Rubicon and Pro Touring Cali

The shitter at Ellis Creek is one of the nicest shitters I've seen in the woods.
We called it the Starbucks when they first put it in.
Also if it wasn't for the outhouses the trail would be even more over run by white flowers.

Staying here:
755 Bigler Circle, 4
Stateline, NV 89449
I literally lived 200 yards from there before those places were built.

make sure you drive all the way around the lake once
go to Emerald bay and the north shore.

been a while (decades) but I think the road to Genoa peak is still open in the summer.
easy trail along the ridge area.
starts at the end of North Bejamin (you will be off of South Benjamin) and goes all the way through to Spooner summit.
(your staying at the red X, trail starts a mile north)

We did book a hotel in Williams. I will get with you for dinner. We talked about doing the G. brewery if you other suggestions as well. We should have time to kill.

Great stuff. Thanks. I need to look at a map.

Which hotel did you pick? I may have a better suggestion. :grinpimp:

Lee vinning lodge on 395 was decent and clean, we used to ride up there for 3 nights as a base camp on the bikes., been some time so who knows today.
Also the ww2 museum on 160, gunna be outta yer way tho.

I’ve never taken my porta shitter to Rubicon. The outhouses are everywhere.
This is correct. No need to take your own. The RTF has done an awesome job coordinating the bathroom situation on the 'Con.

The best shitter on the Rubicon bar none is Arnold's rock. The best time is to go early in the morning so you can enjoy the magnificent view of the sunrise and simultaneously avoiding an indecent exposure charge for shitting with the door open.

Genoa Peak should still be gtg, did it maybe 3 years back. Great view of the lake without hours of hiking or an expensive lift ticket

Also, on the Tahoe side just a little after the staging lot outside Tahoma, 14N34A is real quick and easy with a great view.

Barrett Lake Trail is near the rubicon. In/ out but nice scenery.

If your parking stuff at tahoe and going to drive around to loon to start the rubicon... leave early morning, hit barret lake trail in and out... 5hrs casually, and then over to loon to either camp out or start the trail. If you camp out at loon lake then spend a night at buck Island and a night at the springs. From the springs its an easy morning run up and back to southlake.

Oakhurst has some decent ABNB's for reasonable. Go to Southgate brewery when you are there. We usually hit Yosemite in the winter(going mid Feb) to avoid the crowds.

Make you're reservations now if you are not staying in the park(you don't need a reservation if staying in the park). Options are Yosemite Lodge, Ahwahnee, Yosemite West, and campgrounds. maybe one or two others I'm forgetting. It can take HOURs to get to the valley floor during the summer from outside the park.

Hike the Valley loop trail and see all the normal amazing sights. Yosemite Falls, El Capitan, Half Dome, Bridal Veil, Sentinel Rocks etc. If you have time and are OK with the altitude hike up to Nevada and Vernal falls. As someone else said, head up to Tuolumne Meadows, check out the colored springs and the wildflowers should be around, unless there's still snow like this year:laughing:

Sequoia is not nearly as crowded, but you may be limited on what you can see. Much of the park is still closed from the storms last year. We were there in July and the Kings Highway was still closed with no opening in sight. The south end of Sequoia was still closed as well. You could still get to The Giant Forest and see the Sherman tree, hike up to the top of Moro Rock and look out to Mt Whitney. Pretty spectacular if you've never seen real mountains and GIANT trees.

I'll add more in another post when I think if it. We hit Yosemite and Sequoia a couple times a year each.

A few of us from Houston area are doing Rubicon/Fordyce July 21 to 27 timeframe as well. Following for tips and places to see.
All you outta state fukks need to combine dates' already:homer::laughing:

back 2 back weekends last 2 years runnin:flipoff2:

Us local tour guides love showing off the trails but dangit all.

Vegas is going to be dumb hot. When coming up from Laughlin jump onto Christmas tree pass, it's a scenic dirt road bypassing some pavement with a bunch of decorated Joshua trees.

There's an awesome hot spring outside Hawthorne my google foo is not having any luck finding. It's been 10+ years since I've been to it so it may no longer be accessible, it was on or right next to the Hilton ranch which looks like it was bought up by a conservation group.

Haha I have a pic somewhere of that exact one, we camped right there a couple years ago.

It literally is the nicest shitter in all of the Sierras that I know of.

No kidding, dang! That’s lame, the best part of the park. Been a long while since I went there, was the road washed out? Or just a lot of trees on it?

I found that hot spring a couple years ago, It was pretty sweet but there were some bitey critters running around the surface. Took us a whole day to figure out where it was, good luck!

No worries.
I was joking.

I had several other people from outta state talking about doing the i. b.b. ultimate Trail Adventure last year.
It's awful hard to synchronize schedule between multiple people in 2-3 states.

Eta
I'm gunna be doing it again this year for those who are interested.

As of July when we were there for Sequoia. Mineral Springs road was washed out in multiple places. The road into the park from Three Rivers was one lane with traffic lights, the Kings Highway 180, I think is called was closed due to storm damage.

Not sure how much has been repaired, but they were more focused on the more popular parks that got slammed tha Sequoia/Kings.

Funny story, when we were there we came in from the Kings side and stayed in the park. As we were driving to the giant forrest, we drove past a burnt out SUV. Odd I thought. As we got to the parking area for the giant forest, the park service turned us around, parking closed. We drove back out to the Pinewood Parking area and hiked down. After hiking a few of the smaller trails we hit a trail down into the giant forest. About halfway down, we were yelled at by a ranger saying "turn around, there's an armed and dangerous person in the giant forest." I ignored them and we kept hiking. They got pissed and repeated themselves. I essentially said "so what, maybe I'm armed and dangerous" they did not take kindly and my wife placated them and ushered me off before they threatened to arrest me.:shaking:

Pick a week with no competing holidays and do it that week every year. People won't be able to make it the first year but being a "known week" means they can plan around it the next

I’m working on a tour-type trip with some friends as well. Not sure on the dates yet

Another good post from Arse……

Did the universal fabric finally fold?????

Can we toss a little Fordyce talk in here as well? Since we're coming from Texas we'd like to hit it while we're out there. Looks like late July should be ok with typical flow rates to cross the rivers (~175ish)? whats the maximum flow rate for safe crossings? And no bathrooms on it like the rubicon, correct?

Correct no bathrooms at Fordyce

And then everyone has different flow rates that they feel is safe, kinda depends on the rig and the driver

I'm a full bodied 86 4runner on 37s and 200cfs is comfortable for me, if it's predicting 300cfs me and my buddies typically don't go, but we're pretty timid on water crossings

I've seen people go thru at 400cfs no problem tho
