Rubicon and Pro Touring Cali

Got a ABNB booked in Oakhurst for the Yosemite run. Still looking for a place to stay for Seqouia. Sluggy suggested driving thru Death Valley at night?…. Can’t remember. So either stay close to Seqouia or running thru Death Valley and finding somewhere to stay after that route. Looking for suggestions.

Still looking for suggestions here. I’m thinking hit the road early July 24 from Yosemite to Seqouia 6 AM (3 hour drive) quick pictures with the big trees (1-2 hours) then grab lunch some local spot (suggestion?) then make our way to our next destination and en route home. Really looking for suggestions here, as we plan to drive thru the evening/ night to avoid some of the hotter temps in the Desert Valley area. Worst case push the day back a few hours in Seqouia then hit the road from Seqouia to Flagstaff (9 hour drive)

:homer:

Kinda lost on this part.

Personally I would skip Sequoia and spend more time in Yosemite. Sequoia is ok...but not worth that extra drive IMO.
Really just looking to get the kids exposed to it. Plus I’ve always wanted to see the big trees. For the gram and all, ya know. :flipoff2:

Took some time to google and look at routes. Looks like we have it figured out. Leave seqouia to Barstow, then hit the road to Flagstaff in the late afternoon. I want to be in Houston by Friday evening.

I'll suggest NOT staying in Barstow, it's a complete toilet. :barf::barf::barf::barf:
The Giant forest in Seqouia is definitely worth seeing.

If you must past through and get a room the south west corner by the mall has a couple nice $150ish hotels. There is 0 to do though other then stay in the hotel or go people watch at barstow walmart

Barstow would just be a stopping point to rest for an hour or so. If there’s another suggestion then I’ll gladly take it.

also theres the tehachapi train loop if your into that, theres somewhere else around tehachapi thats big for train people

We've stayed at 1 of the hotels at the exit SW of Barstow for a night while passing thru. Definitely seems like the fresher/newer stuff in comparison. Not any worse than anywhere across the CA desert.

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Barstow and didn't get sex trafficked or robbed.
Newer outlets and basic chain restaurants.
Had a pool and breakfast buffet.

I've never had any issues in Barstow other than witnessing the grossest subway sandwich I've ever seen created by a huge lady two people in front of me in line. It was basically a mayonnaise sandwich with a small slice of ham added as a garnish.

is there a ohv sticker or something we need to get for non street legal vehicles on fordyce and rubicon?

It's the prk,

Green sticker and red sticker, are a form of registration slush funding by Sacramento for us "poor dumb Bastards" who live here.
However if you are from outta state, I dunno for sure, but your states current paperwork should suffice

Someone else will know.

If you have a plated vehicle, no need for anything special. It only applies to buggies, sxs,dB and quads

i have a buggy, no plates. It will be on trails only obviously, no public roads.

Day 2: July 13 - Roswell-8->Williams AZ - 1 > (GC) - See GC for 1-2 hours (hotel)

Not saying no, but thats gonna be hard pressed. You are talking 3 hours drive time, min, round trip Williams ---> Grand Canyon Village ---> Williams, after an 8 hour drive from Roswell, and traversing all of NM?

Not saying it’s gonna be easy but fuck it. :flipoff2:

Your input has been taken into account with the group. We are going to play it by ear. If we are too tired for it then we will run GC the following morning otw to Vegas. But I think doing it all in a day is doable. Since we only plan to see the GC for an hour or so.

Edit: we also are planning to hit the road to San Angelo on the Thursday drive up. So that Friday we shorten our drive to Roswell and won’t be as beat to dog shit from a straight 13 hour drive on Friday.

The trip and stops have been finalized. Going to wing it a few times but the overall trip planning is done. Hope to see some of you fawkers out that way.

Also still looking for a place to store hard tops and doors near the SLT area if anyone has a way to help us out. I contacted a storage place in the area, they have 10x10s available for $150 for the month, I just hope if it comes to that, that they will actually have a unit available when we’re there.

Try calling freshpond trading post, we stored towpigs there often. I'm not sure they have a locked storage tho.
Alternatively, try campgrounds/trailerparks as a Longshot you may find one with secure storage for tennants.
Also ice house store.

How about renting a u haul and parking it in a secure lot at a casino while your on the trail?
Or see if Camp Richardson will let you rent a spot in their boat yard?

Sorry my buddies didn't work out. He's not sure if he'll even be living there this summer.

I believe the plan is to run from Loon to Tahoe than head to Deer Valley/Slick Rock.
Trying to avoid driving all the way back to Ice House versus popping up to Deer Valley from Tahoe.

I disagree. The groves in Yosemite are tiny, in size and quantity compared to Seguoia. Also, the hike to the top of Moro Rock is short to get an amazing view for miles.

The flows might be weird for a while. A 56” downpipe at Spaulding Dam is broken and PGE working on it 24/7. Best case is fixed 6/15 ish. All Bear River water is being sent down the S Yuba right now. Don’t know how low they will need to keep Spaulding for repairs and how the release at Fordyce will be affected yet.

Battle of the vistas:flipoff2:
How does one get info on fordyce dam progress?
Fof is not much help...
