Shopping for a .45 1911

After I got out of the Army I never really thought about owning a 1911. Then one day I wandered into a local gun shop and saw a pistol that could have been issued to me at some point during my time in service. It had to come home with me.
(I was getting out when the Berettas were coming in)

I have thought about getting a newer model to keep this one company :usa:

That brings back memories. When you shake it does it sound like a GI 45?

I know exactly what you’re talking about 🫣

This one is pretty solid. When I researched the serial number, it looks like it went to a Army Air Corps unit in early ’44. Who knows where it went from there. It’s safe in my safe now 😋

And to have enough lead to get it done:flipoff2:
The new +p 9 mm nowadays has the sameish punch.
But it's still a metric 38 and allways will be :smokin:

On further thought, having a second barrel for 9x23 would be a good compromise

Springfield makes several CA compliant 1911s and they shoot well. The only real difference in the models is the "ILS" lock they have, but with a couple bucks you can replace the mainspring housing and get rid of the nanny crap. The SA guns are built pretty well but they are a mass production level gun. My most recent SA 1911 was nice out of the box but I spent $400 on a barrel and bushing and had them fit, some trigger work done and some reliability work done on mine and it's even a better shooter. I've been competing with it for many years.

a good canadian one too, none of that LDA shit

ETA: old p13s are the only ones I'll forgive for having a 4.25" barrel

Looked at a Springfield 1911 A-1, leaning that way. Gotta rent one next week. They had a near-new rental for sale for $775 but that’s only $120 off. Not many are CA compliant.

I forget the specifics from them.
Best guess, being a Double stack, so like 3/8 Ish?

this is a heads up for little guys..
You better have big hands to fit the width of the grip.
A friend of mine when I was stationed in Panama had a Sig something double stacked 9mm. I’m not a little guy, but that gun felt big in the grip. I definitely need to go fondle a few of the double stack guns.

Some Mfg.s are offering grip inserts to tailor your weapons grip.
The Para was fat.
The new stuff? I Dunno?

Fwiw.
