Shop Truck turned Race Truck SORC Tech in Shit-shat

Damn,

Where the slugs Hypereutectic? Any Logs?

Put it back together with a seasoned block.

Well damn. Looks expensive or a reason to upgrade.
there is a ls3 at the machine shop in manhattan(billy grahams place) that is "un-paid" and is for sale. I just dont think I can justify 4500 bucks for a long block. Plus is my blower ruined too......then I need an intake and everything else to put it back together. I do have another lq4 pullout sitting here. had low oil pressure. probably center cam bearing like so many of them. I can put it back together a lot cheaper and scab my blower back together. this kind of sucks.

no data log. can tell you I was deep in 3rd at 7k and the rev limiter was popping. its very likely my fault, that doesnt help matters. Im not sure on what the pistons were. the machine shop sourced them.

You need a BBC with a couple turbos!
Or just grab a junkyard 4.8 & see how long it last as-is beating on it like it owe you everything.

Knowing my own luck, resist and half-ass on a build but it turn out last WAY longer than it will if I did the build “correctly” :homer:

xr-nut sorry to hear about the engine failure! I hope that won’t keep you from the track too long.

thanks TT. I have another lq4 here, fresh from cam failure. I think I'll toss it together as cheap as possible. hopefully my blower is salvageable. put the same cam in it and wont need another dyno run to tune it.

the rod is intact, that hole in the block is part of the piston. the rest of it is oatmeal sized pieces every where in the engine and blower.

donor block is sitting here and we're ordering rings and bearings today. my cam is good, lifters too. kid had a set of head bolts.

Donor block getting torn down. crank looks great. clean it up, hone it some, toss new pistons on rods and all new bearings and rings. blower back from socal, super chargers online. they put new rotors in it, new bearings and oil, new isolator and somehow cleaned up the rotor housing. not cheap but better than tossing all that initial investment.

When is your next event? The Silver State Classic is the middle of May.

Heads back from machine shop. Had the short block put together, all but one hole. Stripped thread on rod cap. So I need another rod. Decided to put forged pistons in it, maybe help prevent this from happening again. so now we'll tear it back apart and do it again.

Well the shitbox is back together and making lots of oil psi's! Seriously, like 70 psi cold and 60 going down the highway. So it must be fairly tight. To be honest I was a little worried about me putting the short block together and it being ok. Really the jury is still out, but I did drive it to the auction on monday, which is 140 miles round trip. it is back home in the shed for now.

Bottom end is summit brand forged rods and summit brand forged pistons. stock lq4 crank. I honed the block and fit the rings. The rings are summit brand and what they recommend for the forged pistons and boost. I set them to .024 top and .026 middle, from the summit chart. (bore X .006) up to 10 psi of boost, then they get a little looser. Im still at 6.5 psi.

The other good news is I made it in to the race! Becky called on monday and said there are cancellations and I can race if I want to. Hell yes! so its on in august, if I can keep it alive until then. if not Ill buy a vette to take this year.

Heading out Wednesday morning at 0500. Hope to make Arnold by ten. Straight of the trailer to tech then registration. Them we have to drive the loup to loup course twice before 6pm. Then it's raceday on Thursday!

If you've been following along on the drive shaft saga, put the stock shaft back in and we're going to run the 80 class on l2l and 90 on sorc. It's slower than id like but not by much and this drive shaft will be fine. I told my son we need to focus on doing as good as possible on timing. Maybe we'll place!

Pre run today. Allegedly on a closed course.

Gifts for our hosts. The cross and the clock with Roman numerals on left over flooring that the hosts Father in law asked me to do something with for him.. So I did. My first go with epoxy, it's ok. The two boards are 2" thick maple, the large one is 24"x 18". Big and thick. The other clock is some local pine tree left overs I had. Neat wood, wife had the 3 cutting board hanging idea she'd found. Came down to the last minute, I was waiting on the wooden hands until today.

Made it out here just fine. 5 hours in the ol Cummins tow pig. I'm driving both North bound legs and my son is driving both south bound legs. Tech was more thorough this year. Didn't like my top post battery so we put a cut piece of pool noodle on to of it. But we are in!
