orders and sales are slowing. Used prices locally are starting to track back to normal, or at least reasonable.

Great for what you want to do with it.

Any old 550 fanner will do what you need.

Longer and deeper tracks will give more traction, but if you're primarily on ice I'd do a 1.5" paddle with studs.

You should buy this from me.

A springer with reverse? Please tell me you're far from Montana so I don't buy another garage ornament
I'm in CO. But I might be willing to meet you in WY. It has hi low and reverse plus electric start. The picture is the real nice one. I have another 87 with a 440 motor from a Phazer to put in it. The seat will need redone. And a 92 with the pogo stick front end for parts. All Yamaha did was take the leaf spring bulkhead and weld the pogos on,everything else is the same. They even just took the hood and cut it out and made some blister covers to rivet on.
2500$ for all three.

I don't have space for 1, let alone 3.

It's a far enough drive I can resist

Getting everything rounded up to toss in the trailer tomorrow night. We’re heading to the UP Saturday morning and coming back Tuesday. I’m going with a group of 20-25 guys that my daughters boyfriend goes up there with every year in January. Him and his friends are all in the 25-35 age range. When he asked me to go I said I’m not in any kind of shape to hang all day with young guys, he said don’t worry, there’s some older guys like you that hang back and show up at the next bar as we’re leaving that one to go to the next one. Works for me.

Our family trip is in 2 1/2 weeks so this will be a good shakedown run for the new sled before that one.

No snow whatsoever where I'm at in NY. I don't trailer so I'll be lucky to get one or two rides in February unless this abysmal weather continues.

Up trails are super highways. They are all logging roads big enough for semis to travel on. No water or lake crossings . Not my kind of snowmobiling. I like the twisty’s in bfe wi:flipoff2:

The trails up by Cable/Hayward where we usually go are fun. Twistys through the forests and then a lake crossing where you can pin it and blow out the cobwebs.

Never understood the appeal of that. Every week up here this time of year there is another quick news mention of some dude from WI, IL, OH, IA, MN, or downstate MI who has barhopped all day and then liquefied themselves through a stand of maple trees.
Bikes and sleds are the two things I don't feel compelled to drink and drive.
