Shop Truck turned Race Truck SORC Tech in Shit-shat

It wouldn’t take much to be in the 90 or 110 class. I’m pretty sure the tech speed is 120 for those classes. An LS with bolt ons would get it done.
tech speed for 100 mph class is 140mph.

to me there was a huge difference driving at 130mph on that road(last year entered in 100) vs driving at 110 on that road. ie- on the first long stretch to get your average up to 100 you need to drive a lot faster than you would at 90. Im sure someone will come along and do the math for me, but what Im talking about is the feeling. the road is shit. absolute shit. 110 feels sketchy as fuck. I cant imagine driving it at 150 in the 125 class.

we were cruising at 135 last year when the blower pulley came off. that is about as much as I would have liked. 110 feels a lot safer. plus you get up in that 100+ class and the cage/belt requirements change.

I think a 6 liter with a cam( i had 400whp NA) is plenty.

The challenge at SORC compared to Big Bend or the Nevada races is how bad the road is. Just a county farm to market road with barely two lanes.

If anyone is considering SORC
  • prepare your entry early, read entry requirements more than once
  • volunteer to guarantee an entry for the following year
  • the speed is not the challenge, the accuracy to the target speed is. Choose your class accordingly, most all are tech’d to 140
  • exceeding your tech speed will see you DQd and not allowed to run the next leg.
  • L2L is more of a driving challenge so stepping down 10 or 20 mph is still a challenge
  • scratch the go fast bug by entering the mile drag
  • scratch the road racing big and detour via Hastings
  • jean shorts, new balance mandatory if driving a Vette, gold chains optional

First years we ran, there was still an unlimited class. Mostly ex NASCAR vehicles. I think insurance requirements eventually killed that class

they have a 125 class with 150 tech now. I cannot imagine that. of course i drive an old junk truck, im sure a new(er) vette or other performance car would be better. they had 5 or 6 miles right south of the "Y" repaved this year. I heard the plan was to have it all done for next year. fingers crossed. it literally rattles everything apart on my old truck.

this years 125 carnage. i cropped out the people and the car number.
